Summary: Very disappointing!
Review: I was really looking forward to playing this game, but after I installed it and got into it I realized that my machine (PII-400) was much to slow to handle this game. The graphics looked terrible for some reason, there seemed to be problems galore. So many aspects didn't work. Even after I installed the recently released patch there still were numerous flaws. I'm really surprised that this game even got released in its state. I hope they continue to work on releasing new patches, otherwise, I wouldn't recommend buying this just yet.

Summary: Use the Update Patch!
Review: I was the second reviewer of this game to post on Amazon. I was not impressed. I am now! Great work has been done by the "BoB Development Group"[] Their updates have transformed the game for me (including the latest .90 version). Forget Rowan's tech support All the help in the world is there, quick and friendly.

It doesn't tolerate marginal graphics systems. If in doubt, go to the message board and ask if yours will work.

This is my third posting for this game. Buy it, update it, and enjoy an excellent WWII flight sim!

Summary: This is worth less than a dollar. Do not buy it. Return it.
Review: I will not say much about this game, but here are a few words:

1 - No command reference card for a flight simulator? It is almost as if the publishers never played one.

2 - It will perform poorly on your machine, if it starts at all, even if your machine far surpasses the recommended specs.

3 - Graphics are jittery and controls are way too sensible even if you try different joystick settings, or different joysticks. I tried both analog and digital joystics, and 2 different game pads, and all perform terribly.

4 - Do not buy it. Wait until the publisher puts out a serious fix patch and wait for feedback.

You will be better off spending $... at the local Wal-Mart and buying Jane's WW2 Fighters, which is far superior to anything on the market today, and that game was released on 1998.

If you really want to spend some money on a flight simulator and do not mind being somewhat disappointed, buy B-17 II, at least it will provide some entertainment value. If you want something decent, get Crimson Skies, CFS1, CFS2, or any of the semi-free on-line simulators.

I cannot believe I bought BoB. I thought I would have had as much fun as I had with Lucas Arts 1990's "Their Finest Hour" or "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe". I think even the infamous "Luftwaffe Commander" is better than this.

My final word is - This gets negative 5 stars.

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
Review: I wish I had read these reviews before buying it. Its a mess. So many bugs its unplayable. I have the latest 1Gb machine with 64Mb video etc etc and its still hopeless. Longest run is about 2 minutes before it crashes. Save your cash.

Summary: Rowan's Battle of Britain
Review: If you are a fan of the period, you ought to try this. There is a very helpful flightsim community at ... and they have worked through all the major issues and have released a large number of modifications to enhance the game visually.

BoB realistically recreates England and the huge scale of events of the Summer of 1940 in full authenticity. There is no other title that allows you to manage an entire airfleet (Luftwaffe) or the whole of RAF figher command, and then jump into the cockpit of your Spit or Hurri to face over 200 enemy aircraft. The attention to detail is stunning, and since the game's source code has now been released it is now being developed and continues to mature.

Once you have it running it is quite unique.

Superb.

Summary: Crash and Burn
Review: If you purchase this product you better wear a helmet! I never got this program off the ground. It crashes before any action happens. Talonsoft has a list of upgrades and patches for this program and none of them worked. Unless you can afford to reconfigure your computer specifically for this game I highly recommend not purchasing it.

Summary: The Pauly Shore of Flight Sims - too flaky for my taste
Review: Judging by the 25+ reviews here, a few people who buy this game will find it runs on their machines, and love it, and many many more will find it plain doesn't work, even after much searching for fixes on the web. I fall in the latter group - I can't control my planes since any throttle or flight stick movement (on my DIGITAL joystick!) causes extreme roll and pitch. In chase view I can see my flaps constantly jittering up and down even when I have my hands folded in my lap. Minor throttle adjustments cause extreme rolls to the left or right (i.e. not torque). I can fire up IL2 or EAW or Jane's WWII fighters or Jane's Attack Squadron and fly with the eagles but with BoB in the CD tray I'm just another spastic kamikaze. In the classic 'space-sim' Wing Commander 3 there is a particular mission where, should you choose to have a second drink at the bar, your joystick inputs are reversed for your next flight. BoB nicely simulates flying after barrels of ale or gallons of schnapps but I can't find the 'Inebriation off' toggle in the setup screens. How a modern game can interpret digital stick and throttle inputs as if coming from an analog stick with flaky pots is puzzling, but realize that if you buy this game you run a real risk of getting an unplayable sim in exchange for your money.

Summary: No Good
Review: This game (like my title) is No Good.. there are just so many other flight simulation games that this one is just like the otherz only u need a REALLY good computer just to run it... yes it has stunning detail and many planes, but if u dunt have the machine to run it... itz No Good... If u do happen to own a pentium 4 with a ge force 3 then this game might be worth it... but... overall therez other flight sim games simular to this one and this one is just No Good

Summary: A tad shy of brilliancy.....
Review: This game has classic written all over it - *IF* it is fixed. When properly functioning (which it does for me), the game is stunning and one of the best looking games I have ever played.

Animated white caps on the oceans, London, and huge clouds of planes make this an immersive epic of unparalleled proportions.

Unfortunantly, there are numerous issues with installation - and more with the campaign and computer AI. It is obvious that that Empire took what Rowan had at the time and dumped it on the public.

Tech support is non-existant and there is no word of a patch to take care of all the issues. In other words, it's a crying foul shame that a game this brilliant is left to rot...
