Summary: Great!
Review: I own an older version of Hoyle Card Games and I love it. The characters are funny and you can program them to be talkative or quiet. I use this CD nearly every day and the characters still say things that I've never heard them say before--and I've had the game 3 years. My nieces and nephews (5,8, and 10) head for the computer and plug in the CD as soon as they get here. All backrounds, sounds and cards are individually programmed by you but it's not difficult. You can make the game play easy, moderate or expert and can make the play as fast as possible. It's great for the whole family---you'll love it.

Summary: Mislabelled Specs for Hoyle Card Games 5 (2002)
Review: I purchased this game with a labelled carton saying it was for "Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP". After installation, I could not activate any sound effects, using a Windows 2000 operating system. Now the phone support states that it is not designed for 2000, and this operating software is no longer sisted on your website for the program. It is going back to Costco, and I shall find another source of card game software. Very disappointed.

Summary: 1 Day Fun + 1/2 Day Uninstall
Review: I'm terribly disappointed. If the game worked fine, I would have given it a 5 star rating. As it is, I'll give it a 1 star for the one day of use I got out of this application. I had previously had a trial version that I downloaded and so was really anticipating some enjoyable card playing when I purchased the Hoyle Card Games software. After less than a full day of use, when I tried to run the program without the CD in the CD-Drive (as was stated I could) it failed to load. Not only that but it re-started my OUTLOOK program and completely wiped it clean. I had to re-set my computer to the default of a couple of days before to regain my lost files. After scouring through the SIERRA online help, I sent a message to their tech support people. The automated response suggested that this program was not supported nor tested on WINDOWS XP. The box accompanying the software clearly states otherwise. After hearing of so many others with installation and running problems, I am hesitant to re-install even if I receive a response from SIERRA. BTW, the Sierra website lists approximately 108 pages of problems, of which at least 12 pages are for HOYLE CARD GAMES. Think Twice!

Summary: Canasta still a problem
Review: I've used several versions of Hoyle Card Games, and it's one of my favorite pieces of software - BUT - I've upgraded twice, once to get the Canasta game and once to get what I hoped would be the Canasta game without the bugs. Unfortunately, as other reviewers have pointed out, the bugs are still there. One of my computer partners recently threw a card on the pile that not only would have given us a natural canasta but also gave the opponents the pile, a canasta and the ability to go out - a turnaround in score of about 1500 points. In real life, you could go across the table and threaten your partner with strangling, but all you can do here is exit and walk away mumbling! The other game I play most is Spades, and I've never had such serious problems there.

Summary: Create a near life-like picture of yourself to play cards
Review: The card games are fun. But I really had a good time creating my face to be one of the players (there is a large menu of face, nose, eye, mouth shapes as well as hair color/styles and clothes to choose from; surprisingly lifelike pictures resulted). It took some time, but I found it enjoyable. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is that I couldn't get the sound to come on and my computer should be more than adequate to the task.

Summary: Stacked deck
Review: This is agreat game if you like playing against a stacked deck. Most of the reviews I've seen talk about installation and run issues, but I've played these games a lot and have gotten to the point where I can call the game before it starts.

I mostly play the Cribbage and the Gin. Play the Cribbage. Your opponent will get 3 to 4 fives for each of yours, and will get at least one or two absolutely killer cuts. He will also almost always have a hand that he can play directly into yours - if you have a nine, he always has a six. I've played Cribbage for 40 years and maybe have seen 1 or 2 24 point hands. Expect your opponent to get one per game.

The Gin is almost as bad. My advise - don't win. If you think you got garbage hands before, after you win it get even worse.
