Rating: Summary: Ghost Recon is The Hieght of Frustration!! Review: I was looking forward to playing this game. But when I loaded it up on my computer and started it up, things began to go downhill VERY quickly. The whole game is a battle. A constant struggle between you and your computer to see how frustrated you can become. The control scheme is absolultely horrible. It's a neverending struggle to make your different fire teams do even the simplest tasks. Going from point A to point B should not be this difficult! You issue orders to your teamates but you'll be darned if they do what they are supposed to. The command interface is also very limited. Your fireteams have only a few options: Run, Hold, Shoot. That's pretty much it. There's no "follow" command. What that means is you have to tell your teamates to move every time you want them to, even if it's just five feet. This proved to be VERY frustrating. And to top it all off there is no third person perspective. For the duration of the game you are stuck in first person mode. Why Red Storm did this I have no idea. But it just adds to the aggrivation I felt. The one saving grace of this game is its graphics. The graphics are very nice, when you aren't angry enough to notice them. But that hardly makes up for the lack of playability. What good are great graphics if the game borders on unplayable? Give this a pass. Eventhough I played this on PC, I can't imagine the XBox, GameCube or PS2 versions being any better. Instead pick up SOCOM:US Navy Seals. It does everything Ghost Recon was supposed to do only alot better.
Rating: Summary: The Best Single-Player Shooter Out There Review: In Ghost Recon you have the best graphics, sound and gameplay available. Select your team of up to six characters, choosing any combination of riflemen, support (heavy firepower), demo or sniper (my personal favorite). You then get to set them and you deep into war-torn Georgia, getting into the thick of it in desert, city, swamp and forest. Gameplay interaction is great, enabling you to concentrate on the mission, deploying the two teams your current character is not on. You can set teams' weapons control at suppressive, no shot, or weapons free, and your teams' movement at 'at all costs,' caution, or recon. The right combinations of these settings will have your troops doing anything you want. Plot there movements and zones of control at will. The maps are great, the zoom functions on the weapons that have them are perfect, and the gore settings are optional, and not overkill. The AI for your teammates and for your enemies are better than any I've seen, with the exception of the expansion pack, Desert Seige. If you like to play as a single character, going solo, get over it. That will get you killed in this game. Use all of your people, deploy them sensibly, and you will win. I strongly recommend buying this only if you have at least a Ghz processor and at least 256MB of RAM. Lastly, a word on multiplayer. If you have it in mind to buy this for a multiplayer experience, forget it. Unless you have every mod and expansion, playing multiplayer is next to impossible, due to incompatibilities between host servers and your game. This is the one black mark on an otherwise excellent game. For multiplayer gamers, I recommend the Delta Force series.
Rating: Summary: Great game! Review: But read the h/w requirements carefully. I had an ATI Rage Pro and the game just crawled until I lowered the video res and details. Good fun though.
Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Review: Excellent game. First game I tried on computer and it's better than the Playstation 2, game. A must for a beginner or a veteram.
Rating: Summary: On second thought... Review: I got this game more than a year ago and wrote a negative review. Well, I'm taking it back. With an upgraded machine I can now crank the resolution and texture quality up to their maximums and that helps with my complaints about graphics. Though you should go through the in game training to become familiar with the controls, dont let yourself be offput by the bland appearance of the training center. The outdoor enviroments are attractive, interesing, and feel realistic. The game play is difficult and tense, but thoroughly rewarding, not least because you get a sense of what it must be like to command a team in hostile territory. Weapons are realistic and correspondingly demanding to use effectively. For example, anti-tank rockets must be fired with care as the back blast will injure nearby teammates, and the accuracy of firearms is limited by movement of the gun itself, not only by whole body movements as in games like counter-strike. The first mission on the easiest setting is actually quite challenging. If you're finding it frustrating try using your sniper on point, carefully advancing and picking off enemies from cover, but keeping your other fire teams close, no more than 100 yards back, so that they can be brought forward quickly to support against heavy resistance. Save frequently. I, like other reviewers, had trouble with the patch. If you dont play online you might be better off not installing it. Online play may require the patch.
Rating: Summary: Solid Game -- Highly Recommended!! Review: (Note: This review is based on the Xbox version, but I have not included any Xbox-specific features.) Ghost Recon is a welcome break from death match, you-must-be-on-speed-to-keep-up type games. Instead of pulling a trigger and running around until you kill someone, this game forces you to develop detailed strategies to accomplish your tasks. The action you do encounter (and there is plenty) is intensified by the fact the stakes are much higher -- a couple of bullets or a well-placed grenade takes you out of the game. This forces you to develop a properly planned and well executed course of action. The game is squad based. During single player mode, you play one of six soldiers and can switch between them at any time. Your player leads one squad of three, and you set a course of action for the other squad which is controlled by AI. As you complete missions and tasks, you unlock addition items such as new soldiers to choose from. Surviving missions also increases soldier skill. Ghost Recon has significant replay value. It has 15 levels and 50 different tasks to complete, but because there are so many strategies that can be used to complete a level, they can be played numerous times with the same enjoyment level. Of course, on-line play adds tremendous replay and excitement. In my opinion, the mark of a good game is how quickly time slips by while you are playing. Time after time I have intended to wrap up in 10 minutes only to find that an hour has passed. This is a fantastic game. I do have a few complaints. The graphics are generally good, but can be on the choppy side at times. I have also experienced instances where the AI squad didn't do what I had mapped out. But, for the most part, the game is a welcome addition to my game library.
Rating: Summary: Awesome game- buy it today! Review: This is an awesome game. It is totally addicting and challenging. The only downfall is the games graphics. If you are coming over from playing Quake 3 Arena, you will be a little dissapointed. However, the game is totally fun despite the graphics seeming to be a generation behind.
Rating: Summary: krimenie Review: Awesome, as real as it gets with out getting hurt. I would like to see more weapons that SF uses however. A lot of fun. Great first person shooter game.
Rating: Summary: ... Game Review: ...This game is absolutely horrible. The playabilty is poor and the graphics are barely mediocre. Don't waste your money ...
Rating: Summary: Simply The Best Game I Have Ever Played Since Rogue Spear Review: Before Ghost Recon came out, i had beaten the whole series of Rainbow Six (thats right, the two original, covert ops, rogue spear, urban ops, and black thorn). I got kind of bored. And then, one morning i logged on to Gamespy arcade and saw a new demo for ghost recon. I downloaded it and was very fun. When i finally got the game, it was the hardest game that ubi and redstorm had ever made before. Missions took up to 45 minutes, and more than 3 reloads on each. When I beat the game after about 6 months, i tried cranking up the skill. And boy did that make a difference. And for all those people who think the game is easy, think again. And when you crank the sound all the way or put headphones on, it sounds like you are really there. Gun shots, footsteps, talking, birds chirping, you name it. You can hear every sound you would think you would hear. I would highly reccomend this game to all players of the Rainbow Six Series, Renegade players, or just about anyone who enjoys playing single and multiplayer first-person shooter games.
