Summary: Great Game
Review: I don't know what everyone is complaining about! First of all everyone complains about having to have the disk to play. How hard is it to it the open/close button on your computer. If any future post can tell me 5 games that have come out in the past year that doesn't have to have a cd in the drive to play, I will take it back. Secondly, everyone complains about the terrible odds. I have only seen 1 4-of-a-kind in the 10 tournaments I have played(2 of which I won.) I have turned the original 5k into a million dollars! I got this game in the 75% off bargain bin at Office Depot which made it $5. It would have even been worth the $20. This is my first Hoyle casino game so previous versions could have been better and I not know about it, but I think the game is fantastic!!!!!!

Summary: Cheaper than Losing in Vegas
Review: I find the Hoyle Casino 2004 game remarkably diverse and charmingly addicting. Yes, the CD must be in the drive for the game to work. Pity the pirates.

The games seem very Vegas like and it's enjoyable to try out many of the options I would never have the guts to play in a real casino. The computer players can be amusing, but unlike other reviewers I find them dumb and unlucky. I can routinely beat them in Poker (and that's the best way to rack up lots of money quickly). To the other reviewer who felt the computer players were biased: Pal, learn when to fold!

I did find the "talking" feature to be really insipid. Hoyle needs to hire someone with talent to script the other players, so I think for the future talking computer players could be a real riot. (The drunk, the flirt, the unintelligible foreigner, etc.) And the silly "Dealer" makes comments no real deal ever would, "Player loses!" Fortunately you can turn that nonsense off.

Overall: Very fun, well worth the price. Recommended.

Summary: I love this game!
Review: I found this game extremely addicting. I play this all the time. The characters crack me up although you do get used to hearing the same lines after a while. It would be nice if Sierra had updates so their characters would have more variety of things to say or new characters to add.

I have no problem playing with the cd inserted because ALL the other games I own (Sims, first person shooters, adventure) are like this so I'm used to it.

Since I don't own any other gambling games the only thing I can compare this to are the online types. To me this is a whole lot more fun.

Summary: Needing the CD is bad for a specific reason:
Review: I have heard a million reasons why inserting the CD is annoying or it could get lost etc - all of which are great reasons against requiring the CD in the drive. I always go back to consoles and think the PC has every right to require the same as the consoles. There is, however, a MAJOR thing that Hoyle/Sierra forgot and they are frankly dumb as dirt to forget this:

Who plays this game? I'd wager a very significant percentage of the purchasers are people like me that wanted the game for our LAPTOPS! I just bought a new tablet PC and would love to sit and play some simple games on the plane that don't require action or awesome CPU power and I can play while I fly or wait at the airport. I have truly abused the poor poker players on Hoyle Casino 2003 for this reason, yet never loaded it on my desktop (which plays Doom 3 quite well thank you) ;)

So, now Sierra lost me as a customer simply because I *cannot* play this game. I have no CD drive in my laptop. My other laptop I've been using has a CD drive but I take it out and replace it with a battery. Putting the drive in means I can't play the game cause it would suck my remaining battery dry. plus, other than for the game, I haven't travelled with a CD drive in years.

What a group of dummies running the marketing department at Sierra.

Summary: Have they added passing to pinochle yet?
Review: I have Hoyle Card Games 5, and enjoy it, but the Pinochle implementation does not include passing cards. That's the only reason I see to upgrade, so it would be a waste of money if it doesn't add that...

Summary: Crazy About Puzzles
Review: I have played many puzzles games and this CD offers a nice variety for anyone who enjoys playing puzzles...maze games, majohng, crossword and many others. This game would be a nice addition for most all families.

Summary: No more!
Review: I have purchased Hoyle card games in the past, but after this one, I done with them. I was unable to install this game properly using Windows XP. The suggestions the "techs" gave me were of no use and almost condensending.

Summary: Better than I thought
Review: I have the other versions of these Hoyle games, mainly I got new ones because they had new games. This one did not so I avoided buying it.
I got the puzzle games and hated it because of the display style everything seems to tiny and you can't make it more full screen like you could in the old versions. I was really hesitent to buy this but I did anyway.
I am enjoying it. The "Hoyle Bucks" makes the game more interesting as you try to do certain things to make the money plus collect the backrounds and such. (now you are "paying" for card back and backrounds that used to be "free") I like the talk back feature. There have always been characters I wish I could tell off and now I can ;). If that gets old I can always turn them off.

So if you are new to Hoyle Card Games then get this. If you have previous versions then only get if you have the extra money or these features sound tempting to you and you dont mind having to have the cd in the drive to play.
