Summary: Great planes, iffy game
Review: The flight models are superb, the graphics are quite good, the campaigns are boring, and the capabilities are too limited. It's a fine piece of software for what it is, but European Air War is a lot more fun, and has more of an "authentic" feel -- AND you can have more than ten planes in the sky at the same time, which is How It Really Was Back Then.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Great Fun, Little Realism.
Review: Although the Dog-Fights are really fun, it tends to get a little boring when you've beaten the game 10 times on maximum difficulty. The single missions keep it alive, but have the same overall flaw. Quick combat tends to be the same way because there is no randomness. 1-9 planes will come at you and as soon as you kill all of those, 1-9 more will come at you again. Also, although the planes look like they have there own shape, they are really blocks to the computer, which means you may hit things which you really didn't. However for a game created in 1997 it's pretty good.

P.S. it is really cool when you see a plane go down in a fire ball.

Summary: Not for everyone. But very fun in it's own way.
Review: I remember back in the days of "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" when I just couldn't shoot anything down. Controls were atrocious and the planes handled like a flying elephant. Of course compared to Microsoft Flight Combat Simulator, those old 386 games handled like hummingbirds and I think that is the whole point. If you want precision target shooting then this game may not be for you. However, anyone who has actually flown can tell you it's not a video game. There is no parallel parking and the laws of physics do prevail. For every action there is a reaction and being able to power turn after gaining speed from a short dive surprises many who scratch their heads wondering how did the plane get so slow and sluggish after an Immelmann. Granted it's harder to rack up the 100+ kills found in many other games. But remember, it was even harder for the real guys who tried to do this so it's not THAT realistic. Just enjoy the scenery and have a little fun learning a new way to play a game.

Summary: Right on target, Tally-ho!
Review: I found the flight physics to be right on line. The whole atmosphere is very compelling. And the graphics are outstanding. I ran this sim on my PII 266mhz, 64mb ram, STB Velocity 8mb 2d/3d card and no matter how many planes were out there it ran really well. I did have a few quick pauses because I'm running it at 1024 x 768 res. This sim out shines EAW by a long shoot.

Summary: THIS SIMULATOR IS NOT ONLY PLAYABLE, BUT VERY REALISTIC!
Review: After piloting each aircraft in Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator, I came to the conclusion that you can't get any closer to the real thing than this! Being a World War II history buff, I have seen a lot of dog-fighting documentary films actually taken by the pilots in action! This simulator recreates this action with a realism that can't be compared to anything else. Just make sure that you have a good 3-D Graphics video card in your computer. WAY TO GO MICROSOFT! GREAT SIMULATOR!

Summary: Not very playable
Review: Most of what is said in the review is correct, but what's the point of fantastic realism and graphics if the experience of playing is boring? The flying experience is slow (you'd think you were piloting a lead brick no matter what plane you choose) and the game slows down considerably when in a large dogfight. All the realism in the world won't make up for this. If you're experienced with the Red Baron games by Dynamix, pass on this one, Red Baron leaves it in the dust.

Summary: I like it better than my old negative post!
Review: I've actually given it another chance and have gotten hooked on it. The post I wrote to it at the bottom was before I tried it with a joystick. Its much better that way obviously. I had gotten a new PC and my stick wouldn't plug into it. I had to get a USB jack before I could use it. I actually like the game alot now. I really like being able to fly for the USAF, RAF or Luftwaffe. The training missions are good if you're new to flight sims but otherwise don't waste your time. The instructor is very annoying. Overall this is a very good flight sim. I apologize for the misleading review I gave.

Summary: Kind of Fun
Review: Combat Flight Simulator is fun but not very realistic and it has really bad grafics. Somethimes when your playing the game a enemy shoots your plane and then theres bullet holes in the cockpit window and you survive. If that really happened the pilot would be dead. Also the planes dont try to move away from you when you shooting them so it is really easy to shoot down planes. I shot down 72 planes once. Combat Flight Simulator is not alot of money to buy so it kind of worth getting if you like WW2 combat flying game. Combat Flight Simulator 2 and 3 are a lot more fun and realistic.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: I have been playin flight sims since I was about six years old. I have played many that I didn't like at first, but after time I liked them. This, however is not one of them. The controls are terrible. The training missions have some jerk instructor yelling at you whenever you don't do something right. I wish I would have known this was going to be such a frustrating and impossible game. Aces over Europe was much better.
