Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I just have the demo and its my favorite game. The fact you must manually bail from a blackhawk and the AA gun might tear apart your parachute is soooo realistic its scary! I can't wait to get it!
Rating: Summary: Worth being gold! Review: I just recently bought 2 games this past week. One is Medal of Honor and the second is this one, Operation Flashpoint Gold. I made my decision based on reviews here at amazon.com. I am very dissapointed with Medal of Honor for being able to get shot in the head a dozen times and still live and yet get bit by a dog 3 to 4 times and be able to die. However.....This game is by far worth being gold. The weather, the sound, the vehicles. The sounds of the bullets flying past your ears barely missing a fatal hit to your death. One of my favorites about this game is that AI. Unlike "Medal of Honor" and so many other lazily made war games, you can kill an enemy soldier and one of his buddies will "notice" it! If you hide yourself well enough, they can't see you. If they walk around and see you near them, they will shoot. If you haven't played this game. PLAY IT! Better yet, BUY IT! It's worth every penny! Save your money from Medal of Honor. No matter what any of your friends say about the LAN/Networking play of it. Tell them you are going to get a "real" game that you can do more with over a network/LAN party! ;) added 02/12/2003: Just wanted to add the fact of how cool, fun and easy it is to add and make your own mission. Not to mention the fact that there are so many downloadable add ons you can put in there too. Also if you love flying, driving, and boating, you'll like this. Take advantage of building your own missions. Cause it's worth it. Get tired of a mission. Make a new one! Great, isn't it?
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: I've had this game for a while now and it's so good i can't stop playing it! Between the awsome graphics and the huge envirment with the ability to do what ever you whant, be careful beacuse you might think your in a real war! When i say do any thing you whant I mean anything. You can do anything from walking to driving a 5 ton truck to commanding an M1A1 to flying an A10. I've always been a fan of war games and I tell you this is buy far the best. ... No game i mean no game i worth buying over this game!
Rating: Summary: Best war game I've ever played Review: In a nutshell, this game rocks! I have yet to find anything annoying about the game except for the occasional slowdowns because im running on an athlon 750, but its worth buying more then any war game out there today. The only reason I say this is because even the single player is a blast to play, very realistic to the point of sweaty palms and increasd heartrate. I even find myself moving my body around in real life while playing trying to duck and stuff. I have yet to encounter a war sim that has such atmosphere. Total freedom here in this game and very good training missions. You gain a feel for this game unlike any other. This is probably the only game I will give 5 stars to. Its DEFINITELY WORTH THE BUY.
Rating: Summary: One of the best... Review: In my opinion this has to be one of the things that any gamer who even remotely enjoys action/first person shooters must own. This is the most in-depth game ever in this genre. You can fly, drive, snipe, lead, and any other thing any real soldier could. This is the best tactical sim. ever. Also the game has a very in depth story-line, which is one of the best, next to Dues-Ex. I enjoy almost any kind of game, but this is one of my top 3. Probably number 1. The designers are Czech, and they realistically modeled the speech. All of the Russian is pronounced correctly and the statements make sense. This is another game in which you must "stop n' drop" to have a chance in a fire-fight. Also most of the fire-fights go on at long distances, in which the enemy is barely in sight. The weapons are modeled realistically, and there is a huge variety. I always drop the M-16 and grab an ak (more stopping power). Wounds are realistically modeled. There is also a large variety of transports, tanks, copters, and a plane. With the gold upgrade, there are some new things and a new 20 mission campaign.
Rating: Summary: You Like War? You'll Love This!!! Review: Ok, to start out this game is one of the best war games ever. At first I downloaded the demo for this peice of work at happypuppy.com and I loved it. If I was to compare this game to others I would say it is a mix between SoCom: Navy Seals and Medal Of Honor. This game has a tremendous amount of weapons you can us ranging from an Ak47, to a M-60, to a rocket propelled grenade launcher (RPG). This game also has a hell of a lot of vehicles you can drive. Imagine being able to command a tank, to driving a jeep, to piloting an apache, or even paratrooping behind enemy lines. Also when starting a campaign you can choose the face/body/voice you want to use during the campaign. This game has extensive warfare. Realistic 1-2 shot kills, medics, and engineers. You may have to take out a bunch of Commie's controlling a small town to using mines to take out a tank convoy. Whatever it is this game has got it covered. This game is one of the best wargames I've seen... EVER! I just can't stop telling you how great this game is. All in all, this game is one worth spending your $... on. It's like your in the war. I can't tell you how many endless nights I have been playing this game. This game also has mission creator and multiplayer. 4 words of advice, BUY THIS GAME!
Rating: Summary: The Game that the Army actually uses to train Soldiers Review: Operation Flashpoint started its life in the Czech Republic as a solider training Virtual Reality application and was soon taken over by Illusion Software and developed into a fully fledged real time war game. So why not see what sort of stuff the military have concocted to train their men? OF plays every bit as good as this type of realism suggests! OF is simply - you are solider, here is what a war is like. Go play. The game is NOT like Medal of Honour or Doom. Even though it has first person/ third person modes and plays like a first person shooter it is more akin to MS Flight Sim in that everything is hyper realistic from the weapons, platoons, soldiers, divisions, operations manuals, commands and objectives. Most of the objects in the maps are destructible including the buildings and the forests! You can run down a field with 100 soldiers and take on a platoon of tank, air crafts and enemy soldiers and even get blown up in the process by a shell flying in your direction (shaking the earth and creating giant holes in the ground!). You can even get wounded and end up crawling along the ground needing a medic fast. Oh no! The medic is dead! Now what to do? You can issue fifty commands to your team. You can take on the role of any type of soldier (Engineer, Commander, Sniper, Machine Gunner, Pilot and much more) and you can do anything, like blow up a score of the enemy with some land mines you have planted while you hide in the bush watching it all happen (hehehe), snipe a whole platoon from behind a rock, climb into a tank and drive it around or into a jet or a helicopter or even the enemy bomber! This is the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City of army games. This game is so operationally realistic that it will blow your mind. To compare this game to Counter-Strike is a way off the mark. CS is just a small maps, with limited teams, and the objective is to frag your way into winning or plant the bomb or rescue the hostages. CS is a great multiplayer game and I play it a lot but it is certainly nothing like OF! And OF still has not been beat in terms of realism. The A.I in this game is amazing! In the map editor you can choose the A.I skill (six levels) of each individual enemy unit or soldier! The big plus is the bonus map editor where you can create your own battles and objectives. There is nothing else like it and because of the 'easy' map editor the lifespan of this game is infinitive. I have created missions in less than ten minutes that I can play all day long - and do! The only downside to this game is that it has a massive learning curve and the graphics are not exactly ground breaking stuff, but they are still very good. You will have to play this game on and off for at least a week before you become familiar with everything and that is when the game really takes off. I mean you can literally run away from your platoon, steal a boat, go for a cruise, attack some non-mission critical platoon, steal their helicopter and come back later to see how your buddies are doing. Maybe they killed all the bad guys? Maybe they are all dead? Maybe some are dead and others are wounded and in need of treatment. Go get a medic! Revive your crew! Order them to board the helicopter you stole. Fly back to base. Get more gear. Fight on! The bottom line is that once you have played all the missions learn the game editor. You can find the manual on-line and you will be up and running with it in a day. The editor is one of the easiest I have ever used and turns this game into a 6 star value for money experience like no other. Operation Flashpoint is a landmark in game design. Do not underestimate it.
Rating: Summary: Get in there soldier and FIGHT!!! Review: Ordinarily I'm not a big fan of PC games. Most of my gaming needs are met by the Playstation 2 and I'm not a big fan of first person shooters. But someone happened to recomend this game called Operation Flashpoint to me. Not for nothing, but I'm really glad I took my friends advice. This is, hands down, one of the best PC games you'll ever play. There's a ton of variety, the graphics are great, and the controls are relatively easy to manage. The action is centered around a "what if" scenario. The year is 1985 and you are Private David Armstrong of the United States Army ( just one of several characters you'll control). Your squad is on the island of Everon and it's under Soviet attack. Throughout the game you have to defend yourself and your squad, whether it's infantry, tanks, or helicopters. This game literally puts you right in the middle of combat. You'll hear bullets whizzing past your ears, and practically smell the diesel fuel from the tank engines. The graphics are extremely lush and the landscapes are expansive and really give you the feeling that you are in this densely wooded European landscape. Trees, houses, and even mountains dot the country side. The only problem I had with the graphics is that in third person mode, the characters movements while running look very "unatural". But that can be easily forgiven. Also there are two massive upgrade patches you'll need to install. Best to find a friend with broad band and put them on a CD for safe keeping. The controls are relatively easy for a PC game. Squad commands can be a little confusing but your squad will fight independantly if they need to, unlike in games such as Rainbow Six. Also a flight stick might be needed to make the helicopter and air plane modes a little easier. You can drive vehicles, fly airplanes. Need a ride? No problem. Just grab that jeep the enemy abandoned. There's alot of interaction with various elements in the game world which makes the experience more enjoyable. Undoubtebly one of the best features of this game is that the game engine is very flexible. There are a ton of great addons availble on the internet. When you install the game, it even creates an Addons folder for easy instalation. Helicopters, weapons, new units, even buildings are all available with a quick search of the internet. The only knock on this game is that the multiplayer mode is very frustrating. The gameplay is uneven at times, and it takes a while to find the right multiplayer mode. This game is definitley worth the price you'll pay for it. Grab your M16 soldier and report for duty. Time to kick but and take names with Operation Flashpoint.
Rating: Summary: Accurate, BUT. Review: This game is very immersive. However. the terrain is usually close to featureless--the interface dosen't work well, it actually GETS IN YOUR WAY, and the graphics are worse than Counterstrike. That aside i'd say that the game is Ghost Recon's only competition.
