Summary: Carrier Combat- Where's my Dauntless?
Review: This has got to be one of the greatest games I've played! The graphics and textures are just amazing! This game is about 3x as good as the old MCFS I also have. Giving your wingmates commands definitely improved the gameplay and its interesting to see how they do against the enemy. The only problem with the game is their is no other planes than fighters. I'd love to fly a Dauntless, or a Japanese Val, a Kate, or an Avenger torpedo bomber but unfortunately they didn't come with the game. Sure the combat realism is great, but it's hard to believe how bad your wingmates are at shooting down Zeros sometimes. I ended one campaign with about 126 kills while my top wingmate had a paltry 8 kills! You could probably use a few more commands for your friends and a better A.I. in this game but overall its a above average flight game. You should also make sure you have a nice, beefy, overpowerful PC and one heck of a graphics card. I suggest that if you are a serious gamer that you give this game a try.

Summary: Combat Flight Simulator 2
Review: I aslo own Combalt Flight Simulator WWII Series which I enjoy, 5 Star. Simulator II is too animated, has too personal a story line. I buy a Flight simulator to fly. I was a pilot instructor in the 60's. The story line in the WWII Series provides information about the war and the planes which provides the interest and needed information. It would be very hard for me to say that Simulator 2 is as much fun and as interesting as WWII Series.

Summary: Close but no Cigar
Review: If anyone grew up watching bah bah black sheep on TV, was probably expecting a little more realism from this game. I thought the original Combat Flight Simulator, was closer to being true to the feel. The cartoon pictures and lame story line, was a failure in this second edition.

I think they could have done much better, starting where the pacific war started with Pearl Harbor, and follow it through with each major battle. Another thought is what's next for them. Not World War II, they've pretty much covered everything in two editions, it would have made more sense to break things up a bit, and pour more into the graphics and movies with two editions.

Overall, it has good game play, and is faster than the last edition. A plus for me is it runs under W2K. Get it and expect a cartoonish look, but good graphics while in combat and you'll be happy.

Summary: runs great on a p4!
Review: I'm running this game on a p4 1.3Gig, 128megs of drram at 400mgz, a matrox g450 3d video card with 16megs, and a thrustmaster top gun afterburner stick\throttle\rudder combo. the game is clear with great frame rate and smooth response. the only problem is that the throttle wants to start at 100% (even befor you start the engine!) Great game, but needs high end system.....

Summary: Nice graphics!
Review: The planes in this game are exquisite! The ocean and ground graphics are beautiful too. The campaign editor is cool and really easy to use.

Summary: Some Serious Problems
Review: My copy of this game was marginal when I first loaded it. There are a few distrubing errors: 1.) your squadron mates do not have any landing gear, 2.)the gunsight is significantly off-center, 3.)the bailout image flutters superimposed on the crashing plane, and 4.)the throttle starts up at 100% evey time. In addition, my game just recently stopped responding to key or button strokes when launching rockets, bombs, or drop tanks. Microsoft has tried to help (if you want to call them and spend 9 or 10 bucks reloading and discussing options) but assured me that all the games share the gunsight and landing gear problems. Is this quality?

Summary: Will NOT Run Under Windows NT (any version)
Review: 1.) This game will absolutely NOT run under Windows NT (any version). I tried it at a friend's home and it was fantastic. I then visited ... and saw that ... listed it as running under Win 95, 98, and NT - so I purchased as copy. Much to my surprise, it would NOT install. I called Microsoft "Games Tech Support" (in the back of the manual) and they told me that it definitely would NOT run under Windows NT (any version). However, "Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator: WW-II Europe" and "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000" WILL run under Windows NT - so I bought those directly from ... You can buy their games AND get the correct information about each game's requirements from: ... 2.) Although I do not have it working on my PC, it is an incredibly realistic flight combat game. It is technically better than "MS Combat Flight Simulator: WW-II Europe", although I still like that games a great deal. BUT it is NOT as realistic as "MS Flight Simulator 2000": no combat here, but is like taking actual flight lessons (which I am currently doing and this software was recommended by the instructor). 3.) Do NOT rely on ... information re: system requirements about any games. Go to Microsoft or other manufacturer to get the CORRECT information. (I contacted ... about 1 month ago re: incorrect information on their web site and they still have NOT corrected it!!

Summary: Really great game!
Review: Absolutely fun, realistic, great-looking, and worth every cent. The way scenery is so smoothly handled in this game sets the standard for all other flight simulators, both for military and civilian flight. This game takes your senses back to World War II, while at the same time having a modern, well-rounded and easy to use feel to it. I suggest a force feedback joystick, you'll love the kick of those big .50 caliber machine guns and the feedback as you pull serious G's to take on enemy fighters. Excellent product!

Summary: Will NOT run under Windows NT
Review: Warning: This product will NOT run under Windows NT 4.0 - in fact, it will not even install. The Amazon.com web pages list WinNT as an acceptable platform for this game, but Amazon is mistaken. I called Microsoft (Games Tech Support) and was told that it was NOT made to run under WinNT and will not even install (as I found out the hard way).

Microsoft told me, however, that "Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator" (the original WW-II Europe version) DOES work on WinNT.

So do NOT rely on what the Amazon web pages tell you regarding acceptable platforms. Instead, go to www.Microsoft.com/Games/ and look up the information yourself - at least Microsoft has the CORRECT information.

Summary: Poor graphics and performance
Review: On a 450 AMD with 8mb of video this game was a great disappointment. Jerky motion and bad graphics greatly disppointed me. It is no better graphic wise then my copy of A10, would think the image quality would have improved over the years. When aircraft get near ground its pixel city bigtime. The quality of the zeros off in the near distance is terrible also. Aircraft response sluggish. I would think the Compaq which exceeds system requirments would be more than up to the task. Will most likely return this to the retailer.
