Summary: Decent
Review: This is one gamer who began his military video gaming experiences with DF5: Black Hawk Down so when I was introduced to this title, I had some high hopes. Thankfully, the game does not entirely disappoint. I will say it is average when compared to Black Hawk's look and feel. It should be realized that this is a different game from a slightly different time. I'd say the graphics are comparable to Max Payne, the cut scenes anyway. Maybe slightly less well done but they pull it off well. If you go into it with that mindset, you'll be pleased. As for the gore that people comment on, why do you buy a game like this when what you expect is Candyland? Action games have action/violence/gore. That's why they're called FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS/ADVENTURE games. Nothing is too gorey. Play Postal 2 and follow it up with this one and settle down.

Perhaps my only gripe in this game is the fact that the enemies herein are incredibly tough SOBs. I've shot a bad guy point blank in the face with the .45 and watched him shrug it off like I slapped him with a wet noodle. What's up with that? I set the game for FULL VIOLENCE so I guess this just means that if I want to be more effective I have to empty an entire clip into him next time. Well ok.

Stealth also appears to be nearly impossible. How does a guy a block away hear me throw a knife into his buddy's neck, dropping him like a sack of potatoes. No screaming, cause like, he's got a blade in his jugular. Never mind it's raining like cats and dogs too. I guess I should just full tilt boogy and fire away from now on. Well, ok.

Decent graphics, NECESSARY gore, rock em sock em shoot em up bang bang. It's enough to make anyone lay down the dead presidents regardless.

Summary: Dont play on an empty stomic
Review: I just got double Helix a few days ago. When I opened the box there was a warning stating that the game was realistically violent and it is intended for mature gamers; that's an understatement. This game is freaking violent and bloody. Limbs can be blown off, heads can be cut off, and internal organs can fly out of the body, and all this followed by a lot of blood. Putting that aside Double Helix is an average first person shooter. The story is very simple and there aren't any twists or turns making the story quite boring, but it moves the game along, so I'm not complaining. The graphics are average and could be better considering it came out farley recently. The game box clames it is a covert action game but after playing it for an hour or so, I realized it was pretty much a shoot'um up with very little strategy. You have a good armament to choose from but all the weapons are pretty basic, none of them are special. You can chose from an M4, a shotgun, a socom pistol, frag grenades, and the one and only OICW. Were have we seen that weapon before, oh yeha in Ghost Recon. Most of the game you are by your self but in a couple of levels you have some soldiers fighting beside you. Some of the controls are annoying and hard to use so you may want to reconfigure them. Double Helix is a good game, but should not be played by people under 14 years old. And since it is so cheap it is definitely worth it. Just remember to play on an empty stomach.

Summary: Awesome first person shooter.
Review: I bought this game second hand and got a very good deal on it. I'm not going to go onefor long, just tell you the basic good and bad. Well as you've probably heard, this game is very violent, but not too much over-the-top. I heard someone in a review before state that this game is "too realistic". It is very realistic indeed, but too realistic? Is that possible? If you shoot someone in the face with a shotgun in real life, there's not going to be too much left, if you don't like realism then stick to Mario Brothers. And for you real wussies out there, you can tone it down if you want.

The gameplay is realy slick, it's one of the those games that will have you shouting Bruce Willis lines at the computer everytime you bag a baddie. It really is all out action. However, as mentioned in other reviews, it is very linear. This is a little annoying at times as it makes it practically impossible to choose your own ways of doing things.

The graphics are great, but not the best now.

Altogether, if you lie first person shooters, then I'm pretty sure you'll love this. Oh, but if you don't like realistic violence, then look elsewhere!

Summary: Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix
Review: Read that this has been recommended over Counter-strike-Condition Zero just dont no how amazon can say that since Counter-strike-Condition Zero isnt released untill october. that said Sof2 is ok has a good graphics engine but you need a decent PC, probably 1500Mhz+ and geforce3/Ati 8500 or better to avoid lag or alternativly have poor detail. The game can be annoying if you dont like having to go through the level time and again due to it been easy to die and a long time between restart points, so if your 5m short of the end you have to start again if you die. The enemy are quite intelligent and will grenade you if you hang back and dont stay in the same place so there fun to play against but they can kill you quick. later levels are better than the early ones which is a shame as the 1st 3 levels might put you off, later levels see you leading a squad but to be honest you still have to do all the work. The gore level is high but this can be turned off for the younger player and is probably an attraction to a teen player and the effects are good if bloody. The multiplayer maps are large and detailed and played in the doom/quake style and this version of the game is the most fun as its better to play with someone else then yourself. I cant see there being a large online community for SOF2 as the maps are to be honest too big and its an effort to find a bad guy to kill. Myself id rather play the medal of honour series or mafia in fact as an overall game id rather play half life again and save £30. Online SOF2 has nothing on counterstrike. Counterstrike has better maps more players more community and a lot more shelf life, oh and its free i no what ill play.
at the end of the day Sof2 is a solid 1st person shooter but its nothing mould breaking wait until its out on budget.

Summary: Absoluteley sickening-ONLY PLAY IF YOUR REALLY MAD
Review: Because aside of the cool game play, great Jedi Knight II quality graphics and sound, very good AI, and both great sp and mp modes etc, the animated blood & gore + voilence in this game is too nasty. You can literally tear people apart by using just a knife to make their face a blood festival and just cut half of it off etc. It's nasty. And so are the blood sounds. They actuall BLEED when they fall to the floor. And limp when you shoot them in the leg. TOO REALISTIC! Besides that, it ran fine, especially with my new 9500 pro. I cranked up the resolution to 1024x768 and all other settings maximum and still ran like a smooth buttah. I don't suggest this game for gamers that can't take M rated quality gore & blood + animated voilence, or even AO quality, because this game is the nastiest game i have ever seen in my LIFE. I don't suggest this for every gamer...:/(although is a great game overall)

Summary: best multiplayer ever.
Review: it was quite a large contribution to me almost failing my classes
its that good. best multiplayer ever, in fact. and getting better with constant updates.
my only complaints: sniper scope is rock steady all the time, and people have this annoying habit of calling you "gay". but the latter to be explected in any game.

Summary: Less Violent; Still FUN!
Review: To cut to the chase; this is one very good video game! Specifically a "first-person shooter".

I got this game for Christmas & since that time, I've been playing it like a twitching junkie!

Upto 2 hours per sitting, and I'm not even good at it!

"Now, the bad news:"

IT'S FUN FOR FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

After playing it for a while it occurred to me: This game was not meant to be "G" rated kid-safe edutainment. This game is supposed to be pulse-pounding, night-marish & in-your-face!

In the new version, all the bad guys are so far away that when you shoot them, all you see is a little blood and then they fall down - all at a far-off distance. No dismemberment, no decapitations, nothing too offensive to the senses.

Imagine doing a remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as an all-star musical variety, produced by RadioDisney. (OK maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration)

The original SOF was a wonderful stress-reliever. Not just killing the bad guys.... The game's appeal was the ridiculously violent slaughter & senseless blood-shed, upclose & personal. Arms, brains, legs (or pieces thereof), bones, blood, intestines... The Works!

Anyone who would call the first Soldier Of Fortune "over-the-top" would be completely justified - but I STILL LOVE IT! (call me a sicko).

Another thing I miss from the original Soldier Of Fortune is the concept of "hostages". Arguably the most important part of the game is the snap-decision-making required to distinguish between hostages and terrorists. The new Double Helix does not have hostages. Everyone's a bad guy - so everyone is a target.

"Now, the GOOD NEWS:"

The game itself is extremely good, challenging (though not impossible) and very habit-forming. It offers a variety of different missions. Escape from a POW camp, an assassination mission, an infiltration, a demolition mission, etc. Five different skill-levels and several terrain & weather conditions to choose from.

Like its predecessor, this game has exceptional 3D graphics (notice the raindrops & fog), never a dull-moment.

Double Helix's 3D world in which you move around provides a totally believable 'virtual envirronment'. It's very easy to get lost in the moment - sometimes for hours on end.

Another good quality Double Helix retained from the original Soldier Of Fortune 1 is the ease of use of controls. No huge textbook to study. You just jump right in & start playing. Both games allow you to customize the keyboard controls to nearly anything you want. Very easy!

Bottom Line: Thumbs Up! If I were to give this one a school grade - I'd give it an B+ / Buy it! You'll like it.

Summary: How good is Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix
Review: This is an incredebly adictive game. Online or of line, eather way its fun. The graphics are very good, smooth and life like. There are many wepons like the AK-74, USAS-32, M4 w/granadelauncher,USMILITARY sniper, ect. This game would imediatly come after counter-strike in online gameing. If you liked counter-strike and the first Soldier of Fortune, you will love Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix. This game is woarth every penny.

Summary: Intense, enthralling FPS!
Review: Violent, graphic, bloody. All of these are ways one could describe the intense FPS Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix in an accusatory sense. I don't, can't, and probably never will understand why, but, for some reason, some people can't indulge and enjoy the oh-so-sweet simulated graphic violence in some of today's various interactive pleasures. They can't appreciate the gurgling noise of a bullet entering a bad guy's jugular vein, the screaming effect when an enemy's arm is blown off with a shotgun, or the satisfying squelch that happens when the top of your target's head is blown into pieces with an assault rifle. I am here to praise the realistic gory aspects of this game, thank you very much! In all seriousness (and I can't stress this enough), it is a violent game. That is why I bought it. I think the violence should be appreciated for, if nothing else, the realistic effect. It pretty much simulates the effects of various gunshot wounds, instead of making the human form seem invencible and invulnerable. (That thought could lead to some very unfortunate accidents or misunderstandings.) In addition to the gore, there is also an interesting story line to go along with it, nice landscapes, and extremely long levels. This is a long game and might take up a good bit of your time (and disc space). Even on amateur level, this game is extremely difficult. Be sure to save often, and keep that body armor is good supply. The number of enemies waiting to tear you up is astronomical. The random mission generator can be played in addition to the main story game. The RMG allows for almost endless posibilities in terrain development and weapon selection; it is also a great place to practice if you have never played before. Also there is an internet multiplayer system that rivals Half-Life: Counter Strike. All in all, a great game with great replay ability. A definite 5 star FPS!

Summary: Yawn....
Review: I really expected more from this game. Having recently acquired America's Army and Medal of Honor I found SOF2 to be a big let down.

For starters there's the realism factor which is just about zero. I was in the Army for 10 years and there is no way you're going to be running around with that much firepower. Furthermore the weapons are very poorly modeled. I've fired the M4 carbine, an AK, M203, and the M3 Greasegun (still issued to M60 tank crews as recently as the early '90s) and SOF2 does a terrible job with all of them. Better weapons modelling is to be found in America's Army or even Medal of Honor. Also you can't shoot in the prone position which is incredibly unrealistic.

Next up are the bad guys who are so stupid you almost feel sad for them. Their only redeeming value is in the spectacular way in which they explode when hit. This is probably the most entertainment to be had with this game.

The missions are so linear that any strategy is pointless. Just run forth and shoot. This might be exciting if you're a hyperactive teenager with ADD and a 12 pack of Mt. Dew but I found it to grow old after just a few rounds.

The single player value is pretty limited. There's a random mission generator but I couldn't help but notice that every map it generates seems to be pretty much the same.

Finally, the graphics are so-so at best. Not on par with either America's Army or Medal of Honor. I'd say they're only a small notch above SWAT 3 and that game has been out for a couple of years!

If you're looking for something more on the realistic side get America's Army. If it's an arcade style shooter you seek get Medal of Honor which has better AI and graphics.
