Rating: Summary: On-line opponents Review: I've been reading all your reviews, yet not one mentions playing an opponent on-line with CM9000. Does this software support playing other CM9000 players on-line??
Rating: Summary: Lots of nice features. Review: Well I'm glad this program supports XP. I had to make sure before I bought it. I'm glad I did get it. From what I see so far this is a real winner of a chess program. There are a lot customizations that can be made to tailor the program to your skill level and there are many tutorials and sample games provided.
Rating: Summary: great program Review: I was waiting for the longest time for UBisoft to make Chessmaster compatible with XP. In this version, CM 9000, they did it and they did it well. This is a great program. It might not have a fancy an engine as Fritz or Hiarcs, but for 98% of the population, this program works just fine. The graphics are better than any other chess program and Josh Waitzkin is just great in his virtual chess master classes. i highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to improve her chess game!
Rating: Summary: Chess Master 9000 is a great program! Review: I highly recommend the latest version of ChessMaster - It combines almost every imaginable feature one could want in a playing program, and includes many tutorials, some by Josh's first chess instructor, Bruce Pandolfini! It has at least 150 different historic and custom made 'personalities', some of which are children players and beginners. The manufacturer of CM 9000, the Ubi Soft company provides good customer support for this product, and is quite responsive to user feedback, for new features in the next versions. I've never been disappointed in a ChessMaster program, which is updated about once a year. The program is advanced enough for masters, yet comprehensive enough for complete beginners and children. Also, the price is quite nice for such a complete program. Since getting this program, I have used some of the Waitzkin tutorials, and tried the Rate your chess feature, as well as a few of the Larry Evens and John Nunn problems. The program is very rich in all these different tutorials, and is very challenging for me as a USCF Life Master with a FIDE rating of 2184. (USCF, 2042). I found it significantly better organized then previous versions of the same program. I do reccomend the following improvements for the next version though; 1: Make the 2d boards resizable using the drag & drop via the right mouse key. (In fact, please make all windows resizable via draging). 2: Make scrolling through the moves in a game possible with the right arrow key in any envirement, including the tutorials (Use a switch to activiate it, if this is an envirement where you are normally not suppossed to do this, choosing to scroll through moves here, being equivelent to ending the test). 3. Make all the moves of the Josh Waitkin games replayable via the right mouse key, even though Josh only analysis some of his games at the critical moment. I really hate having to search the database seperately to see all the moves of these games, & I'm not sure that they are always included in this database either. Also, sometimes Josh refers to his opponent or himself playing a game in this or that same line in an event - I'd really love it, if he would include this refered to game in the database, or better still, in a seperate 'Josh Waitkins selected games' database - A possible new database for a future version! The above being said, I really think that Josh Waitzkin has found a beautiful, instructive & unique ninch as a chess commentater with these Chess Master products - I've enjoyed his lectures more then any others, and I hope he continues doing this for a long time to come! Rating: Summary: Powerful and fun Review: I cannot believe how far chess games have progressed! Chessmaster 9000 is the most enjoyable chess game I have ever played. The tutorials and lessons are top notch and worth the purchase on their own. Slick graphics and lightening response time make this game a joy, rather than the burden other chess games have been in the past. Oh, and not to beat a dead horse, but the box clearly states that Chessmaster 9000 supports Windows 98, ME, and XP. The only OS I have had trouble running on is Windows 2000 Advanced Server - which is just as well, otherwise I would spend my whole work day playing chess.
Rating: Summary: Win XP Review: This is the best chess game on earth and of course it will support Win XP, even if they say 98/ME. Do you really think they'd make a game not supporting XP in 2002 ???
Rating: Summary: Hey Stephanie Falcon ... Review: Try actually reading the box, not just the platforms listed by Amazon. 9000 IS officially supported on XP, and the other versions run just fine (I have them all, I run XP). So in the future if you haven't bought it, don't review it!
Rating: Summary: Chessmaster 9000 WILL support Windows XP Review: Chesssmaster 9000 will indeed support Windows XP, however it will not support Windows 2000. The following is from chessmaster.com: The next version of Chessmaster (due to be released around the beginning of September, 2002) will support Windows XP/ME/98/95. There are no plans to make the next version of Chessmaster support Windows 2000/NT.
Rating: Summary: The official site says the next version will support XP Review: I found this on the Chessmaster site "The next version of Chessmaster (due to be released around the beginning of September, 2002) will support Windows XP/ME/98/95. There are no plans to make the next version of Chessmaster support Windows 2000/NT."
Rating: Summary: No support for Windows XP! Review: Well I've been searching for Chess games recently and I'm surprised that this version which is being released in September 2002 is not compatible with Windows XP! Yes look at the requirements: Windows 95 / 98 / Me or go to UBI Soft's website and indeed they are not supporting Windows XP for most of their games including this one. They say something about Windows XP having a new file type that is not compatible with their software. GRRRR I mean come on! I have a new tower PC and a new laptop both with Windows XP and I would love to have a nice Chess game available for it. UBI Soft get it right! Support Windows XP! Well I've love to play this game if I could. :( They only get a 1 star review from me until they support a Windows XP version. Stephanie
