Rating: Summary: Tied with being best FPS ever! Review: I personally feel that Red Faction is neck and neck with Half Life as far as the greatest FPSes go. It is the awesomest experience to be able to play a game like Half-Life, Goldeneye for N64 and a role-player. You have control like you do in Half Life, the ability to pick off parts of an enemy (head shots, neck, leg, etc.) and like a role player if you don't like the wall blow through it and go to a new room!Great story line too.
Rating: Summary: You need more then an engine to make a good game. Review: I bought this game because of the Geo-Mod technology, when I started playing I thought it was a really cool feature, but that's really the only interesting thing about this game. It's as though the designers spent so long working on the Geo-Mod that they left level design up to the last moment, and boy does it show. levels are built like tubes. You go in one end and exit the other. This totally kills the point of geo-mod, what's the point of blowing holes in the walls if theirs only one way through the level? Furthermore the rooms contained on the level are almost all the same, even if your not going to bother with plot (and they haven't) its nice to have some tactics involved. Weather it's sneaking up on enemies or going from cover to cover, I need something more then a flashy engine to keep me interested. This game will likely be the first of many, and hopefully those that follow will make better use of geo-mod.
Rating: Summary: Graphics...so? Review: This game has a wonderful mix of fps..stealth..and just all out killing sprees. The graphics may not look that great but they were made like that so people with not so big and buff computers...That the problem Half-life made..sure its a great story but after a while running around and killing aliens to free yourself gets boring...
Rating: Summary: Best since HALF LIFE Review: I own this game and it is an excellent 3D first person shooter. The "Geo Mod" is a giant leap foward in this genre or any other. The next forward from "Half Life" or other such shooter+strategy games. All in all a throughly enjoyable ride which somewhat reminded me of "Deus Ex" only better. The Geo Mod is great! If you can't get through a door just blow a hole through the wall next to it and walk right through! There are also secret rooms and such if you know where to look. There are not always cracks like Quake.Be carefull with your weapons though because there are some things you don't want to blow away such as the side of a ship your'e riding in!The strategy aspects are challenging but not to tough to get through if you think things out and "save early, save often".When in doubt, blow it up!A strat guide is recommended for this one just for the maps if nothing else because you can go back and forth between levels to get things. My recommendation: If you like shooters and strategy BUY this game!
Rating: Summary: Next "Game of the Year". Review: I don't have anything bad to say about this game. The action, graphics, Geo Mod, etc, are all excellent and get 5 out of 5 from me. The AI is good to excellent; I would say between 4-5. The only thing I would say is that the monsters should have had better AI. Weapons are awesome. Using submarines, trucks and the hover crafts is cool. The Geo Mod makes the multiplayer mode a lot of fun. ANYBODY WHO LIKED HALFLIFE WILL LOVE THIS GAME. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes first person shooters.
Rating: Summary: Not Half-Life, but Cool Review: While Red Faction does not live up to all the hype, it's a great game, nonetheless. The GeoMod feature is cool, but doesn't apply to the ENTIRE environment--only portions. The graphics are great, the weapons are great, the vehicles are great (although enjoyed for only short periods). The plot is okay, but the voices are a little cheap. I liked the "stealth" portions where you lose all your weapons (except for one) and try to sneak through well-armed buildings. Half-Life is my all time favorite because of the action/sci-fi/horror aspects, which this game really lacks. Even so, Red Faction is pretty cool.
Rating: Summary: Red Faction Review: If you like 1st person shooter games, then check this one out! Better than Half-Life and Quake I, II and III!
Rating: Summary: So Much Potential Review: Well, first let me tell you that I have been waiting for Red Faction ever since I heard about it six months ago. The ability to punch holes through anything? A submarine and plane [flying machine... whatever]? And a good story? Well, needless to say I was engaged, as nearly every FPS fan was. But the Red Faction they promised is very different from what they released. Sure, Geo-Mod technology lives up to the hype, except you can use it almost nowhere. And the engine is complete trash. I almost died from laughter watching guys run around [their legs look like a cheap cartoon that is missing a couple of animations] and speaking [the mouth animation is worse than Half-Life]. And the vehicles are nice, but you hardly get any [the submarines are very cool though]. If this game had been released with the Q3TA engine [Quake III: Team Arena] with the Geo-Mod tech tied in, it would have been a winner. Now it is just a game to play for a couple hours, not really a Half-Life killer or a legend. If this game had had a bit more polish, it would have been the best. -Robbie
Rating: Summary: This game is not. . . Review: Half-Life Deus Ex No One Lives Forever Undying well written filled with stunning visual images groundbreaking deserving of the hype This game is also not. . . a bad waste of time a bad game to play while waiting for something else to come out buggy Ultimately there is nothing new here. Geo Mod technology? Call me when the engine is at version 5.
Rating: Summary: Short Review: I am a veteran FPS gamer and I found this game to be very, very short. It is not particularly challenging to defeat. The replayability factor was low, as the enemies were in exactly the same positions as the previous time. In a technical sense, it was well constructed, without any bugs. The GEO mod engine was very good, but under utilised as a gaming option. I managed to start and finish this game in a single session, of about 5 hours, and when compared to some games that released even within the last 2 years, that is poor. In summary, technically well constructed, short game play, middling story line. 3 stars.
