Summary: A typical simulation
Review: The game might seem fun at first but then after a while it gets old. All you have to do is build and wait. You can set ships on sail, however, but you don't have control of them and you don't even get to see them. So if your not a simulation fan skip this.

Summary: Fresh Coat of Paint
Review: The graphics are a little out of date compared to games like Sim City 4.All they really did is but a fresh coat of paint on Tropico.Hey it's fun but they fell short on something orginal. But they give you a very nice booklet explaining a few things more than other game companys due.

Summary: ARRR...don't be missin' the fun
Review: This game is a whale of a good time! If you like games such as Stronghold, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, etc., you will enjoy this little treasure.

History mixes with fiction to make a splashing good time for both landlubbers and pirate royality alike.
Enjoy!

Summary: If the demo is anything to go by...
Review: This game is fun.

I enjoyed the original Tropico and the expansion. This game is simpler, easier to get into, though the Demo does not let you know everything you will be able to do in the full game.

It's not suitable for younger kids, however, as the theme is more Piratey than Pirates of the Carribean (though that used to be a bit more risque, itself). Wenching and lynching are part of the game, and pirates like anarchy, which is provided by sordid amusements. Very appropriate for the time period and topic, but it still limits the kids who ought to be playing it.

Try the Demo (warning it's 130 megabytes so no dial-up), it's the best way to find out if you agree with me.

Summary: Wenching and Pillaging. Arrgh
Review: This is no game for little kids. Though there is no graphic carnage, the implication is there. Besides, I don't know that I'd want little Timmy running an island where you get to subject poor little captives into a life of prostitution and pass edicts that allow random executions to keep the workers in line.

However, I adore the game. It's fresh and fun. The scenarios are lengthy and sometimes I wish the fastest speed went a little faster, but I think that's my only complaint.

Summary: Good but not great
Review: What makes a game enjoyable to me is the open-ended factor. I rarely, if ever, buy a game that is strictly mission & end-game based. That's why I enjoyed Tropico so much. It was diverse & enjoyable.

Tropico 2 is different. The sandbox mode gets boring relatively quickly & my interest has waned in it. It lacks the immersive quality that Tropico had. It was like Tropico Sims. You could watch your family expand & settle down into their homes to live out their lives. That quality isn't really available in Tropico 2. Your pirates run around & do the same things over & over. Same with your captives. The gameplay has always felt a bit shallow to me.

However it is enjoyable - you do get wrapped up in island production & the like. The lewd aspect isn't offensively done & I sincerely doubt anyone's kids will suddenly go & build a wenching hut instead of a treehouse. That's just me though.

Overall I give it 4 stars. The music is great, the graphics are good, the interface is easy to learn. It will keep you entertained for awhile.

Summary: Fun but gets old
Review: When I bought this game I was like cool its a game about a pirate controlling an island. Its got ok graphics. I never played the original Tropico so I couldn't tell you the differences. I played the game for about 5 hours. The only exciting part I found was sending the ships out to raid areas (when i played there was only one place to raid) Funny thing is they would never run out of people or be smart enought to move to another place (means not realistic). You would never see these raids. If you build too fast you would run out of captives. Very annoying. The whole fear thing on the captives doesn't mean anything. I never lost one captive. You could buy it or not its up to you!
