Summary: Incredible!
Review: This game is the most incredible thing I have ever seen! I have the Playstation 2 version and I'm going to get the PC version anyway. I am going to because I will be able to verse people over the internet with the death match feature! Anyway, in the game you play as Parker and your mission is to go to a mine in mars and stop this agency from harvesting the deadly material in the mine. Atleast that is what I think I'm trying to do.( I forget what happened at the begining because I've gotten so far). I find myself playing atleast 2 hours a day because of the engrossing storyline and the fun factor. If there's a tank coming your way, just blow a hole in the ground with a rocket launcher and it will fall right into it! Also with the pin point aiming mode, when the opportunity arrises, take aim and fire! The death match mode also gives it great replay value. Plus the geo mod engine lets you blow up just about everything you want! This game is one of my favorites and always will be. Five stars!

Summary: "Did you have a good day at the office, Dear?"
Review: Do you have a boring job that you despise? A whip-cracking boss you despise? Not enough money? Irritating co-workers?

That's nothing. You could be Parker, a miner working in the red bowels of a Martian iridium mine, run by the vast and ruthless intergalactic Ultor Corporation (Umbrella, anyone?). And if you port up THQ's "Red Faction" to your computer, you *are* Parker---and get to have what is possibly the worst day on the job of all time.

Parker is having a rough time of it as a new Ultor miner: the food is lousy, the pay is worse, and the guards are everywhere. Worse yet, a Plague is sweeping the mines, and Parker's buddies are dropping like flies. What to do? Pick a fight with an overbearing guard and join the Red Faction Revolution, of course!

"Red Faction" suffered from two problems that can sink a good game or movie: 1) Inadequate marketing; and 2) a release date that coincides with a much anticipated blockbuster. In "Faction"'s case, the blockbuster was "Return to Castle Wolfenstein"; in the "Wolfenstein" mania, "Faction" sank unnoticed. Indeed, I purchased Wolfenstein and Red Faction in the same week; I put Faction on the hopper, shot a few guards, and then replaced it with Wolfenstein. I totally forgot 'Faction until yesterday, when, looking for a good way to kill a few hours, I happened upon my pristine "Red Faction" disks.

I didn't expect much more than a few hours of blasting at security goons, having some fun, and enjoying some decent graphics. Surprise! "Red Faction" is what I call an "all-nighter" game: you quickly get addicted at about 6 o'clock at night, and find yourself finishing off the Big Boss at 5 the next morning.

It's that good.

The story is straightforward, fast-paced, and nothing original: with everyone shooting at you, you quickly 'join up' with the Red Faction, possibly the most inept and ineffective revolutionary group in video game history. Your fellow miners, urged to 'join the Revolution', are useless: like the red-shirted security guys in Star Trek, their lives are measured in nanoseconds. The rest of the game, you carry out little acts of sabotage, assassination, and general mayhem at the direction of the Revolution's witchy leader, Eos; you're also helped out by Hendrix, whose enviable task while you do all the grunt work is to sit at his computer console in a cubicle and coach you along (he also sounds like a dead ringer for Denzel Washington).

Why are you blowing up nuclear reactors, destroying orbital space stations, and going wild with an assault rifle in the middle of the office lunchroom? That's the funniest thing of all: Parker, bored miner, pretty much goes with the (Eos) flow. And hey, it's FPS! That's the other thing that's actually enjoyable about "Red Faction" (apart from the over-hyped Geo-Mod technology---translation: you can blow a big hole in the wall and walk into it): the game is actually nasty enough to provide you with big weapons of mass destruction and then set you free in an office, or even a hospital. Yeah, you shouldn't shoot the office workers or the nurses---but if you're having a bad day...

GRAPHICS: 9/10. Faction is graphically impressive, and the environments are detailed, well thought out, and visually dramatic. The frame-rate is crisp and fluid, unusual for a game that looks this good (better than Half-Life). The art is also cool and has a kind of retro-Soviet look.

AUDIO: 10/10. The sound in Faction is superb, particularly the weapons: nothing beats that nasty chuckle of the assault rifle, or the throaty burr of the heavy machine gun.

GAMEPLAY: 7/10. 'Faction is fast and furious, but there are a number of frustrating places where you'll need to save early and often. The finale, which should have been great, is a letdown, and the game seems to just fizzle out when it could have gone on (a la Halo) to something bigger.

'Red Faction' is fun for a night's killfest, and impressive to look at; a pity it sputter out at the end. Gamers of the world, unite! You have Mars to gain, and nothing to lose ...

Review: I bought this game because others gave it good reviews. I installed it on a HP 510 with XP but can get no further in the game than the menu page. The computer crashes.

Summary: Red Faction
Review: Red Faction is a futuristic first person shooter set in mars. You play parker a miner in mars who fight against his employers. The game loads data and runs great, The graphics and sound are ok but the geo-mod technology is not as good as they said. The single player is very disappointing. It is a fairly long game but the gameplay is dull because of the poor level design, dumb ai and nothing new. It is not very hard but the designers don't know where the player would run out of ammo or health. Red Faction is very disappointing.

Summary: Great sci-fi fun!
Review: This is one of the greatest sci-fi games I've played in a long time. It is so real, from the gases and liquids, to the ammunition you fire, and even (not to be gruesome) the blood from people you kill in the game. The only beef I had at first was I was running it on Windows 98 (with 96mb of RAM, I might add). For those that do not have 128mb or better, get it. Also, it runs much better on Windows XP.

My son loved to watch me play it to where he was an addict. He played mostly whenever I wasn't around (being it's for those more mature players). We both beat it and were disappointed. That's how you get when you play a game as exciting as this and it finally has to end.

Summary: Geo MOD technology is extremely fun!!!!
Review: This game is outstanding regarding the Geo mod technology...geo mod technology is: if u fire a rocket at a wall, it doesn't just explode leaving the wall intact and just a black mark, noooooo it creates a hole in the wall. that makes the game a whole lot more interesting. the weapons r superb: the futuristic weapons r fun, while the "modern" weapons r realisitic in nature. The weapons make for a great multiplayer while the storyline is semi bland. the vehicles r fun to drive...this is a really fun game, w/ not many bugs at all:-)

Summary: Very fun FPS.
Review: Red Faction is a very good FPS, especially if you can't afford the more expensive titles. Single player mode is superb; neat storyline, excellent gameplay, cool vehicles. The weapons are some of the best I've seen; a rail gun that can see behind corners, the sniper rifle, the heavy machine gun. One drawback, though, is that most of the fighting takes place indoors, in darker areas. This game would have been even better if they let a little more light in. Also, the enemy characters can get a little annoying when they repeat the same phrases over and over ("I'll get you, miner!", "Try me, miner!"). Multiplayer mode is a blast - Geo-Mod really shines here. Definitely worth your money.
