Summary: Fun , Addictive , ............... HARD !!
Review: Black and White is probably one of the most addictive games I've ever played in my gaming life. I just keep playing.. like a void keeping me glued to the seat. The most probable reason for this is it's hard. Making you want to get better ( hardcore gamers.. like me). If you have a busy schedule, or just can't play video games other than pong.. don't get the game because you won't enjoy it to the games full potintial. If you got nothin' to do, and like a challenge.. GET the game. Now for some game details : *Choose a creature that can grow to be up to 30 meters *Manage a village that will worship you *Take over other gods domains *or just leave the game on and let your creature grow

Anyway.. I liked the game, beside the villagers. And I think you might like the game to if you can take the heat.

Summary: Black & White - Game of extremes
Review: Black - terrible user interface. Want to turn right? Then press the left arrow key... Want to look up? Then press the down arrow key. Geez!! What were they thinkin'? Some things are time independent, but a lot of the puzzles have to be done in the right order or they fail. If you make mistakes training your animal, then later on you are stuck with starting all over. No real story to speak of... still you must follow the puzzle line to make much progress... It is more a puzzle game (ala Myst) rather than a simulation (ala Sim City).

White - Good graphics. Reasonable sound. Good tutorial. Okay manual.

Added puzzle - it took me over a day to get the game to run on my Matrox G200 video card. Hint: The latest driver is the wrong driver. The unified driver is the right driver.

Summary: Nice to look at at first, but tires quickly
Review: At first, I loved this game. The graphics great for such a game. The town in the first land was easy to deal with. I progressed through the first land rather quickly and moved on to the second land. At the second land I realized that I had not trained my creature well and started to get some hints that this game had a lot of micromanagement. At first I thought that I could train my creature to deal with the micromanagement but that is false. I restarted and trained my creature for over 4 hours to help me take care of my towns only to find that there was little improvement in how my creature "thinks".

In this game you are constantly taking care of both your creature and your town. This can get overwhelming. When you get to the second land you also have to deal with the other gods. While at the same time take care of your creature and your towns. I was spending around 75% of my time taking care of my towns such as feeding them, making forests for them to chop down, making buildings for them, etc. This game is like playing simcity, tomagochi (is that how you spell it?), and warcraft all at the same time. If that is your idea of a great game then go for it. I personally don't think that this sort of combination works well.

Summary: Buy This
Review: This game is quite possibly the best strategy-sim game for the PC. How could you not like being God?Messing around with petty humans, and displaying miracles is really fun.

Summary: Are we beta testers?
Review: It seems people either love or hate this game. I suspect this depends a lot on your tolerance for frustration and your liking of eye candy. I started out liking the lush graphics and the cute creature, but after playing a while, the tediousness of constantly refilling your worshipper's food supply, the constant "we need homes" whines, and the 2 minute auto saves every 15 minutes started to drive me nuts. You can turn off auto save, but you can't change the interval.

Navigation in a game world should become automatic after a while, but all too often in B&W I wind up looking straight up at the sky instead of moving across the land, because I clicked the mouse too close to the edge of the screen. You have to pay careful attention to how you navigate, especially when you're in a hurry, just when want to pay attention to what you're trying to do.

Drawing on the screen to activate miracles is an interesting idea, but if you're running a system that isn't well over the recommended graphics capability, the system gets confused and I have to try two or three times before a gesture is recognized. Why couldn't they have provided keyboard shortcuts?

The gameplay/strategy elements of this game are pretty lame. Make wood, make food, make some more wood, make some more food, go to a town you don't own and throw some miracles until they believe in you, make some more wood, make some more food, etc. etc. Not a lot of thought or strategy involved. The quests are more interesting, but by the time you've completed one, all your worshippers are dying from lack of food. There's plenty in the town store just down the hill, but the worshippers are too dumb to go get it.

After a while, the negatives just eroded out the positives and I no longer have any desire to play the game. If they ever get the patch out it may be tolerable. If you can tolerate some tedium and frustration, you might like this game.

Summary: Dissapointing
Review: While the concept of the game sounds inviting,I found it to be way too tedious and slow. The awkward movement methods and constant script interuptions makes for a very frustrating game experience (I thought such games were supposed to be fun). I made it to the beginning of the second level and decided that it was time to quit the game for good since any further effort would only add to my already high frustration level. Perhaps I was expecting too much as a result of just finishing Myst III Exile (an awsome game).

Oh well, I tried it. Perhaps I can find someone with more patience and gaming skills than I who would appreciate a freebee.

Summary: A Brilliant Technology Demo
Review: I looked forward to Black and White for months before its release. The day it came out, I went out and purchased it immediately. For an entire week, I played B&W relentlessly. It was at the end of that week that the novelty of the graphics and the control system wore off and I realized just what I was doing in the game. I was spending hour after hour casting spells, uprooting trees, and farming to support my villagers (they can do very little on their own). My creature was very good at watering plants and filling my woodpile, but I had to babysit even him and force him to eat and stay healthy. On top of coping with those problems, the game forces you to solve ridiculous puzzles and perform a multitude of mundane tasks (find sheep, play musical rocks, shadow a monk, etc.). Overall, I think that B&W had a great concept, perhaps too good (and broad) of a concept to be properly executed. My two star rating reflects the initial level of fun that can be had with this game, as well as the frustration that it dissolves into. With so many good games out right now (Tropico, Baldur's Gate II, AOE II, Europa Universalis, Tribes II, No One Lives Forever, and many others), I cannot see any reason that anyone should waste precious time and money on the stupendiously flawed Black and White.

Summary: Another great from the Populous series...
Review: Even though it doesn't hold the populous name, it plays and feels like they fixed everything wrong with Populous: The Beginning and the addition of your creature/avatar is a game to itself.

Summary: Not Satisfying
Review: The game has an incredible look and feel to it. However, gameplay is repetitive and becomes boring rather quickly. There are only five levels to complete, and while each level has its own challenges and quests, there is not enough action and most of the challenges are too easy. Additionally, there are "bugs" in the program and some promised features are not activated. I have been unable to complete the game because of the "Land 5 Creature Curse" bug. (For more information about these problems you can check the bulletin boards at www.bwgames.com. A patch has been promised by early June, but it seems too little too late.) I would not recommend this game other than as a curiosity. It has been overhyped and does not deliver enough bang for the buck. If you think you want to buy this game WAIT FOR THE PATCH!
