Rating: Summary: Good in the beginning, but at the end it gets repetitive Review: Dont get me wrong I played this game for hours straight but I got bored of it quickly. The action is superb and the graphics are extremely well done although I think they could have still done a better job with it.However I didnt like the multiplayer part of it because On my comp. it lags even though I have 500mhz, 128mb, and cable. I would wait till prices go down or something.
Rating: Summary: Great game, but way to short! Review: This game was fun, but I beat it in 6 hours. That is way to short fora. . . game. Wait till the price goes down.
Rating: Summary: Quake, Half Life all this [lacks] if you compare it to SoF Review: Soldiers of Fortune,,,,, uh where do i start this is a great game the graphics are so pure and clean the terrorists are well animated, the guns are cool and the sound is unbelivable, i liked the "low violence version" but the game it self is Incredibly realistic and Great if you liked Half Life or any of the Quakes your gonna love this one to the bottom of your hearts, you wont regret buying this one.
Rating: Summary: As good as I expected! Review: SOF was the latest game I'd become interested in after hearing about it and reading the gamer reviews. Having a decent system to play it with, I anticipated the arrival of the UPS truck. I had a problem installing it. The tech support site was in my local area so I decided to call. Geeze! Problem solved in 5 minutes... even an old goat like me can learn something. UPS monitoring software was conflicting with the install only. The game itself has graphics comparable or superior than Half Life. The advantage is the install will autodiscover and preset the defaults to the best display parameters. No more manual hardware config. The gameplay will keep me up until the wee hours of the morning. Takes a great game to do that. Yes, as one reviewer pointed out earlier, the game is difficult. Its supposed to be. It is not impossible but will provoke dialog from your extended vocabulary! :) There doesn't appear to be a lot of mental twist or puzzles as of yet, by the halfway point, but the game itself is a great classic shootemup! No crashes or irregularities to report. Their are some very funny death scenes (yours) where the bad guys act just like real life humans! I'd personally rate it a 4.5 star Don
Rating: Summary: Would you like to know why you should get this game. Review: The 3dmr is primarily a single player map review site so I onlylooked at the single player aspect of the game there. Once the map and mod community gets going, you can find user made expansions at the 3dmr, I'll be sifting through the garbage so you won't have to. I'll take a look at the multiplayer aspect of SoF here. There are many different ways to play, including Standard, Cap the flag, realistic and assassin. The later without a doubt being the most innovative. The other 3 are pretty self explanatory, so lets talk about assassin. Basically, the rules go like this: You spawn on a server and you are given a target. Your sole mission and only way of scoring is to kill this player. Killing others will only lower your score. When you kill this guy, he is assigned to kill you from then on and you are given a new target. If you keep killing your targets you could have the whole server of full of people trying to kill you. If you kill the people trying to kill you, you get points and you get them off your back. This really has to be experienced. It's a bit slower than regular death match because you don't shoot everything that moves, but it's so much more fun. Quake3 is so boring. I would say this game is better than Half-Life in many respects. As a former console gamer, I know the joy of precise body hit mechanics from playing Goldeneye. There is nothing like aiming a perfect head shot and being rewarded by the enemy actually dying immediately as a result. The gore is there as you know, but I don't feel that it's some kind of gimmick. I think it's a natural development from allowing precision when shooting. You will not be dissapointed with this game. END
Rating: Summary: A True 3D Masterpiece Review: SoF is by far the greatest 3D shooter to come out since Half-Life. No 3D shooter even comes close to beating it out except for the already mentioned Half-Life. The game plunges you right into the action, you don't have any long introduction or anything, you bust out into the sewers and blow the snot out of a New York subway gang. The violence level in this game is a major plus. You can blast your enemies anywhere and they will do anything from having their heads explode to grabbing their manhood and moaning, all in an extremely realistic manner. They even limp around if shot in the leg, which was a really cool effect considering that that is how it should be. Then if you shoot them in the arms or legs with a big weapon, they will no longer be attached to the enemies torso. Unforunately, gibbing left something to be desired, but it is made up for with the exit wounds! The multiplayer game is SLOW, and the long load times make this a game that surely is not for the multiplayer fanatic. The single player game is on the edge of perfection. While not as deep as Half-Life, this is a very realistic story about 4 missing nukes and a personal vendetta that really seems to be at the end but then you are in a whole new level, with a long load time as usual, but it is well worth it! Overall, this is a game that no gamer should be without. This game truly shines in single player and if you ever get into multiplayer after the load times, the realistic deathmatch mode is great.
Rating: Summary: Buggiest game I've ever played Review: I have never had this bad an experience with any game. The thing crashes ALL the time and get this, you have to install it in a priviledged account, but have to play it in a non-priviledged account. Ouch! I also somehow got locked into parental discretion mode. Since I did not switch it to that I obviously did not have the password to change it back. When it works, it is fun. What isn't so fun is to spend 45 minutes getting through the game, and have it quit without warning. The one thing I suppose that does not help is that I am running it under Windows 2000, which in effect is NT5.
Rating: Summary: First Person Action Returns from a long hiatus Review: With a long list a horrible First Person Action games including the never to be released Dikatana, the sad Kingpin, and the horrific Blood II, it's a pleasure to see a really find, hardcore, and all together viciously wonderful first person shootem up game come across my computer screen. Soldier of Fortune, which uses a totally revamped version of the Quake II engine and which is co-produced and released by Activision and Raven Software, is not mearly a combination of previous action games. It in fact takes the game type to a whole new level by adding in some serious real world guns and putting you in real terrorist situations. Although you have to handle them with very rambo-like tactics, the action is fast paced and the cutscenes weave in nicely with the shooting down of the bad guys. However, is it too much to ask to have their lips move when they talk? The skizy: you are a member of the Army Special Forces, sent in to stop a terrorist who has stolen nuclear weapons and who plans to use them in a few special locations. However, the bad dude who leads the terrorists doesn't plan to be taken down easily. So your job is to follow him and take him down along with his compatriots and recover the nukes. Although the story runs a tad thin in some places, the graphics are stellar. When you shoot someone in the arm, you really hit their arm, and laugh at them as gibblets (individual body parts) fly all over. What also makes this game great is that the AI, which is usually what makes or breaks a game like this, is beautiful. When you're shooting a guy and aiming for his upper body, he will duck or hide near the adjacent wall, only to peer out and take a couple of quick shots. The downsides: some missions can get real tough real fast, and with a multitude of badies who all have itchy trigger fingers, one level can go from being a half-life like map with few enemies to a UT type map with a deathmatch like feel to it. However, you got the guns, use'em. Hardware: Plain an simple, you must have an accelerator card to play this game. The graphics do not look nearly as good with only software rendering. Besides you get to see more of the blood that way. Also the higher resolutions can quickly chew on the memory card so it's best to have a computer with a fast cpu. IF you have a computer lower than 300 Mhz, don't expect the card to make up the difference. The sound in this game is very good. Each gun has it's own firing sound which seperates it from its bretheren and the music, that rockish techno beat stuff can really get your heart pumping. But it get's even crazier when you turn it off. Recommend that you have a good sound card if you want to hear all the bells and whistles. What else is there to say: If you don't like blood, DON'T GET THIS GAME, it's right up there with Kingpin level on the gore factor. Also, don't expect much replay value, like most regular shootem up's (not including Half-Life) once it's beat, it's shelfed. The Highs: Great graphics, AI system is strong, very detailed locals, and the wonderful sniper rifle...ooo! The Lows: They don't move their mouths, low replay value, didn't get much from Multiplayer, No action plot will ever beat that of Half-Life. What does it all mean: If you have all the rambo movies, love continuous action, are a gun freak, and just love action games, there is none better. If you're looking for replay and multiplayer value, stick to Half-Life and Unreal Tournament. Revuman, Peace!
Rating: Summary: Best Thing Since Half-Life! Review: As of now, this is possibly the most realistic 3D shooter I've ever played. No kids allowed here! (There's a Wal-mart (censored) version, but it's not as fun) The graphics are excellent, and everything could have happened. Your objective is to destroy 4 nukes that were stolen. No aliens, zombies, plasma guns, or super death rays are in here! The weapons are even modeled after real-life ones, for crying out loud! Of course, the funniest thing is the "gore-zones." Depending on where you shoot a guy, a gun shot or a knife mark will appear there. Blowing off half of a guy's head with a shotgun can be the UNTIMATE stress reliever. Sure, it's more violent that even Kingpin, but in SoF, an F-word isn't inserted casually into every conversation. However, SoF is not perfect. The AI can be quite stupid at times, with people running in circles, or ignoring you entirely. Plus, in the later winter stages, there is a fog which can get really annoying when the AI can see you, but you can't see them. Other than those problems, I think SoF is an otherwise flawless game.
