Rating: Summary: Serious Fun Review: Serious Sam is based around two different aspects, Fun and Intense Gameplay. This is a game that will be liked by any lover of first person shoot em ups. You travel ovr loads of different area ranging from Egypt to several distant planets. The main aim of the game is to stop Mental (an assasin), but i just spent most of my time going around shooting people, because its fun.
Rating: Summary: Unforgetable experience! Review: Serious Sam is a truly exceptional game. It has jaw dropping graphics and provides player with unlimited amounts of action. This game is built with Croteam's new graphics engine and it it looks unbelievable! Never before have I seen a game where such large beautifully textured spaces were used. Not only the levels are gigantic, the graphics run fast too. Incredible. Croteam did a wonderful job. The skies and the lense flares from the sun deserve A+ all by themselves. Curved surfaces, mirrors... I have no words! The gameplay and monsters are something unique too! Headless screaming kamikaze, headless gunners, and the hooved nightmare horses and bulls scared... me. You always have to face many enemies at once. I mean MANY!!! At one level I was faced with more than FIFTY skeletal horses AT ONCE (LITERALLY!!!!) it was scary. Weapons are cool too, though simple, they are done very well, especially the cannon. This game is not a sneaker or puzzle solver. It is just raw action, more action than in doom or any game. Shoot---reload--shoot---reload----rest----get more ammo---shoot....... Music........WOW, Serious Sam has very good music. Ethnic Egyptian beat with a tinge of rock, pop, and techno blend very well with the surroundings. Buy this game. You won't be sorry. Just the graphics and music are worth buying. And you're given an unlimited model and level editors with which you can create your own models and levels. Those Croatian geniuses sure did a good job on Serious Sam!
Rating: Summary: Take that ya faceless, soulless corporate Video games!!!! Review: If you're tired of the same old shooter games where you jump, shoot, sneak, jump, shoot... then get this game! Serious Sam throws out all the crap that shooter video games have become and gives you a game where you run and kill anything and everything. If you are like me, you do not enjoy games like Thief 2 where you must spend hours sneaking around looking for the right shaded pixel to walk on. And if you're like me, you think that this whole "awesome" 3d graphics for PC video games is highly overrated in games like No One Lives Forever (where human faces look like they are wrapped around rocks) then this game is for you. No sneaking, great graphics, and hours and days and weeks of fun fun fun! Best of all, you get a score! HA! To think it took 10 years for a gaming developer to think of this. Then there's the price... for this masterpiece of minimilist arcade type action. This game is the asteroids of first person shooters - level after level of the same thing but you still love it cuz it's hard and too much fun for one person to have.
Rating: Summary: Old Fashioned and Fun, Fun, Fun. Review: Serious Sam is more game for the money than any FPS in the last five years. The level details (eye candy) are excellent. The action is unrelenting and as you work through it you will be LOL at the gobs of monsters that just keep coming, e.g., Exploding guys that run at you screaming at the top of their lungs, Bad guys that carry their heads in their hands, a huge Ox like thing that is faster than a Corvette and will knock you a 100 feet in the air. There is a point in the game where you are tempted to grab a certain power-up. If you do nothing happens for a few seconds and them about a thousand screaming bad boys come at you from around the corner of a building. There were times where I was laughing so hard I couldn't shoot straight. If you are a veteran of first person shooters you know that most of the fighting takes place in confined areas. This is true in Serious Sam to some extent but many times you will have a big time fight in wide open spaces. If you love to run, jump, strafe and shoot you are going to have a ball. Careful though, all that light and space might put the zap on your head. We hard-core gamers just aren't used to so much roaming room. The interface is simple and you can bind your movement and hot-keys to your favorite configuration, no sweat. Most importantly you can save the game anytime and as many times as you like which is a feature that recently has been lost on some developers and publishers. It seems Croteam got it right when deciding to make a computer game the entire purpose of which is to have fun. Make no mistake this is not a break-through game. You won't find anything different. What you will find is an inexpensive game that will beg the question; Why did I spend fifty bucks last month for a game, that has a frustrating interface, does not support in-mission saves and because of all the dang bugs has left me wating for the proverbial "patch". Bottom line, buy Serious Sam it delivers! Atta boy Croteam.
Rating: Summary: Serious Sam is seriously funny (a-hem) Review: At a time when most first-person shooters turn towards greater realism in the gameplay, Serious Sam does pretty much the exact opposite thing, giving the player fast-paced action as you take on the Duke-Nukem-like character of Serious Sam and launch yourself against hordes (and hordes and hordes) of monsters. The graphics are lush. The settings are unique. The gameplay is nothing but fun.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely AWESOME! A must have! Review: Seroius sam is simply awesome, it is an absolute dominator! I had been anciously awaiting its arrival in stores, and when the day it was released finally came, I was not dissapointed! S.S.(serious sam) is the rivival of doom style action, it is amazingly intense, around every corner their is a new challenge awaiting you! With many raw-power weapons that spell out destruction for you, you can blast your way through the sleek foes that await you in the world of danger in S.S.! And that isn't all, S.S. is very challenging as well, the amount of foes that you face is incredible, from some views it might even be insane! S.S's specialty is ambush attacks, surprises pop out at you everywhere, you definitly will find yourself facing the floor plenty of times throughout this Serious game! And how much can I say about the graphics! S.S. really puts todays technology to its max with incredibly detailed inviorments focused on the Egyptian theme, jaw dropping eye candy, but dont spend too much time staring, or you will end up as part of the scenery. I could go on and on. Just look at the basics, Serious Sam is simply an awesome game! If you are a serious First person raw-shooter fan, you would be insane to miss out on this amazinfg game. WOW!
Rating: Summary: Have You Noticed Every Review has the word "Fun?" Review: There's a reason for that--this game is extremely (or should I say "seriously") fun. The graphics are pretty good, some monsters look cheesy, and some look great. But when there's more than you can count rushing you from all sides and from the air, you won't care. You'll just keep pulling the trigger. Serious Sam comes with some of that much missed Attitude that Duke Nukem brought to this genre a long time ago. There are humorous lines and nice touches through out. Unlike Duke Nukem and Quake 2 (and I loved those too) , you don't have those puzzles where you're running around for a key, or a hint or something--any puzzle is made pretty simple as the point here is to shoot and kill. There's not much quiet time...its just more and more monsters coming at you. I somewhat agree with others on the Network games, but its mixed. Sometimes I'll join and one will be unplayable. Other times I'll join and it works great. I have a cable modem by the way. I've noticed Co-op mode is pretty fun, and brings out even MORE monsters than you thought possible. Also, it doesn't hurt that if you die, you can keep going. I bought this game at a local retailer (sorry Amazon) for 14.99 plus tax. For the money, you cannot beat this game at all, period. If you like action games, if you liked old arcade games, heck if you like any kind of game, you'll love this.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful engine and reasonably fun game Review: The game, itself, is pretty much a Doom/Duke Nukem clone, in terms of play style and "attitude" (right down to the smart quips that Sam occasionally offers), which means that it has all the strengths and weaknesses inherant in that style of FPS. But it's a D/D that's been updated with the best graphics engine that I've ever seen on a game, period. Indeed, if you go to Croteam's page, you'll see that they're pitching the engine as hard as they're pitching the game, and I don't blame them. Really, this is one beautiful game. The levels are physically huge (as in you can, literally, see for miles of *real* terrain), the colors are crisp, the lighting effects are beyond unbelievable, and the physics engine is so impressive that it has to be seen to be believed. Of course, such graphical power comes as a price. I have a VooDoo3 and a P2 450. I can play the game on this system (after downloading the WickedGL driver), but I need to play it on the "Speed" settings, which basically turn down the graphics to their minimum settings. It still looks good, but I compared it against a friend's machine, which is a 1GH P3 with a maxed out GForce2 card. The difference is like the difference between a Hanna-Barbara cartoon and a Disney epic. Aspects of the game were practically photo-realistic. It looked even better with his 3D glasses. If you're running anything slower and less capable than my system (see above), I really wouldn't recommend buying this game; you'll just frustrate yourself. If you have a system that's adequate, such as mine, I think it's worth it. If you have a graphics powerhouse, then buy this game, if for no other reason than to show off the capabilities of your system, because there's no other game on the market that will do as good of a job.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Serious Sam is an awesome game, and nearly an unbeatable bargain. The gameplay focuses primarily on fighting lots of monsters at once, usually in large, open arena style areas. But don't worry about it getting repetitive, as there are a few bosses and many smaller indoor and outdoor areas to keep things varied and interesting. The graphics are very nice overall. The levels use the available technology very well, with the desert areas being a highlight with truely vast planes and believable sand dunes and hills, and the city areas and courtyards with towering structures and buildings. The game is also a must have for anyone on a LAN, as the game not only has the obligatory deathmatch but it has the return of cooperative play. Going through the game with your buddies taking on literally hundreds of monsters at a time is a blast! Overall this is an incredible game, and a must have for any Doom fan or anyone else who likes intense nonstop action. I wholeheartidly recommend this game. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: A SERIOUS bargain Review: Serious Sam is not the best FPS out there. It will never be Half-Life or No One Lives Forever. But it is the probably the best budget-priced game I have ever bought. You play as Serious Sam, some crazy tank-top wearing dude who is sent back in time to save the world. He travels back to Egyptian times to defeat the would be conquerors of the universe. OK well the story isn't all that great....but the game is. The graphics are suprisingly really good as well as the sound. As far as gameplay...it's basically everything and the kitchen sink thrown at you wave after wave after wave. Some of the enemies are very well done, especially the headless kamikazees who carry bombs and come running at you screaming (how they scream without heads is beyond me). The weapons, well theres 10 of em...nothing really revolutionary except for the "cannon" which is pretty darn interesting. It's basically a hand held cannon which shoots huge cannonballs clearing everything in its path, pretty destructive! Though most of the time you will probably opt for the rocket launcher...at least that was my weapon of choice. The length of the game though is pretty short...you can finish it the same day you buy it (I didn't eat though and my eyes felt like they were bleeding from lack of sleep...so lets say 2 days). Fortunately there are many secrets hidden throughout the game and it's just darn fun enough to keep you playing again and again. If you've got the money buy Half-Life or No One Lives Forever. But if you're a bit shy or have a little left over for something extra, pick up this bargain of a title, you wont regret it! I'm SERIOUS
