Summary: Great, but not greatest.
Review: This game is truly the greatest add-on for half-life, other than CS. I wasn't too thrilled with being able to play "bob"(blue-shift), but I couldn't wait to play this. The army always bugged the s*** out of me, and I wanted to be them. But it wasn't exactly what I expected. They could have made this 3000 times better if they knew that the problem was going on, not being thrusted into the action like everyone else. I wanted to be able to neutralize the threat, and the facilitators. Not have them be our crutch. and, you dont get good ammo/weapons in the beginning. It's annoying! But I enjoyed this.

Summary: What can I say that's not already been said?
Review: This game rocks. Even all this time later, I've seen few things to equal Half-Life, and the expansion is just as good. The new weapons are fun, especially the amphibious alien symbiote that fires corrosive vegetables (yes, really), the heavy machine gun (which I nicknamed the Hamburger Gun, because of what it can do to enemies with a few seconds of fire) It's also a great deal more scary than the original. One truly terrifying sequence involves going into pitch black steam tunnels infested with a hive of giant beetle things. You have to rely on your thermal vision goggles to see anything, and because of the short range, you can't see anything of the enemies until they're right on top of you. And that's when the battery runs out....truly terrifying. The "Where's that running noise coming from...." (looks up) moment in the garage is another example. The sense of chaos brought up in the first Half-Life is built on well...you get to see how the confused, brutal multi-way battles between the alien invaders, a new force of cyclopean aliense with symbiotic weaponry, the stranded remains of the military task force and a band of black-clad assassins determined to leave no witnesses progresses to a highly explosive conclusion. (the firefight in the warehouse is nothing short of incredible) Also nice are the little tie-ins with the original. You get to repeat the infamous dam raid from HL, from the other side, relive a twisted version of the "Welcome to Black Mesa" tram ride from the intro to HL and witness Freeman leaving for Xen. Oh, and check out the "Employee of the Month" picture early on in the game.

I could go on for hours, but let me sum it up with this question. If you don't have Half-Life and it's expansion pack, why on earth not? You're missing out on something that's more than a classic. It will be a piece of gaming mythology.

Summary: A superb expansion pack
Review: This is a goodie for all you half-life fans out there, and is juuust about everything that an expansion pack should be. It's well-priced at 30 bucks. It's a good length, with plenty of levels to keep you going. There are new monsters, great level design as always, and a couple new weapons; the addition of the SAW gives this expansion a whole star in and of itself!

The story is cool, putting you in the shoes of a soldier instead of into Gordon Freeman's shoes. There are plenty of fun instances where you run into a stranded squadron of soldiers and get to fight alongside of them for awhile, though they sure don't last long.

Two good things: First, there are a lot more of those terrifying little black guys that pitter-patter around so frighteningly. Second, those darned boring alien levels are a thing of the past.

It would've been nice if this pack had a little more innovation like the original did, but I'm not going to complain. There is no doubt that Valve is saving all of it's best new tricks for the sequel. And if you really get that anxious, you can always play TeamFortress or Counterstrike for FREE to your heart's content.

For now, single player action lives on in Opposing Force!

Summary: A good expansion for Half-Life
Review: This is actually a very good expansion for Half-Life. usually expansions stink, but this one is quite acceptable. Opposing Force takes you back to Black Mesa a one of the US Marines trying to capture Gordon Freeman (play the first half life before purchasing this). There is an extroidanary arsenal of weapons in Opp. Force and challenging new aliens that do more damage. If you liked half-life, then buy this expansion pack cause its really good. I do have one complaint: I cannot play this sucker online! i have a 500mhz Pentium 2 (its old, but still reads the data) and i have cable modem/high speed connection and it says some file differs from a server file! oh well, you can play single player over and over because its so fun and addicting. have fun playing!

Summary: Best, Scariest, and Coolest game eva!!!
Review: This is by far the best Half-Life game I have ever played. Those zombies you see on Half-Life Game of the Year Edition, in this game you also see zombie security guards, zombie military guys, and some super powerful zombie that throughs burning blood at you and RUNS at you instead of walking. That is the freakiest part when they run at ya. Then there's the new species of aliens. There are 5 new aliens I've never seen before. They are, The two military zombies, a walking fish creature, an electrical beast (that you get a weapon from), and some new boss found when you're in the observation area later in the game. Another thing, I love the starting of the game, it is by far the most action packed starting ever. I highly recomend getting this game because you for one get to actually see Gordon Freemen enter the beam to the other world "DONT FOLLOW HIM IN, YOU WILL FALL TO YOUR DEATH!!", then theres the new music, the fact that you get new 5 star weapons, you get a Desert Eagle instead of a magnum, and new species of alien appear randomely. A few tips for you: The boss you fight in the Observation area is undefeatable. That damn Lawyer shows up in this one too, trapping you in several areas. You (I dont think) cant kill freeman. And something you MUST know in order to finish this game. never ever EVER turn around, if you do......well lets just say death doesn't like to be hugged.

Summary: a great addition to the half-life seires!
Review: well, I was impressed with this addition. There were a few new additions like weapons (like the awesome new M249SAW), enemies, a fun story and hardly any puzzles, and you are only in the alien world xen for a split second which I much approve of (I HATED xen in the original half-life) but the last boss was a MAJOR disapointment and WAY too easy. I wont reveal too much here but I can say that you dont really fight the boss but instead you mostly run back and forth while fighting off the creatures he spawns. All in all if you are a die hard half-life fan dont miss out on this and even if you are not a fan, you will probably like this game.

Summary: Great game, but where's the rest of it?
Review: Well, I was very excited about this game before it was released. An add-on to one of the best games ever created, only now played from a juxtapositional viewpoint. So how did the game stack up to it's hype? Very nicely. This game is essentially more Half-Life goodness (and who can complain about that?) with new weapons, a couple AI buddies, and some new gameplay elements. (Rope climbing, etc) In my mind, there were only two let downs in this solid gaming title. First, the final boss was a real neurotic experience. I felt like I was solving a puzzle, not duking it out with a badass alien. Second, and more significantly, I finished this game in 7 hours of off and on gaming. In this day and age of 40+ hour games, that's just way too short. By the way, the training portion of this game is excellent. Inspired by "Full Metal Jacket," it's both functional for newbies and yet still fun for verteran Half-Lifers. Think of this game as a little something to hold you over until Half-Life 2 hits.
