Review: Most of the puzzle solutions were out of the blue. There were no hints what so ever at what needed to be done.

Summary: Sound Problems
Review: Newer computers have a hard time running these old DOS games, but there's a simple way to fix it.

For Monkey Island 1, you need to have your cd-rom hooked up to your soundcard. If you can play music cd's from your computer, then you should be able to get sound from monkey island 1.

Monkey Island 2 was not reprogrammed to use the cd soundtracks and you may not hear any sound. You need to copy the contents of the monkey island 2 folder from the cd to your hard drive. Right click on the ms-dos shortcut entitled monkey2 and go to properties. Uncheck the box read-only. Then go to the "program" tab and in the "cmd line" textbox it should say Monkey2.exe. There are three flags you can enter after monkey2.exe: a, r, or i (example: monkey2.exe i). These flags tell the program what soundcard to use. Use "a" if you have an adlib or soundblaster compatible card. "r" if you have a roland sound card. Or "i" for your computer's internal speaker, which sound like beeps when your computer boots up. On my pentium 4 with a soundblaster live! I couldn't get the sound to work with the "a" flag but the "r" flag and "i" flag worked. But on my pentium 3 with a generic soundcard the "a" and "i" flag worked but the "r" flag didn't. Play around and see which one works for you. The music doesn't sound very smooth because your soundcard is only emulating the old soundcards, but at least you can hear that cool monkey island music whilst playing the game.

Also, you can listen to the cd on your cd player. But skip track one, it's the game data.

Summary: After all these years, it's STILL around!
Review: Secret of Monkey Island came out near a decade ago, and it's STILL the same classic it ever was!!

This package comes with all three of the first games to boot, and they truly are a joy to play! Forget smooning over the old graphics. GET OVER IT!!!!! Enjoy it for its humor and charm!! If you can't enjoy it for THAT without overlooking the graphics, then you are S.T.U.P.I.D. beyond comprehension and need to GROW UP.

The Curse of Monkey Island, being the more recent of the three, is more modernized in terms of graphics, along with full voice and music. Remember Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle? Well, maybe you don't. But if you do, you'll definitely see the similarities.

The conversation between Guybrush and Murray the Skull still splits my side even though I've seen it countless times. Murray is by-far the most hilarious character in the game. He's this demonic skull you meet in the beginning of the game that tries *way* too hard to be evil and repulsive.

Summary: A must-have collection
Review: The Monkey Island games are outstanding games for anyone to play. They are laugh-out-loud funny, and present the player with some challenging puzzles. The games rely on imagination rather than shoot-em-up gore and lightening reflexes; this makes them appeal to a broad audience. I gave them as a gift to my mom; she played them straight through and is begging for more games like these.

The games in the archive are the first three on the Monkey Island series, and as such show the evolution of the technology. The first two have much earlier graphics and no sound (except for background music). The third has much slicker graphics and audible dialog. These lead up to the fourth (not included in the set), which has 3D graphics.

But don't let the older technology put you off. These are still the best video games ever written, and you'll be missing a great time if you pass them up.

Summary: TREMENDOUS
Review: The most important thing i have to say about this game is.......Wow. This is a mind boggling... laughing adventure game of where guybrush threepwood has many adventures... of which im not telling you about because i dont want to ruin it.

If you ever meet a person that doesnt give monkey island a 5 star, tell them they have no sence of humor. This is the best game ever. Ever. Nothing comes close. I spend hours on the internet looking for things about it. I dream about it. I am the greatest fan, and i am now asking you to be my rival. Buy this game now and drastically change your life for the better. Love, Chris Hanson

Summary: These are the most entertaining games I have ever seen!
Review: These games take you into the world of Guybrush Threepwood, a young man who struggles in his quest to be a pirate, and meets friends and enemies along the way. I bought the games in seperate packs, before I knew about this. An incredible change, putting some of the best adventure games the world will ever see, together, in a pack. Guybrush is sure to make everyone laugh, on his never ending fight against the evil, disgusting, Ghost-Zombie Pirate LeChuck.

When you play these great games by the great company, LucasArts, you will have the time of your life. I had a little trouble in these games, but when you're stuck, someone standing around will help you along the way. One thing's for sure, these are adventure games that you'll never forget, and hopefully, they'll inspire you to buy other games from the company, LucasArts Entertainment. This is a must-have for all adventure gamers.

Summary: Sorry they discontinued
Review: These were the best games I've ever played! All three were hilarious with their jokes and puns. I'm only sorry that this item is no longer sold so that other people can't see how Guybrush Threepwood first started.

Summary: Thank you, thank you, LucasArts
Review: This collection was simply the right thing at the right time. Just when I couldn't find these games for sale anywhere (and was just fixing to buy used copies on eBay), this collection came out with the first 3 games packaged up together. A godsend!

As for the games, they are simply some of the best ever produced.

Don't be put off by age of these games. While the first two are older technology, they are still very playable even now, because of the wit and imagination that went into them. The third uses more modern animation, and has a strong visual impact in addition to being a good game.

Only use the Mega-monkey setting if you want a pretty hard game. You may find yourself being forced to scour the web for hints!

Summary: A perfect collection
Review: This is an excellent value; putting the first three titles in the Monkey Island series (The Secret of Monkey Island; Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge; The Curse of Monkey Island) in one low priced box.

Since finding The Secret of Monkey Island way back in 1990 or '91 I've been hooked (anyone remember the pirate wheel?). These games are wonderfully witty, exciting, challenging, and just plain fun. Trade insults with the sword master of Mêlée Island! Discover the secrets of Big Whoop! Marry a governor! As you follow Guybrush Threepwood through his various misadventures you will have as much fun as anyone ever thought possible.

LucasArts truly had a winner with these Monkey Island games and they definitely deserve a spot on your hard drive. There's no better way to discover, or relive, an infatuation with Guybrush Threepwood and his crazy life.
