Rating: Summary: Red Faction- Falling short of my expectations Review: Red Faction starts out as a great action escape game. THe problem is the plot goes down the drain. You start out revolting against to evil Ultor trying to escape from Mars, but than become you are controlled by the Red Faction leader to do a few tasks that lead you to destroying Ultor. The game itself is not that challenging, and took me about 5 hours to finish it. Throughout the game you will have fun exploring thigns newly introduced to FPS gaming. For example the GEOmod technology is something that I found to be fun. Other things that might you might enjoy are the vehichles. Although the game has alot of new enjoyable things, it is simply a short game. The multiplayer part of Red Faction gets old quick. When i first played in a multiplayer game I thougth it was great, but the same great thing wont stay great forever. If you are thinking about getting this game I suggest getting the demo first and seeing if you like it. The price ... is alot for such a short game, but other people may like it.
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: This game is good...but it lacks some stuff. The geomod of course is amazing. It adds a whole new level of strategy. I was trying to get into this room, so i shot open the windows and i still couldnt fit in, so i had no idea, and then i was like ohhhh i can blow it down! The submarine part is incredible. If anybodys seen or read the hunt for red october and liked it, youll love the submarines. The torpedoes look so cool, and theyre heat seeking so it keeps you on your toes. When your hit, instead of some stupid flash going off, the whole screen shakes and even tho its annoying, its so freakin realistic. The weapons are really cool too. Unlike some other games where you get like a frap ray luke skywalker blaster laser pistol, which is so dumb, this game offers real military-style weapons such as the assault rifle, which shoots in three round bursts like a real army gun. the shotgun is awesome, and the reload times make it difficult but again realistic. the pistol has a silencer which is really cool. also, the automatic weapons actually have recoil that throws off your aim, which is better than any other dumb gun. so the shooting part is not as bad as some say. the only bad parts about the game is that although its addictive its kindof repetitous. it is just like all the other fps games in the sense that you have to go searching for doors and such. i havnt got that far into the game, so im still optomistic about the gameplay. my advice is that if you havnt played every single fps game there is, get this game. if you like explosions and rapid fire battles, get the game. and if your into vehicles get the game. if you live in a box and do nothing but play computer games however, your not in for something that will blow you away. it blew me away, thats all i can say.
Rating: Summary: As good as Half-Life? Hell yeah! Review: I just got a copy of the big red faction demo on a cd and decided to try it out. Now, I have an HP Pavilion from late 1999 and wasn't expecting the game to be great, but it said I would be able to run it smoothly. With the level detail at medium, the charecter detail at high, decals on, and shadows and dynamic lighting off(I usually use this config as I don't think its any worse than the maxxed settings are), the game actually RUNS WELL! It looks like Half-Life on steroids with the better graphics, and the game DID slow down at some points, but I was running it on a 466 megahertz with no video card! The characters moved fluidly, and the only slowdowns were a slight pause when I blasted a hole in a wall. This game is fun, low requirments by modern standards, and the geo-mod is VERY cool!
Rating: Summary: Good Shooter Review: I'll make this one simple;THE HIGH POINTS Red Faction has lots of action. The weapons are well done - The rail gun can see shapes and shoot folks through walls. There is a lot of constant action and shooting. The game moves around - sometimes you are driving a vehcial - other times you are sneaking around with your weapons holstered in an office environment, and sometimes you are running and shooting. There are some fun moments built into the game - not everyone is waiting to shoot you - sometimes guards are taking a pee, or have their backs turned which adds some realism. THE BAD & UGLY If you just want to shoot & kill, Red Faction is fun, but if you like a story with your shooter, there are problems. First, sometimes you just plain forget what you are trying to do, but that doesnt matter because if you find the right button, press it, and kill the people near it, it's usually right. There aren't a lot of different skins for bad guys, so most of the time you are shooting guards or mercenaries that look the same. They also tend to say the same 3 or 4 things over and over. The story doesn't always make sense and the scripted acting is god-awful. Geo Mod doesn't make or break the game. Yes, you can blow chunks out of walls with rockets for fun, and sometimes even to your advantage but not everything is able to be blown up so easily. Finally, the graphics are good, but in some places they are blocky or hazy and lack the dramatic sky and martian landscape this game COULD have had if it put more into it's graphic engine.
Rating: Summary: Half-Life in a shiny new wrapper Review: I give it 4 stars because it was at least done fairly well. However, except for the vehicles (nice touch), one fairly interesting new weapon, and the ability to blow holes it walls (a "feature" I never actually NEEDED) it doesn't really offer anything Half-Life didn't. Actually, the Half-Life storyline intrigued me vastly more. Heck, the ending of Red Faction is even a little sad compared to HL. However, that being said, it did give me my FPS fix for about 10 hours and it did it fairly well. I recommend buying it, but just barely. Wait until you are completely tired of Counter-Strike and need a little alone time. Also, a word to the wise: don't depend on the quicksave feature. There is no autosave in the game, so every time you hit that F6 key to save you are overwriting the previous save. Exit to the main menu occasionally and perform a manual save. You won't be sorry. -K
Rating: Summary: Revolution on the F.P.S Horizon! Review: Being a huge fan of F.P.S, I had to purchase Red Faction. It Is simply wonderful to behold the beauty of the graphics of this game. Lots of time and effort were put into the textures and skins as well as the special effects like fog, shadows, ect. Game controls-H.U.D- was well thought of. Weapons were well thought of look and feel good to the sences. I've played all the major F.P.S Half-Life-Thief-Deus Ex-Unreal-Gunman-System Shock2-Undying-SiN-Serious Sam-Quake-Yes, I named a few, but it's hard to find a good F.P.S in our field of study- so to speak. This is were all F.P.S are going the best (A.I) I have seen-The best voice action-best lighting-best save feature. You know I told my wife this is the best and most realistic game I have ever played-of course she had to say yeah your on Mars!! The only thing-some people may say is that is is sort of short. Tell them no to use the cheat-Codes and explore-you can play for hours and never realize it. Thanks for your time!!
Rating: Summary: Same old shooter with better blow-ups and graphics Review: The graphics are great, the damage effects are wonderful but it is still the same old 3D shooter in a fancy new bag. What do I mean? Well, you have the "switch hunting" type plot. I hate switch hunting. If the game allows you to blow up anything (and Red Faction does not) then finding keys or switches should be irrelevent. The game is fun but it would be much better if it refrained from the "great key/switch hunt"
Rating: Summary: Good game, but not all that its cracked up to be. Review: Let me start out by saying that I have a P3 1 Ghz system running a geforce 2 mx400 32 meg, with 512 meg of ram and an 2mbit plus cable connection.... The games principals are awesome. I really like the idea of being able to blow through walls with rockets and other machines. What the game does lack, other than what was mentioned before, is gameplay. This game is like every other 1st person shooter out there. There is nothing great about this game. Save your money. They only reason that I bought this game is because it was only $... and thats the only reason. As far as multiplayer. Like I said before, I am running an awesome cable connection. I tried playing on a coulpe of servers with 12 or less people on it and a ping level under 200ms. All I can say about this is that it SUCKED. The lag was terrible. The game was so jumpy even with 12 people playing and the game is supposed to support up to 32. I dont know. Maybe its cause this game just came out and they need to release some patches. Here's the deal. Buy this game only if you are a die-hard 1st person shooter game player. Well, even if you are, dont get it, Wait for Retrun to Castle wolfenstein to come out.
Rating: Summary: Red Faction Is One Of The Best Computer Games Ever Made Review: Red Faction totally rocks. You'll have to have a upper end computer to see how great this game looks and sounds. I was amazed how real the rock in the mines looked. And I was totally amazed at how real the faces on the characters looked. And the characters actually say different lines to you and not the same old thing over and over again like in other computer games I've played. I don't care what other reviewers say, go out and buy this game if you have a upper end computer and you want to see a great first person shooter. I would have to say this game ranks right up there with Half-Life. What amazes me is the vehicles and the stationary weapons you see throughout the game. Everything is so easy to operate and it is so cool to see the vehicle weapons and the stationary weapons in action. I've never been able in other computer games to get into a vehicle or behind a stationary weapon and just blast away with both bullets and rockets. This is the first computer game made where you can make holes in the surrounding walls with both rockets and bombs. Hey, I don't care what anybody saids. I could watch the explosions into walls a million times over and never get tired of it. To get into a submarine and shoot torpedos and watch the torpedos go through the water and hit something is like watching a real submarine in action. I highly recommend this game to anybody who wonders what it would be like to work in underground mines on the planet Mars. This game almost put you there.
Rating: Summary: The Demo Rocks-- The Game Should Too Review: I've played the demo and i have to say as a long time Quake player and then Half Lfe.. this game blew me away. The best part is that opnce you hav the rocket launcher you don't need doors any more... The completely destructable world allows you to even see NME's on a heat scope and just launch a rocket through the wall. Plus the completely destuctable world works in Muliti-player... my favorite feature.. Now I don't have only one or two ways to escape.. I can make my own doors.. If the demo is any indication this will be a contender for Game Of The Year quick.. Grab the Demo .... Trust me you'll buy the game
