Summary: To the tune of Gilligan's Island
Review: (To the tune of Gilligan's Island)

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, A tale of a fateful install,

That started from this online store on the world wide web.

I was a mighty PC guru, The wife was anxious and unsure.

One PC guru set out for a six hour install. A six hour install . . .

Needless to say this was one wicked install. I build my own PC's from scratch and people have a motto that they tell me to stick to, "If it 'ain't' broke, don't fix it." Unfortunately, I try not to listen to every one else. The problem is NOT with the game itself but with the OpenGL (OGL) drivers that are installed when GLSetup is installed. In theory, GLSetup should NOT be run if you have the latest drivers from the company. However, I did not have the updated drivers so naturally I ran GLSetup. That's when all Hell basically broke loose.

Why am I talking about OpenGL? Because Bugdom is an OpenGL only game. Therefor it will only run correctly with the latest drivers and at least DirectX 7.0. (Don't ask, I don't know why.) Granted the graphics aren't exactly as smooth as that of the "gasp!" Mac version but it is very very cute. The story is pretty basic, You play as a potato bug looking thing who calls himself Rollie McFly to try and save the Princess Lady Bug from the Evil King Thorax. Really kind of typical and over played in numerous other games, oh well. The graphics are very well done eliciting a very loud "How cute!" from my girlfriend and a "I wanna play! I wanna play!" from some shrimp I've never seen before in the house at the time. I did notice that the "options" menu contains NONE of the traditional options like sound/music volume, screen resolution, detail level and what not. The Window-like buttons are also VERY subtle, It's very difficult to see if the buttons in the sub menus are pressed in or not. I guess it qualifies as a "Blooper" in Jeff Johnson's eyes. Another unsual thing I did notice, the PC that had all of the problems had a ATI Rage Fury, which uses the ATI 128 chipset. Last I checked, this is part of the same family of 128 Pro's that the iMac and other apple thingies use. Also uses the same set of drivers as the 1280 Pro, How odd.

As far as installation goes, I certainly hope that Take2 does a double take on the installation software. There are several notes to take during the installation.

First. Check the BOIS/CMOS if you have a motherboard with an AGP style video card. It is crucial that you set the aperture size correctly. In my case it was 64 before it became stable.

And Second. Get all of the latest drivers for your hardware, not least of all the video card.

Sad to say this game will not run otherwise. But why the four stars? You may ask. Well, like I said I'm a PC Guru, I don't consider twisting a PC to my whim and will a problem but a challenge instead. If you can get past the BS that this game gives you during installation, You or your children will certainly enjoy the game. It certainly is a nice game to get away from the blood and gore that games like American McGee's Alice or Quake III offers. Besides, I'm not allowed to play the bloody games when the shrimp is in the house.

Summary: Good game, but not on Windows
Review: This game is great! I love the graphics! Unfortunately, it does not deserve to be on Windows. It was originaly made for Mac, and it did and still does rock, but only on that platform. On Windows in isn't nearly as exciting, partly because the game doesn't run as well. I don't think it should have been made for Windows, however, it does show that Mac games are sometimes better than Windows ones.

Summary: Bugdom is full of bugs
Review: My 7 year old has been playing Bugdom at school on iMacs and loves it, so we bought the Windows version.

My computer is 6 months old, AMD Athlon 700MHz with a 32 MB AGP Video Card yet Bugdom crashes continually. When we do get a screen, the icons are upside and the mouse fades in and out. Tried to contact Tech Service (only get an email address) but no reply yet. As a computer professional, I am disgusted by the amateur approach taken by this vendor.

Never gave a thought that I might have problems with this program. Now I have a miserable son asking me every morning if I have fixed Bugdom.

Do yourself a favor, do not touch this program unless you are positive that your computer can run it.

Summary: Bugdom
Review: This game is very exiting and endventurous. There's a new adventure lurking behind every level. Of course winning is fun but in this game every thing inbetween is what really makes the game. I recomend this game to anyone that is in a change for something really fun!

Summary: This game dosen't BUG me!
Review: I think this game rocks! You can kick, jump, swim, and ride bugs. Some of your enemies include grasshoppers that punch you with boxing gloves and fire ants thar throw arrows and rocks at you. The toughest enemie is the king of the fire ants. Once you defeat him you will become ruler of the Bugdom. I also like this game because there are some secret codes. I reccomend Bugdom!
