Rating: Summary: One heck of a blast... Review: Serious Sam, the only man who can save the Earth, makes his first appearance. Serious Sam is a nice change from all the flashy difficult shooters, because there is very little puzzle work involved. Simply pick up your guns and start shooting anything that moves. It's quite simply a new-born DOOM.Some of the remarks Sam makes are very funny and the enemies come in all different sizes, from small zombies to giant insects! However, sometimes the game gets difficult and it has you tearing your hear out. So many enemies coming at you and no cover at all means you have to be quick on your toes and quick on the trigger. Plus it gets repetitive as well. Simply going in, killing everything and going out gets boring after a while. Plus, the enemies all have the same attacks. And they just run blindly at you with no regard for anything else... which doesn't make a challenge. However, if you can turn a blind eye to these flaws then Serious Sam is a classic shooting game which has everything a trigger happy guy would like. GOOD BITS Fast action Lots of bad guys Lots of guns Plenty of funny bits A nice change BAD BITS Repetitive Sometimes difficult Poor A.I The Verdict: 4 out of 5 ALTERNITIVE'S: If you like this then try Duke Nukem. Enjoy
Rating: Summary: SERIOUSLY Review: I guite seriously found this game lacking GUTS.. it's just too squeaky clean computer mindless. Where's the BLOOD PULSE LIVELYNESS DIZZY EXHILITARE, RAZZLE DAZZLE?
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Games I've played Review: I recommend you to buy it! You are going to find out what is this after you played it.
Rating: Summary: Fun for a few minutes Review: I like a challenge so I started off playing on the hard difficulty setting. The first level was fun and went by quickly. Soon however, the maps were innundated with enemies and the game became nothing more than a series of marathon strafing matches. The enemies do exactly the same thing every time, so once you learn their weakness they're very easy to beat. The redeeming factor is the overall humor of the game.
Rating: Summary: Just like the good old days... Review: ...when all you did in shooters was enter a level and mindlessly shoot your gun all around. Sam is seriously(Serious,Sam, get it?) fun, even if it does suffer from a few problems. One being in the form of the controls being all screwed up. You can fix them, but it's a pain. Why couldn't the developers just keep things normal? Luckily, the pros make up for that. Getting online and playing is snap, and it's fun. The story could use some work, but with a name like Serious Sam, what do you expect. Still, it's definently worth the $10 it'll cost you.
Rating: Summary: Disgustipatingly Fun Review: I grabbed this for about [] from a local game store and played it daily from the day i bought it until i beat it. It's incredibly fun, though very simple. The story isn't incredible, but that's usually not why i buy an FPS (Halo was an exception). The graphics are great, and i've run the game on my moderate system at highest detail. Getting past certain areas can be a chore sometime - just make sure you have the quicksave key in a handy spot. The final boss was kind of boring and a lot easier than some of the earlier bosses/situation, yet it wouldn't suprise me if the expansion offered more of a challenge or maybe at least a little closure. If you liked Duke Nukem 3D, then you will definitely like this game - snide remarks, violence, and often goofy enemies.
Rating: Summary: Arcade Action! Review: This is a first-person shooter that plays like the old tile-based shoot-em-ups. Especially in cooperative mode, there are monsters coming at you from every angle, all the time, and it's just an action-packed blast. It's beautiful, too! The engine and levels are just amazing to behold. Some of the "arenas" can get a bit repetitious, but frankly, you need the practice for later in the game, so I excuse them. Serious Sam is just a great game.
Rating: Summary: It surreally good Review: Serious Sam. A main rack game at a bargain bin price, in an age where so many games are twice the price and offer little of value. If you want a different cheap game that's fun, you've got non-Sam options; however, they consist of games that are five years old (StarCraft, for example). Sam's not two yet, and he's at a great price. But, price is not why you buy a game: I'd rather pay a normal price for a good game then a quarter of the price for a bad one. So, what's the game like? Think of Doom's plot for starters. Now, add a jump button, lights, better graphics, lots of units... you've got a start. Serious Sam is all about action, pure and simple. See a guy, shoot a guy, get points. Points! I don't know how long it's been since I saw a game with points. Other games say they're all action, but look at some of them. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault has lots of shooting, sure, but it's using the Quake engine: if you're lucky, you can see ten enemies at once. Compare that to when you're being swarmed by fifty suicidal toads, which are being replaced constantly. There are more enemies on the screen at once then in entire levels of some games. Heck (or more colorful language), you can probably kill more foes at once in Serious Sam then in all of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. So... yeah, there are a lot of enemies. And weird enemies, too. How many other games have you kill fifty guys with no heads and bombs for hands in a minute? Have you ever been beset on by the stampede of thirty mutant bulls, all barreling in your direction at full tilt? And don't get me started on the final boss; if I were to design games (not likely), one of my goals would be to make a boss that somehow bests that guy. It's the sort of crazy thing that games are supposed to make possible. So, if you want a game with a deep plot, branching gameplay options, and some sort of stealth tactics, you've got plenty of choices. If you want to shoot at robot skeletons or giant fish, and give your brain the day off, Sam is the only way to go.
Rating: Summary: Seriously Hard Review: I'm not going to say that this game is a "Quake" or "Doom" clone, although I am sure that there are many people who will say that this title is very similar. The guys are Croteam developed this amazing graphics engine that is capable of displaying massive numbers of high-poly count enemies on the screen at once. While the graphics are very good, I took a star off for the high system requirements required in order to make the game look like the screenshots found on the web. Not everyone is going to have the hardware needed in order to make this game playable at a constant 60fps. I know lots of people who have Pentium 3 500MHz systems with 8MB of VRAM - they'll be stuck playing Rollercoaster Tycoon til they upgrade. You will need to have a Geforce 2 level board at the bare minimum, simply for compatibility sake. While I enjoy the gameplay, there were points in the game where there was just WAY TOO MUCH going on at one time. I beat the game in about a week playing on Easy mode, anything higher didn't really interest me because A.) I've seen it all before and now it was much harder and B.) Did I mention it got really hard? If I had to do it over again, I would play the game starting on Medium diffculty right from the start, it would have taken me longer to complete and I probably would have honed my FPS skills even more.
Rating: Summary: I don't generally like games, but I like this! Review: Yeah, yeah, it's violent, bloody, mindless shooting. Just what I was looking for! The "plot" is simple enough that you don't really have to worry about it at all (summary: shoot the bad guys, keep running). One thing I've not liked about games I've played is having to either solve ridiculously-hard puzzles (I do *not* want to take notes while playing a game!), or being so unentertaining that you quit out of sheer boredom ten minutes in. Serious Sam offers a good compromise: some light problem solving and mazes to navigate, intuitive enough to be able to just start the game and *play*, and a combination of visual and sound effects that are definitely entertaining. The monster coalition includes some humorous characters (the "headless screamers" and "arachnoids" being my favorites), though they aren't terribly smart or motivated. But that's OK (see summary, above). Sam gets an improbable selection of weapons, some of which seem like they are vastly overpowered at first -- but when you're faced with several dozen headless attackers advancing on you, you'll suddenly see the wisdom in giving Sam all that firepower. The soundtrack is enteraining, even if a bit repetitive, and helps keep your adrenaline flowing. Best of all are the visual effects (especially with a good graphics card). The Egyptian scenery is beautiful -- and perhaps my favorite effect is the solar flare when you look in the direction of the sun (obviously these guys put some thought into that one!). So, if you're not a hard-core gamer (like I'm definitely *not*), but want to have some mindless fun shooting bad guys, Serious Sam is for you. [And you can't beat the price, either!]
