Rating: Summary: This Game Rocks Review: I thought this game was a blast. It took me about a week to complete it on medium setting. I loved the graphics and had a great time playing it. The multiplayer interface is a little clunky and could have been designed a little better but overall, an excellent game. Well worth the wait............
Rating: Summary: HOLY [POO]. THIS GAME IS HARD. AWSOME MULTIPLAYER Review: I AM AN EXPERT GAMER. I AM GOOD IN ALL GAMES. BUT HOLY [POO], I PLAYED THIS GAME ON EASY AND I AM RIGHT NOW STUCK ON THE 2ND LEVEL. THIS GAME IS RIDICULOUSLY HARD. THE ONLY REASON I GAVE IT A 3 WAS BECAUSE OF ITS GREAT MULTIPLAYER. THE MULTI PLAYER KICKS [booty]. BUT THE SINGLE PLAYER IS SO DAMN HARD. I WOULD SAY BYE THIS IF YOU LIKE TO PLAY INTERNET MATCHES. IF NOT, THEN GO AHEAD AND BUY IT FOR THE SINGLE PLAYER. DONT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU. IT IS VERY VERY HARD!!!
Rating: Summary: Great fun, but too linear. Review: Make no mistake; this game is very fun to play. But if you're more of an explorer-type like myself, you'll likely have more fun with games like Vietnam: Black Ops 1 & 2, which allowed for a lot more deviation from the pre-planned paths the designers want you to follow. Though those were budget titles and too brief, I had a blast playing them, and the settings were similar. A suggestion to the designers: Have some secret areas to discover; Allow the player to roam a bit, maybe down the side of a cliff. The wonder of discovering optional areas is half the fun of playing this kind of game. As it is, I feel like I'm a character in a movie (a good movie I admit), but just like an actor in a movie, I feel like I have to follow the script exactly, or I'll be shot. If there's a door, I want to be able to open it, even if there's nothing inside. This would add to my feeling of exploration. The graphics are pretty good, but nothing I haven't seen before. The locations are memorable and well-designed. The back-of-the-truck and in-the-helicopter scenes are especially well-done and will get your heart pumping even though these scenes are really nothing more than rail-shooter type levels. But as far as rail shooters go, these several levels are the best I've ever seen. Weapons are well done, but again, nothing that hasn't been done before. But when I say it's been done before, that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. I don't subscribe to the idea that every new game has to advance the genre. All I care about is having fun. And while this game does have a few faults, I am still having a lot of fun with it, and will likely play it through again someday. Keep up the great work, Raven Sofware. Just please keep in mind that some of us would like a bit more exploration mixed in with the action. A few more quiet moments would be nice too, so we can catch our breath. System requirements are also fairly steep, but most gamers who are already into first person shooters are likely to already have the necessary hardware to run this at decent resolutions and framerates. I recommend at least a 700 mhz. PC with at least a 32 meg video card. I have an Athlon 1.2 ghz. with a GeForce 4 128 meg video card, and it runs very smoothly at 1024 x 768 although there is a bit of scenery pop-in at times, but nothing serious. I also tried it with a 32 meg GeForce 2 MX 200 before I upgraded my card, and it worked fine with that too, but I was limited to good framerates only at 640 x 480 when I had that card. I'm looking forward to the next sequel in this fine series.
Rating: Summary: PC Gamer at 70% is just right. Review: Unfinished and buggy, I played through twice, never again. This half finished mess is an insult. I would not pay $[money] for this mess, Serious Sam 2 is so much better in every way. I spent about 10 hours just getting it to run on my uber-comp. Shame on Raven for letting the B team release beta code on to the unsuspecting public under the smokescreen of E3. PC Gamer magazine rated SOF2 at 70% in the July 2002 issue and this is just what Raven deserves for unfinished buggy code.
Rating: Summary: Underrated game... Review: Soldier of Fortune 2 (SOF2) is another one of the long awaited first person shooters (FPS) released this year that borrows its technology from the popular Quake engine. The game begins with you controlling a modern-day mercenary who is given more top secret access than most everyday "citizens." As the story unwinds, your character is sent on a wide variety of missions ranging from urban landscapes in East Europe to the jungles of South America. Your character is allowed to equip himself before most missions with his choice of weaponry. There are plenty of fun items in your arsenal such as thermal goggles, nightvision goggles, sniper rifles, smoke grenades, flash grenades, grenade launchers and throwing knives. While the singleplayer campaign is okay, it's probably not as enjoyable as other FPS games on the market. One thing to note is that stealth plays a large part in your character's movement. Some missions require you to move without being detected while others are plain easier if you can avoid detection until the last possible moment. Some people do not find this enjoyable in FPS games so keep it in mind if you plan on spending a majority of your time with the singleplayer mode. The multiplayer mode is great fun but as with most first person shooters, it really helps to have broadband or some other fast internet connection. The most enjoyable games are on the servers with the largest amounts of players and these can only be accessed with high speed modems. For those limited in online speed, one great feature is the random map generator that allows you to play a variety of missions including assassination, sabotage, escape, etc. against bots (computer controlled opponents) in singleplayer mode. The multiplayer comes with the same random map generator and can spawn capture the flag matches in a variety of landscape settings and sizes. In both modes, random seeds can be types into the generator that make a variety of land obstacles in the map. One complaint from many gamers is that the random map generator always generates large amounts of fog in maps that some find difficult to play through. I myself enjoyed it and found it more challenging. ACTION FANS - 5 STARS - SOF2 isn't as user-friendly in its movement as games such as Unreal Tournament or Castle Wolfenstein because it moves at a slower pace. On the same token, those expecting a game as realistic as Operation Flashpoint will be disappointed. It's a nice mixture of the two and besides the random maps available in multiplayer there are also a number of pre-designed urban and rural maps that are fun to play especially in infiltration games that require your team to steal a briefcase from the other team. STRATEGY FANS - 2 STAR - The singleplayer mode requires a little bit of strategy and you can't jump out with guns blazing like you can in some FPS games but it's primarily an action game. ADVENTURE/RPG FANS - 2 STARS - I found the story in the game a little boring and there aren't many RPG aspects in SOF2. If you enjoy shoot 'em ups, especially ones with modern weapons, you will probably enjoy SOF2. X FACTOR - GHOUL AND RMG - 3 STARS - SOF2 tried two novel concepts in its game. The first was the Ghoul engine that promised to bring gory shootings to a whole new level. There are plenty of different body parts blown away in SOF2 but I have always felt violence is overrated in games. If you enjoy games strictly for graphic violence, SOF2 will appeal to you. The other novel concept was the random map generator included in singleplayer and multiplayer. One problem I had with the RMG was that the maps really aren't that random. You can change the terrain from snow to jungles and add different seeds to change the structures but in the end, all the maps are pretty much the same. BUGS - 5 STARS - Very few bugs or crashes. Everything worked fine. REPLAY VALUE - 3 STARS - It's unfortunate that SOF2 doesn't have a larger fan following because it is a very fun and addictive online game. It's been out long enough to gather support but it doesn't look like it will ever attract as many servers or players as recent games such as Medal of Honor or Castle Wolfenstein. It still has a large enough following at the moment to find a decent server at anytime but it could decline rapidly if more games are released that attract the FPS crowd. Because it's based on the popular Quake engine, new maps shouldn't be much of a problem as many gamers are already familiar with the editor necessary in SOF2 but the question remains if there will be enough willing mappers in the SOF2 fan community to make the game last. There have already been a few MODS released for the game and only time will tell if the fan community can sustain this game.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculously Hard,, Review: Even at the medium level, the enemy can shoot you, but you can't shoot them! Thew game is virtually impossible to efeat. After 3 levels, I threw the CD in the trash, and I will NEVER buy a game by this idiots again. Plus, the save feature is idiotic. You have to waste a save to start your game at the same level. Complete idiots wrote this game.
Rating: Summary: SOF 2: Double Helix...? correction SOF 2: Second mistake Review: If you are wondering whether or not to spend 50+ dollars to purchase SOF 2 then let me make your decision easier. If you are over the age of 10 and/or have more than a hand full of brain cells in your head you WILL NOT enjoy this game's lack of plot and its senseless gratuitous violence. Don't get me wrong I like to tear there heads off just like any other guy but this is just ridiculous. The game starts off in Prague where you have to get to your hotel. Now unlike the rest of the tourists, for some reason you have to fight your way there by killing dozens of native police men. (I cannot believe real vets came up with this game!) If that wasn't bad enough the games graphics looked like something out of a bad Saturday morning cartoon. Save your money on this one folks!! But if you really want to be a soldier of fortune get a copy of Hitman: Codename 47 (a game that makes killing your targets a work of art) and if you'd like a REAL military shooter then the best one out now is Ghost Recon. Good luck and happy hunting!
Rating: Summary: Great Game! Review: SOF 2 is awsome. The death animations are always fun to watch and the new GHOUL 2 technology which adds 16 dismemberment zones and 36 damage zones, it makes for some cool sniping. When I first played this game last week, I had my doubts. SOF 2 didn't look as good as the original SOF. But as I played on, the story got better and better and this allowed me to get by a few bugs. The big bug that the game itself has is when an enemy dies, his body will "float" above the floor. It kinda [stinks] when you shoot him in the face, blood comes spewing out and his body falls stopping a foot off the ground. It kind of takes the realism out of the game. A really cool aspect of the game is the random mission generator, type in the mission type (escape, assasination, infilteration or demolition), Location (desert, jungle, snow, plains, hills), Time of Day, difficulty, time limit (on/off) and then hit "generate new seed" and away you go, off to your weapon selections screen. You can pick some kick [rear] weapons/grenades. Theres nothing better than throwing a incinerating grenade into a room full of enemies and walking in a second after it goes off seeing 5 guys rolling around screaming in pain. For those of you who liked SOF and love to kill stuff after a long day at work Soldier of Fortune 2 is the game to buy.
Rating: Summary: Good , but could've been great Review: SOF 2 is a fantastic game, though a bit buggy in places especially for the Quake 3 engine. The storyline is solid with graphics 100 times better than the first game, though a bit sluggish in spots. The main problem with this game however, was the horrible A.I. One look at the ever repeating roll and shoot pattern of the enemy troops and you had them the rest of the game. You would think that A.I. in games would improve with time, but not yet. The only game that has had decent A.I. in the last few years is Half-Life, which still easily holds it's place as the best SP and MP FPS of all time. Even after 4-5 years no game has yet to come close to Half-Life.
Rating: Summary: SOF2 BIG DISAPPOINTMENT Review: I have to admit I didn't play much of the game after I saw the graphics. NOT as good as the first SOF. Don't waste 50 bucks on this one.
