Summary: Surprise them with a Math Lesson!
Review: Roller Coaster Tycoon is a piece of software that every middle/high school regular math teacher should have in their classroom. Why? What a better way to teach area and perimeter than to have your students design a roller-coaster theme park. Give them a plot of land, money, an idea, and time to develop their dreams. Do it on paper...then do it on the computer. Concrete to abstract. What a great way to teach real-world connections to your math lessons. Don't get me wrong, this is not a "Lesson in a can". You might have to do some really serious lesson planning to pull this thing off correctly, but if you can do it, this is really empowering to your students. If you have an unmotivated student, this can turn them around. If you have a "Poo-poo'er" on math and real world connections, this can show them how they go together. You can use this as a simple, fit the budget lesson, an area/perimeter lesson, a long term planning lesson, X-Y coordinate graphing, pre-algebra, algebra, physics, etc. Use your imagination to make learning connect to this project. I'm talking grants here....this could be a grant in the making!

Summary: Just like A DRUG
Review: Hours of fun and enjoyment but the high wears off very quickly. Great bang for your buck but your buck only lasts a month or two than it gathers dust. Young kids will find it much more addictive once they get the hang of it, but as I mentioned earlier teens and adults will tier quickly. Just remember dust it off once and a while and stick it in the computer for a while.

Summary: Sheer unadulterated fun
Review: I'm no rollercoaster fan, but even I got a sense of hairraising fun when I built my first coaster and heard the car moving on the tracks and the screams of the riders. The game really brings the sense of joy in an amusement park to the PC.

The interface is generally slick, and there are two things that keep this from being five stars: the rollercoaster design interface is a bit clunky, and it would be nice if the game started with an "open scenario" or scenario editor, instead of the scenarios packaged in the game

Summary: Fantastic design, addicting gameplay, mediocre interface.
Review: Many people who know this game could flip to see that I gave it anything other than 5 stars. But, I felt this game did not deserve the last stars for a couple of reasons which I will present you with now. By no means should you NOT purchase this game, but don't expect everything it's been described as.

The major positive aspects of "Roller Coaster Tycoon" are obvious. The user can create their own theme park right down to the roller coasters which they can design themselves. After designing the park the gamer can watch virtual people explore and enjoy the park.

The negatives just about even off with the positives. First of all, the interface makes creating roller coasters difficult. It will take the user a LOT of work to master creating a roller coaster quickly.

Secondly, when the user does ultimately make his creation... it will probably be disliked by the virtual people unless is snaps exactly to the guidelines.

Third, the information is incredibly innaccurate. How many roller coasters cost a mere $9,000? And in what world would people pay over $50 each to get in a theme park, and then pay insane amounts to ride each ride?

Lastly, Hasbro didn't release a Macintosh version. Something that all game developers should be doing as the Macintosh is grandly growing in the computer world and a much better gaming system than the PC.

Buy the game by all means, but it's not perfect.

Summary: Lots of fun for all ages!
Review: I love this game. I bought it for my sister and I ended up playing it more then she does. My aunt has the same problem. I think one of the best aspects of the game is how the situations gradually get more difficult, adding a real challange to the game.

Summary: Really Fun, Then it get boring
Review: I think that this game is fun. If you have a Compaq Computer Win.95, 98 you can't buy it because it won't fit. The other computer are o.k. I think this game is better then the expansion because it has a better graphic. First when I play the game, it is fun. But when I'm still playing it gets boring because you always need to babysit the guests. Then when you done, you have to wait until your object is finish. So I would give this a 4 and a half because it is not that fun at the end. I put five because you can not put down four and a half. So if you like roller coaster and go to amument park, this game is recomended for you.

Summary: Great fun but addictiveness wears off quickly
Review: This is a terrific, nonviolent, constructive (so to speak) game. It's great fun, and when I got it on a Thursday, I played it for a few hours that night, then a few more hours Friday night, and then all day Saturday and Sunday.

Since then, I still play it, but not with the same feverishness as before. It's still fun, but the beginning scenarios have started to look the same. Pump up the research, but food courts, make the park smaller by breaking up paths, etc. I expect that some of the later scenarios will get more difficult, but right now, the game isn't too hard.

It's pretty and neat to look at it, but be warned that it may not be as addictive as made out to be by other reviews.

Summary: Roller Coaster Tycoon
Review: Roller Coaster Tycoon is the most addicting game I have ever played. It's like walking through your own perfect theme park. However, I believe that there should be an option where the player can, just be free to build a theme park, rather than have a certain goal. I also find that many of the scenarios have terrain which takes an eternity (not to mention money) to terraform before I can even start to build. I do believe however that it is very realistic, one can even start ad campaigns for the park, decide the amount of R&D funding, etc. I would reccomend this game to anyone. I also am looking into receiving the expansion pack "Corkscrew Follies."
