Rating: Summary: Really Cool Review: I played this game at a friends house and found the graphics gorgeous. I just love the gameplay and even though the AI can be a little buggy it is incredible to see my fellow officers checking rooms and laying down cover fire. And I have played the same levels several times because it truly is never the same game twice. I played the rogue spear demo and found the graphics not nearly as detailed (perhaps the full version of rogue spear is better). Also rogue spears planning system can be as annoying as hell, and while it offers some advantages, I think it is more realistic to have a team going in on only minor info. It also really increases the intensity, whereas in Rogue Spear you can find a terrorist in the exact same spot every time. I think this is a great buy.
Rating: Summary: Swat 3 vs. R6 Review: I started my 1st person shooter experience with rainbow six, a classic, revolutionary game. Since then, as technology etc... has advanced, I have been looking for a new game in that genre. So at some point i decided to give Swat3 a try, i had never heard of it but the box looked pretty cool. The game is great. good realism, gameplay, sound, controlling your team etc... its downfalls are as follows: choppy (prob because of my computer, not the game), you cannot see your gun, which is very disappointing, the teammates are dumb and like to get shot, and hardly ever shoot back, and the overall graphics of the characters is too cartooney- animated looking. these are some real problems but overall none of these things matter when you are in dynamic mode, stacking up to breach into the next room of armed terrorists. overall its worth the money, but i did get sick of it after a couple months. If only the graphics and good parts of red storm's games (R6 and Rogue Spear) and the good overall gameplay and interface as well as plot of Swat 3 could be combined to form some ultimate 1st person shooter... that would be the best!
Rating: Summary: SWAT 3: CLOSE TO THE BEST GAME EVER Review: I was skeptical at first. I wasn't sure whether or not to buy this. Some people said it was the best and others said it was the worst. I went in order of my instinct for a good shooting/strategy game. First I went for Delta force 2. It was decent. The graphics were ok and the missions left something to be desired. Then I went for the new rogue spear. That was a great game. It had strategy, great graphics, and good sound. But I still had this urge to try SWAT 3. So I got my guts and tried it. Let me tell you... SWAT 3 is by far the best game I have ever played. With over 15 missions to choose from. The graphics are astonishing. They are extremely crisp and clear. (I do recommend you have 3d card, though, or else it will probably lag.)The sounds are amazing too. They're very realistic. In this game you basically take control of 4 other swat officers. You are the swat leader. You command them to do everything. You can tell them to do anything, from arrest someone to knock down a door. Each mission you get is very unique in it's own way. You go from a private residential house to a church to a convention center to an airport tower to a dance club and that's less than half of them. The ONLY downside to this game is that you can't see your gun.... but who cares, everything else in the game makes up for that! This game is the best game I have ever played and anyone who likes a good RPG/strategy/shooting/law enforcement game is urged to buy this one of a kind game.
Rating: Summary: Great for the would be Swat member with a different calling Review: I've got to say that I've always had a fascination with Swat work, but alas I'm more of a music minded person than anything. I believe this game has given me a "taste" of maybe what it would've been. I'm a police augmentee and where I work when I'm called, nothing exciting happens. In the game, as the Element Leader, the game is such that you need to constantly think about the "morale" of your team members. If you make stupid decisions, you lose a bit o' respect and based on a declining leadership score, your team members are a bit reluctant to act. Thus the pressure is on to be decisive and effective. The variety of scenarios: store front, bank, cathedral, residence, hit close to home as I've often thought about what it might be like to try to take on situations that I see on 'Cops', 'Inside Report', etc. Warning: It's ADDICTIVE. In fact, I'm gonna go play it right now! End of transmission, Dragon, clear.
Rating: Summary: Swat 3: Is it worth it? Review: I, like many others, are used to playing Rogue spear and Unreal tournament and half-life type games. So I wasn't too sure if I should get this game or not. Every reviewer said it was hot stuff! So, I took a gamble and bought it.I have a 450 MHz with 128 MB of RAM and a VooDoo 2 card - the game works well and smooth. no complaints about that. however, it's really different from those other shoot em' up games. For one, you don't just go in and shoot people like mad. It's like there's hostage situations and kidnapping situations and you have to rescue people and stuff. The bad guys are really sharp shoooters though - that's what I didn't like. They shoot really good and your back up guys are really dumb sometimes. Like when you tell them to throw a flashbang, sometimes they'll throw it on the wall and it'll bounce back at your team. Oh yeah, another thing was the play is different from those other games I mentioned. First off, it's not you go and shoot people up. You're actually a leader of a team of 4. You tell them what to do (ex: like open door, flash bang the room, mirror corners, clear room, etc..) and you do it by pressing the #1-9 on your keyboard. So you don't actually get right into action - your team does, But you can move and shoot and participate if you want. But like I said, your partners aren't the brightest. One thing I didn't like was that some of the missions take FOREVER! Like there's this sewers map and it is SOOOOOo long and hard. It'll take you at least 40 minutes to complete it. That map is so big and hard! And one annoying thing was that I had to rescue some hostages, but this ONE LAST HOSTAGE was hiding in this really obscure spot and I couldn't find the guy. I had to literally go inch by inch on every wall and search it. That was so annoying and dumb and it took me forever! Also, if you choose not to kill the bad guys, you can throw like tear gas or flashbang them (useless though!) and you can handcuff them, if they choose to put down their weapons that is. But as the levels get harder, the bad guys don't even put down their guns when you throw tear gas at them or try to scare them by shooting around them. So it becomes a KILL KILL KILL mission as the mission progress's. It's not bad overall and Sierra is planning to make a multiplayer version for this game, which I know will enhance the game play by 10x! Oh yeah, did I mention this game doesn't have multiplayer? But Sierra is giving out a free download when the multiplayer expansion becomes available in the Fall of 2000. But I don't think it's worth [the $] though to be honest. Thanks for reading.
Rating: Summary: Amazing: As Close to Real SWAT Action as You Can Get! Review: If you (like me) were one of the few unfortunate people that made the mistake of buying SWAT 2, and are hesitating about buying this one, let me tell you something: the only error with this game would be not to buy it. Swat 3 is something special. I can only say: WOW! I never really liked shooter games, untill I played this game. First of all, this isn't a shoot-at-will-as-you-walk game. You don't go around killing all the suspects and terrorist you may face. This is a SWAT game and as in real life the main objective is to preserve life. You have to lead your team ensuring their safety, rescuing hostages and arresting suspects. There is enough action to keep you entertained for a long time. You want action? How about trying to stop a group of terrorists from blowing up the airplanes flying over LAX? Or rescuing church and government leaders from the hands of political extremists? The most important thing about this great game is that is easy to play. You dont waste a lot of time putting your team together and selecting the equipment you will use (like in the mediocre SWAT 2). You are put in command of a SWAT team consisting of a 5 officers divided in two teams, one blue and one red. You are the element leader and must give orders to your officers with a very simple command menu that allows you to act quickly if the game action requieres you to do so (and believe me it constantly does). The use of the artificial intelligence (AI) is great. You can play a mission over and over and the bad guys will be hiding in different places, the hostages will not be trapped in the same rooms, and the suspects won't react the same way. For example, you found a man in a bathroom that lowered his gun as soon as you told him to? Dont be fooled, the next time you see him he may blow you away! This is important to remember because if you are in career mode your injured officer wont be available for your next assignment. This game is simply amazing. I never expected Sierra to create such an entertaing and challenging game after the failure of SWAT and SWAT 2. I almost forgot, buy the Elite Edition, not this one. SWAT 3 EE has new features, missions and new stuff that makes the game more challenging and fun to play. The only way to get closer to the action of a SWAT squad would be to join the L.A.P.D. BUY THIS INCREDIBLE GAME. YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Rating: Summary: As close as you'll get to the real thing Review: If you like Delta Force, Rainbow 6, Hidden and Dangerous then but this now as it is the best of the lot! Its intuitive and fast learning. The control method is brilliant and the AI some of the best of its kind. The graphics are awesome (even in software which is good to see) and missions are varied and big. This is a very rewarding game and rates up with HL, SS2 and Thief as one of my fave PC games every. Its very challanging but you wont be dissopointed. You'll keep playing til you finish the missions (13 in all I seem to remember) - and theres no Fast Save you have to conquer each mission (no easy task!). The realism and atmosphere is make this game first class, the sound effects and touches add to this. Its the closet you'll get to becoming a SWAT member (unless you are one already!)

Rating: Summary: Delightful Artificial Intelligence! Review: Knowing a little bit of SWAT tactics myself (not much, but enough to know they're authentic), I loved seeing how much they had researched the movements that real SWAT teams use -all the programmers who had something to do with AI had to have some training-. When I first started up the demo (I have to admit, all I have played is the demo), I almost squeeled with delight when I saw the artificial teamwork. The way they stacked up on the store front glass door, and started yelling at the terrorist within -and when he didn't comply they shot throught the door- the way they slammed the door open, and started combing the room -which was the best part- by searching all the corners in just the way a real SWAT member would. The fact that you could have them slowly open a door, and "mirror" a room to check for susspects... the way they entered a room by splitting up and going to both corners and looking several directions while doing so, while the rear gaurd stayed behind in the other room watching your back. The way they slowly walked down a corridor, leaning around corners to make sure it was safe to go on, checking with you periodically saying "Element is behind you." Was all delightfully amazing. One complaint. That is that the graphics engine seemed a bit slow (I have a K62 3D Now! 300 Mhz. with 64 MB RAM and a Voodoo Banshee with 16 MB vid Mem.). The reflections in mirrors being software rendered didn't help. Other than that, it is a GREAT game... and I would recommend it about Rouge Spear, seeing that it is more realistic since the whole point isn't to KILL the suspect, and THEN save the hostage.
Rating: Summary: Great game Review: One of the best of it's type, matched only by rogue spear and delta force 2 comes close but they all leave specops:green berets in the dust.
