Summary: This is a First person Shooter, and I love it.
Review: First thing I have to say is Everyone who mentions Half Life in a review is a moron. I admit that game is good but if you like it so much what are you doing playing a new game. Sorry if this offends you but this game is not supposed to be Half Life. Thank you.

Second I love this game. The Graphics and the story is pretty good. The GHOUL system is great because you can shoot different parts of the body. I love when I play games and shooting a guy in the head will cause more damage then a shot in the arm. that is just common sense. but what if I shoot them in the foot? they will still be hurt and probably hop around like mad in Real Life as in This game.

The Story is great. you have to see it to understand, but yes it is the usual mad guy who wants to blow up the world. The Problem is that that story is used alot in HollyWood but not nearly enough in Games.

The Sound is ok. But nothing special.

And Finally The gameplay makes you feel like A soldier of Fortune, not a Infinate strength grunt. You play this game alone, there is no help from a partner (in the Single player). Also you can have only a number of Guns in your back pack and a number of items. Plus there are many different factors on the skill levels. each level is progressivly harder. And then there is the Sound issue. If you shoot rockets at everyone won't they notice? well not in most games. but in the hardest two difficulties you will notice you have to try to be quiet (which is hard but possible) That is what makes this game, the innovation in Gameplay. Look beyond the Blood and see innovation which have never been done before....thanks.

Summary: it was fun, but not that fun
Review: yes, ill admit that it was a fun game, but i wouldnt really know because i only played it for abour an hour before it started freezing up on me, and then randomly freezing my system until i had it removed. it would have been fun if not for the freezing thing, and the fact that i had to install some driver to get my videocard to work (voodoo 3) and that its 900 (900!) megabytes to install. dont but this unless you want to waste your money, get a headache from dealing with the software problems, and have tons and tons of available memory space, i uninstalled it and now it gathers dust [alot of money] for 60 minutes of fun, what a great deal

Summary: The best game i ever played.
Review: The graphics are great, It looks like it is real life action and it feels like you are there fighting the gang wars. There is a great choice of guns to choose from, the sniper rifle is my favorite weapon. There is also great sound effects. The game deserves to be the best game of the year.

Summary: This game rocks
Review: You know, i played a lot of first person shooters (even the old stuff like Blood (1) and Duke Nukem 3D or the verry old stuff like Wolfenstein 3D or Rise of the Triad)and let me tell ya' this game rocks. The weapons are cool and the blood looks realistic but the AI of the enemies is pretty bad. But if you play in hard mode you'll have a lot of fun. But beware no kids allowed here (mature teens should be ok)

Summary: Not quite in the same league as Half Life
Review: Soldier of Fortune is a smart, graphically good looking and easy to get into game but doesn't quite come up to the masterpiece that is Half Life. It's not as smooth and the levels are too short to get completely involved in the atmosphere of a particular location.

It's more like the old "Operation Wolf" arcade came but in first person. The most enjoyable part is being able to use the sniper rifle to dispatch baddies from a distance is great fun.

The best part of the game is the variety in the locations. You start off in New York, move onto a train traversing Russia at night, end up in Kosovo. There's a consistent plot between each scene too.

Small downside on the speed of your machine. Having the video card is okay but the 22KHZ 16-bit sound can be really jerky on a slower machine (Celeron 300A) with just a normal sound card. Which is a shame because the dynamic music really adds to the atmosphere.

The violence isn't *that* bad really!

Summary: Shoot, Blood, Run, : formula to Win this Mediocre Game
Review: This game by any standards is violent. But that's about all that I can say. Sure you can hit a guy in any of the 29 anatomical hit areas programmed into the game. Sure, it's fun to watch a guy holding a stub of his foot after you blew it away with a shotgun. But how many of these images would you really like to see for the next 4 hours until you finally realize this is just what this game was all about. Nothing else. Graphics: Nice OpenGL. Might cause some problems with GeForce 256 cards. Interface: in game save. easy to use multiplayer options. Gameplay: regular shoot-em up. very formulaic: shoot, blood, run. Do this for 4 hours and you'll finish the game. Weapons ballistics are not that real. Believe me... I know. AI: can be intimidating sometimes. Look before you walk into any area. Story: weak, bad guy wants to blow up world. Overall: You'll get tired of this game. If you want a good multiplayer experience though, get this game.

Summary: The Depths of Our Culture
Review: Brainless game and not half as violently graphic as everyone says, which, depending on why you're buying it, could be either positive or negative. But you'll laugh your ... off at the ridiculous macho cliches, all delivered quite seriously. I had trouble finishing the tutorial because I was rolling my eyes and wincing at the "dialogue" being delivered to me via my trainer, a Vietnam-vet-turned-bookstore-owner who, with olive drab jacket and headband, looks like a refugee from a Gary Busey movie. I knew I was in trouble when the in-box inserts featured a subscription offer for the magazine. These types of games just insult people's intelligence, but it should appeal to testosterone casualties or those suffering from severe brain trauma. But still, if this is your type of fun, wait until it hits the bargain bins.

Summary: Oh my Stars, 6 of em in fact
Review: This is the best. Blow arms, legs, heads, and you know whats off. This is a great shooter. There is no better action 1st person shooter on the market thats for sure. Though it does lack a good overall story line, and is a fairly easy and short game to beat its still a whole lot of fun. Lots of weapons and enemys and inocents too. Though your not supposed to shoot civies I like this game because unlike rogue spear you dont fail the mission for shooting them. Overall I give SOF 6 Stars this is one to have!

Summary: Just plain fun!
Review: Okay, let's cut the hype. This ain't Half-Life. Comparing this game to Half-Life is ludicrous. If this game is hamburger, then Half-Life is fillet mignon.

That said, it is an utterly fun game to play. Aside from the gore-point system, there really isn't much innovation in the game, but what it does do -- which is to provide a fun diversion where you blow the living **** out of enemies -- it does really well.

And don't get suckered into believing that this is a realistic shooter like Rouge Spear or SWAT 3. It isn't. Sure, your enemies can get killed by a well placed bullet to the head, but you, personally, walk around as through you were wearing an invisible tank. And that's just fine, because realism isn't what this game is about. This game is about being some sort of latter-day Rambo. On that level, it delivers in spades.

And yes, the game IS intended for mature audiences. And mature, as always, means having the sort of "maturity" where you smirk everytime you take some poor animated saps leg off at the hip. In otherwords, it's a game for the demented teenager that resides in (at least some of) us.

So yeah: but it, play it, have fun. It ain't fillet mignon, but sometimes you're just in the mood for some quick and cheap junk food.

Summary: I loved HALFLIFE and now I love this!
Review: I have played a lot of games. I can tell you that Soldier of Fortune is one of a kind. Some may disagree with me, but I say that it's the first realistic first person shooter next to maybe half life. I love the fact that if you shoot a guy in the leg, he hops around on one leg, and head shots are automatic death. I love the fact that when you cut a guy, there are actual slice marks and not bullet holes or nothing at all. I love the fact that there are 'actual' weapons to choose from instead.. say.. a worm shooter made out of an alien's spleen. Not to mention the great story line. When I look at a game like this compared to say, Quake 3.. I think, 'Why am I so bored with Quake3?' The reason is this.. Quake 3's single player stinks... If you want to enjoy it and many other games like it, you need a cable modem and play a decent deathmatch. However, Soldier of Fortune's single player mode was very well thought out with a planned storyline. The effect and suspense that the levels create is sometimes spooky... I am always catching myself tilting or moving my head so I can try to peek around that corner so I can see the bad guy, and then jumping when he appears behind me. If you want a game that doesn't require a cable modem to enjoy the game, soldier of fortune is a good bet.
