Summary: Chessmaster 6000 Hates Windows XP
Review: I Also have a pentium 4 machine and a AMD anthlon and The Chessmaster 6000 version will not run on either. I reloaded Windows 98 on one system and got it to play. A real disappointment that the 6000 version is such a pain, It is a great program. But then how would they get you to upgrade to the now Chessmaster 9000 version. Kinda sounds like Microsoft's way of doing business doesn't it?

Summary: Awesome software... hate the box!
Review: I'm a current member of the U. S. Chess Federation; and I've been playing chess for more than 20 years... although I still consider myself to be a beginner, I like anything that helps me to improve my game... and that's exactly what Chessmaster 6000 has done. However, I did find a couple of glitches... in the Chess Tutorial, where it talks about notation for correspondence chess, page 346 of 351 the software displays 4223, but says 2222; and on page 347 of 351 it displays 6824 and says 6854. This leaves me wondering what else I'll discover as I continue to learn from this software.

The User's Guide does a more than adequate job of explaining the use and operation... although at times I found it to be a bit monotonous and redundant.

As for the box, no, I'm not talking about the box it comes in... inside the packaging is a plastic two CD case that has the locking feature which supposedly keeps the CD's more secure. I wish they would have packaged the product in two separate cases, with the standard center to anchor the CD's... one of mine is already chipped from my concerted effort to get it out of the box.

One more thing... it's good to see and hear Josh Waitzkin!

Summary: Good for the price.
Review: Most places will sell Chessmaster 6000 for a reasonable price, and it will be worth it. Good luck in trying to beat it though.

Summary: A Perfect Computer Game
Review: Real classic games such as chess have been around for hundreds of years. Quake type games come and go, but Chess will be around for centuries more and this version is the best there is. You have 300,000 games on a database that have been played by some of the masters and viewing them has significantly helped my game. The graphics are real as there is a variety of boards to choose from. You can have either a 3-D or 2-D board with a variety of pieces such as metal or wood. I believe this version is even better than the latest from what I have seen. If you want a game that will NEVER be obsolete, get this game. 4 million people cannot be wrong!

Summary: Still playing catchup
Review: This series has always been trying to catch up with the "serious" chess programs like Fritz, Hiarcs and Junior. With this release it has improved again but still lags behind. If you're older than 7 and so don't find the Disney style board the most important thing pony up a few more dollars and track down a copy of Fritz 6.
