Rating: Summary: Not the best on a laptop Review: I thought with my new 500mhz PIII and 128RAM, this would run great. Well, think again! At first it froze up the system since it wasn't compatible with my graphics accelerator (it had to be turned down for it to run). Another thing to consider: Joysticks. Most laptops do not have a 15 pin game port (I found out the hard way) and I had to order one that was USB compatible. I have to admit it is fun once I got it running but I wish I could use the full potential of the program. I can only get 8-9 frame rates per second!
Rating: Summary: Things they should tell you before you buy! Review: I was very disappointed because the game is not compatible with many video cards so check for compatibility before you buy and MUST be played with the CD in the drive! Also listed minimum game requirements are misleading you need at least a 500MHZ system with at least 128Mb of ram for just reasonable framerates(10 to 20)!
Rating: Summary: Gee, I wish I had a grand to spend on hardware.... Review: I've been using the line of flightsims that Fs2k is based on for over a decade, almost since they started, and I must say that 2k is impressive. For me the best part is the 3d terrain, rolling hills and steep valleys are represented like never before. The quantity or airports is also impressive; it includes some near my home that I didn't even know existed. What the other reviews say about system requirements is correct, however, and MS's published limits are a bit optimistic. With my 300 mhz Pentium 2 with 32mg ram and a 3d video card, I can get flyable frame rates - with nearly every display option turned off. Clouds and weather are out of the question. If you've got a very fast machine, or were planning an expensive upgrade soon, then you can get the full effect of this software. Otherwise content yourself to being able to have loads of fun flying around in perfect weather all the time. Something I haven't seen mentioned in any other review is FS2k's amazing expandability - several websites exist where one can get free add-ons, and the possibilites are nearly endless (check out flightsim website). Software even exists to create your own scenery enhancements and your own aircraft. People all over the world use these to create great free- and share-ware additions. This is one of the things I liked best about FS98, and will certainly be fun for 2k users as well.
Rating: Summary: This is outrageous! Review: I've just bought a new (admittedly somewhat not state-of-the-art computer) and installed FS2K and I'm terribly disappointed! My new computer is an IBM! It's a couple of years old (it's an XT though!), but this new FS version locks up before I even get started! I don't know what the hell to do. I love to fly. My new machine has a processor speed of 4.77 megahertz! If the new FS won't run on this they shouldn't be selling it! Any advice would be appreciated. MikeS Laser147@Juno.com

Rating: Summary: Nice, but... Review: Let me start out by saying I've been a fan and owner of Microsoft Flight Simulator since version 2 back in the day.. I was excited to see FS2000, but not long after I installed it I ended up uninstalling it and returning to FS98. Why? The main reason was performance.. I have an AMD K6-III 450 with 128MB ram and a Voodoo Banshee graphics accelerator and this thing still crawls unless you disable all of the scenery and graphics detail (which to me is the whole point of upgrading to FS2000).. The other reason I went back to FS98 was that FS2000 lacks some of the "shadowing" effects FS98 has, things like landing lights and airplane shadows. I really like to be able to see my landing lights on the runway and the shadow of my airplane over the runway as I touch down. Microsoft has stated that these effects will NEVER be in FS2k due to changes in the gaming engine. I'll probably go back to FS2k once I upgrade my machine, but my advice to you is unless you have a 500mhz+ machine with a new graphics accelerator and tons of RAM, spend your money elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Adding another dimension to simulated games! Review: Microsft Flight Simulator 2000 is not just another Flight Sim game to keep you amused for a while. It's a benchmark that sets the standards of today's technology, and graphics that will amaze as to just how good things are getting in PC gaming. The best part of owning this game also means that you can have access to hundreds of add-on aircraft, favourite airliners, scenery, sound, navigation (and the list goes on!) at different websites. It's only a matter of searching for what you're after and in moments you can download what you want and take it from there! The gameplay is slightly downsiding for slower machines, because it is such a huge game, it will require faster machines and good video cards to increase performance. Never the less, it still makes decent play for the standard pentinum machines without 3D cards, but if you were thinking of getting that 3D card, then this is the time! Only wish there was more ATC and radio communication, though. A great game never the less, and that is an understatement. Guaranteed to keep every flight simmer in the air!
Rating: Summary: Check your system! Review: Microsoft has drastically understated the system requirements! Although my system exceeds the listed requirements, the best frame rate I could get was 3-4, compared with 14-18 for FS 98. Make sure you've got a high-powered system or you will be sorely disappointed with this game.
Rating: Summary: Just another warmed over game. Review: Microsoft, in their "infinite wisdom",has decided to warm over their FS98 version with this "clunker". After gobbling up more than 1 gigabyte of hard drive to do a custom load they still want you to do a lot of CD swapping just to play the game. At least with FS98, you can load it and play it off your hard drive. Iv'e spent more time loading and, swapping cd's than I have playing FS2000. Nothing too "whoopee" about their so called improved graphics either. A few little "frills" here and, there. I'm sure MS is proud of the fact that to start the game you have to verify each time by loading the CD's, taking from 1 to 3 minutes. "bummer".
Rating: Summary: Perfect for the pilot, student pilot, or aviation enthusiast Review: MSFS2K is one fantastic civilian flight simulator. As a student Pilot at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach Florida, I am very familiar with how aircraft perform. Microsoft Flight Sim 2000 (i have Professional [mmmm Mooney/Kingair]) is very close to the real thing. The downloadable real-world weather data makes it possible to go fly "right now" in curerent conditions. The aircraft perform how they should, plus you can try things you wouldn't dream of in real life. "Gee Mike, are you doing aerobatics in the concorde again? They have an extra 300 for that you know!" Graphic/terrain Detail is superb. I can find and recognize airports & major roads (IFR = I follow roads) from just about anywhere and there are more 3D buildings to look at than ever. The weather looks fantastic (check out a thunderstorm in a 777 or a Lear sometime) You need a real fast gaming system to maintain playability though. With the amount of end-user support for flight sim 98, you can be sure thet there will be hundreds of new aircraft to download, along with other new goodies. Multiplayer is tons of fun, as several students and i fly together regularly. We even have a dispach student play as an "observer" in the tower view to act as our ATC, just like in real life.
