Rating: Summary: leave your friends, family, anyone to play this game Review: i have not had much time to play this game. I just bought it a few days ago and im already hoping i had no life to begin with. I just wish i could sever all connections with everyone i know to play. This game is only about 40% of the original, but considering i beat the original 3 times over, i should have no problem spending months and maybe years on this game. Half-Life: Op Force has a new twist to the original. Remember those military death squads that ticked you off so much in the first game? now you play one of them, and even get to battle it out with mr freeman himself. This game introduces a new alien race, many new weapons, and more characters. One of these new characters is a fat police guard person. Also included are many many new multiplayer maps. I guess winning every game award on the planet for half life wasn't enough for valve. Thank god.
Rating: Summary: Just as good as half life but often confusing Review: I Have to admit that I love This game very much. The only thing that I must stress about its gameplay is the game can sometimes be a bit confusing. The many puzzling puzzles in the game are sometimes just to difficult for me. (I dont mean to nitpick but I mean What I say) Hey! has anyone noticed the guys in business suits that keep messing You up????
Rating: Summary: A fitting addition! Review: I just got finished playing this add-on to Half Life, one of the greatest computer games ever. Like the first game, it's incredibly addictive and a heck of a lot of fun with the new weapons, aliens and Black Op forces. And, oh, those Black Ops... battling them is one of the biggest joys of this game. The aliens are great, but the Black Ops require more strategy, and tend to make you jump in your seat more, especially when one of those nimble, fast females start popping in and out on you. Of the aliens, I like the new shock troopers, with their roach gun the best. They'll react appropriately if you toss a grenade their way (they'll run away from it) and just seem to have better AI than other aliens in the game. All of them are good, though. The new weapons are a lot of fun, too. I loved the alien grenade launcher and the displacer gun that allows you to visit the weird worlds of Xen.Complaints about the game are few. There are sound problems that cause it to repeat like a broken record over and over again at times. I also encountered graphics problems when re-loading a game after I had been using the sniper rifle. Third, it's too short! I wanted more, more, more! Finally, and I have to mention this, the price. It costs as much as a full game. It seems pricey for an add-on pack. I don't feel ripped-off by it, but if it had been longer maybe I would have found the bitter pill of the price a bit easier to swallow. Still, a *great* add-on to a *great* game. :)
Rating: Summary: good mod...but,not enough. Review: i once (1999/april) bought the game halflife. at that time the graphics adapter i had was k6_2/400+G200/16MB with win98fe & NT4.0 it was slow ..choppy .. it didnt really support opengl well.. ..time has changed and i bought the legendary r128fury but i didnt play halflife because of the first impression of choppy graphics and all... this march i rebuilt my system with p3_450+voodoo3000(183MHZ_OVERCLOCKED) with 3dfx_HSR(hidden_surface_removal)driver + wicked3d +win98se/NT4.0(nt does not support hsr, however-it's-fast) same amount of video ram but it was sensationally faster and beautiful . these days you've got to have at list 256MB ram to play a game to minimize the swapfile access which degrades the over all performance. i enjoyed half_life the first time since i bought the damn thing real enjoy that was..time passed and i started thiking what about mod that has story. so i bought it , damn, it's "A OKAY". it only has 6levels but hard_level is quite a challenge.. at this moment i say it's worth 20$ but if you have enough harddrive i suggest drop this single pack and buy "blue shift"30$ blue shift has opposing force bunddled in it.(they say so) half-life is based on quake2 engine so if your computer is capable of running q3demo you will have no problems what so ever so single players must take a look at it.
Rating: Summary: The BEST add-on!! Review: I played this game last summer after having finished Half-Life. I wanted MORE so I tried this out. Being a soldier, nice twist, nice change of perspective! And this game was VERY good, intense, scary and full of new stuff. All the new features really make this an awesome game, such as the new weapons, new enemies, nightvision instead of flashlight. Thats a good thing, cos it allows you to spot the enemies way further ahead and give them the 'sniper treatment'. I also liked that one could "team up" with the other marines, and also use the medic and the mechanic guy for useful services. Unfortunately they tend to die very soon cos they are hard to protect. The sound is as from HL very good and scary. Very frightening when you stand in some dark corner and can hear some creepy monster/alien sounds near you. The new monsters are very cool, as are the new weapons, including a nifty sniper gun. The drill instructors at the very beginning - hazard course - are hilarious, make sure you play that through. Some complaints... Well, I cant think of none, the game isnt as long as Half-Life of course but still it will take more than 3-4 days for you to run through. The final boss was very hard to beat and I had to check planethalflife's site to get some hints. Otherwise, this game offered a very nice change of perspective, slightly cooler being Corpral Adrian Shepherd then a scientist in theoretical physics... This game also proves that a GOOD storyline can beat many newer games with better graphics that lacks such an intriguing story and concept that HL has. Exciting, scary and a must have!
Rating: Summary: It's not Half-Life...but it's good... Review: I purchased Half-Life shortly after it's release in 1998 and built a system just to play this one title...I was not disappointed. More recently, my anticipation had been building over the past several months as I watched and waited for Opposing Force to be released. I bought it, loaded it, played it and conquered it...all too quickly. Valve presented the gaming world with some pretty big shoes to fill, and it seems as though Gearbox has made the add-on to the 1998 Game of the Year less difficult to complete. I thrive on the complex puzzles that level designers create (i.e., System Shock II). And, while the alien AI has been enhanced, the overall game play (when compared to it's parent product) doesn't live up to my level of anticipation or the hype that normally surrounds a Sierra product. Also, I know that it is only 40% the size of the original game, but I paid as much for this as I did Half-Life. I have to admit, though, that the multiplayer aspect and additional maps are right on the money. Some of the best death-matching you can buy is right here (until Q III is released). And, overall, the visuals were excellent throughout the Black Mesa compound. I am disappointed, though, that I only caught 1 glimpse of Gordon Freeman. Bottom line: buy it and enjoy: blowing things up, cracking skulls and playing with exotic weapons...or your collection of Half-life maps and mods will go unfinished...until 2001 (Half-Life 2! ).
Rating: Summary: It's an "OK" sequel Review: I think it was a very good follow-up to the original Half Life, considering the fact that the game itself is shorter. They did added quite a few "villains/foes" in there, yet they stick to the same story format. There are some familiar faces in there. I didn't like the new Barney though. There were some flaws I noticed when playing the game: the weapons won't respond after jumping off Xen, so I end up saving and reloading the game level, The frames were acting wierd and slow, so I have to download the patch to make that running smooth again. My favorite part is recruiting the soldiers to battle the Black Ops and the alien shock troopers. I would give GearBox 4 stars for creating an enjoyable sequel.
Rating: Summary: ehh.... Review: i think it's an interesting concept, and i like some of the new weapons (barnacle gun!), but they could have pushed it a little further. not really necessary, what with all the free mods floating around out there.
Rating: Summary: Great new expansion for the price... Review: I was really looking forward to playing this game, the whole idea of playing a soldier going through the Black Mesa project was a good premace. The game is great, but I felt like it was over too soon. Maybe it was because I'm so familiar with the original Half-Life, I was able to cruise through this. When I got to the end, I was still hungry for more. I then recalled that this is an expansion pack, not a new Half-Life. Oh well. I expect that the Blue Shift expansion will be much like this, and I'm going to buy that when it comes out too.
Rating: Summary: Worth Buying Review: I would just about give this 5 stars. Great storyline again, great atmosphere (such as going though the pitch-black tunnels full of aliens), lots of great new weapons, aliens (tougher), puzzles, teamwork, etc. The only cons are that it doesn't run as nicely as Half-Life on your PC, it does stutter a bit. Also the AI is not as good. I mean really, how many times does the soldier have to repeat the same jokes/comments before you feel like shooting him? Sometimes they don't follow you where you want aswell. Anyway it's still a great game!
