Summary: FRUSTRATING controls!
Review: This is a really fun game but the controls for movement of yourself and your creature are extremely frustrating! You are constantly off-center and trying to focus or running into mountains and trying to turn around and zooming in and out only to find your are zooming on something you didn't want to zoom on. The game is incredibly cool so I could not rate it a 3 but omg they need to do some work on easier handling; maybe take some tips from the ppl who made Everquest. It really is a shame to ruin a great game that way! I would play it much more often if it didn't anger me so.

Summary: Boring!
Review: When I first saw a preview for this game on the former "Gamespot TV," I told myself, "here comes a revolution!" I knew I had to buy this game. When it finally came out and I got it for Christmas, it dissapointed, for various reasons:

1. The system requirements are way too steep. I have a Duron 950 with 256 Mb of RAM and a 32-Mb S3 ProSavage. It is not a great system, but it is not mediocre either. Black and White slows down after an hour on my system on medium/low graphical detail setting.

2. I hate the fact that this game has a two-hour tutorial!

3. The AI is horrible! No element in this game can do anything without being commanded. There is no automation. Thus there is an unhealthy amount of micromanagement. "We need food, we need offspring, we need wood, we need more civic buildings!" No, you need better AI, that's what you need!

4. The creatures are sooo utterly stupid. All of them. They do not learn anything. My cow constantly eats villagers. I slapped it immediately after he did it for the first time. I have slapped it to death everytime it ate a villager. I am certain he will continue to do this. I guess this can also be contributed to weak AI.

5. I hate the fact that the id and the ego constantly tell one things about which one can do nothing. One can be at the east of a map converting a village; the angel suddenly shows up and says: "your creature will it that sort of thing more often." What is he eating?!

6. Why should a god game have missions and quests and levels to progress through? B & W is not a god game. It is a bad strategy game.

7. As the title suggests, there is no grey in this game: One is either an absolute good or an absolute evil! Molyneux should have learned in-game alignment setting from BlackIsle Studios (specifically Fallout 1 & 2)

Overall, B 7 W is an overwhelmingly boring game. I played it for five or six days. I have not touched it for seven weeks! I thought this was going to be a god game with philosophical enlightenment. It is merely a weak strategy game unable to hold one's attention.

Avoid it if you can!

Summary: Downward Spiral
Review: I bought Black and White because of the stunning reviews by gaming publications. All the publications gave the game great reviews and called it revolutionary. I was disappointed. The game is very repetitious and micromanage sensitive. This game fails in creating a good combination of strategy and combat for the time you play it. Each level felt very similar to previous ones in the general challenge and strategy presented.

This game was very creative and the graphics and sound were good. I got dizzy at times playing it though when learning how to change my view in the game. This is one of the few products I have reviewed that I could not finish. I have heard of many others who purchasing this game who felt the same way - not finishing the game.

I never tried the multiplayer aspect of the game although I can imagine practice would make perfect and like a real time strategy game, the user with the most experience will be an advantage.

This game takes quite a powerful machine to run on. I highly recommend you do serious research to see if this game is right for you before purchasing it.

Summary: Wonderful Game!
Review: Black & White has to be the best, and most addicting, game I have ever bought. The graphics are wonderful, and the story is great. For the game to run as smoothly as it should, you're going to need a pretty fast computer. Unlike other games, it's easy to switch through other windows and do several things at a time. I play this game hours at a time and haven't gotten tired of it yet! :) This game is definitely for dedicated RPG players!

Summary: GREAT game if you have a GREAT computer!
Review: When I FIRST played this game, I was soooo frustrated because it went so slowly, and the graphics didn't come out properly. (I was running it on a system with 64 mb ram and no graphic card) Then, I ordered more memory (128 mb now on my system) and a NVIDIA graphic card and...WOW! The graphics were extraordinary! The temple was absolutely lovely with all of the decorations. A lot of people would probably think that this is one of those "guy games" where they can do whatever they want with the people, but I am a girl and I thoroughly enjoy it! You have to choice to be kind or cruel (which I would NEVER do!) to your villagers and your creature. The creature is such a good idea! You can train him to help you, care for him, and change creatures as the game progresses. So if you have the system to support it, then you should buy it!

Review: I kept killing my villagers by being too slow, but it is fun to feed them to the monkey and lion.

Summary: Is It Really Necessary For Another Review?
Review: Well, this games sucks.

It is not even a finished product. Big gaming companies should be punished for not delivering a finished product. It's a different story if a game is not good, but it's totally unacceptable if people have to pay for imcomplete product.

Review: this game was pretty good, although i guess it would be better if i hadn't lost the disc before i really had time to play it enough to get my creature and town going... oh well

Summary: Great start, really lame finish
Review: I was one of the people who couldn't wait for Black & White to be released in early 2001. I read so much hype that the game couldn't help but to be a let-down after I was so pumped for how cool it sounded.

But the fact is Black & White is a fairly shallow, albeit interesting and fun, PC video game.

The game starts out interestingly enough with you learning the various, basic functions of the game and building up the abilities of your creature. This is the fun part actually, in that you see everything for the first time and the creature AI is something to behold for the first several hours. The graphics aren't too shabby either and the world is immersive and life-like, including a nice weather system integrated with your local forecast through the internet.

Eventually the game comes down to doing a couple of things; making scaffolds for buildings and dropping food in the villager food bins.

Sure there's more to the game, but the vast majority of your time will be spent doing those two monotous, repetitive tasks. The side quests can be fun and interesting, but many of them are completely unintuitive and silly.

What makes things worse is that your creature is either disabled or not in your posession for too much of the story - which consists of all of 5 different, similar-looking maps. And the story itself is completely uninteresting and seems to be second to the game's mechanics.

Black & White is fun for the first 15-25 hours, but beyond that it gets repetitive, monotonous and stale. [...] I should also mention the WinAmp plug-in, giving you the ability to create your own soundtrack. This is a great feature I'd love to see in more games.
