Rating: Summary: Oh dear... Review: Quite simply... this game is utter drivel. Everything from the badly animated 3D characters, to the unengaging puzzles to the absurd dialogue makes this game a complete waste of time! Avoid it like the plague...
Rating: Summary: adventure game with an old time feel.. Review: Remember the adventure games with cartoon animation, tounge-in-cheek humor, and a good story.. like the monkey islands, grim fandango etc. miss those? Well wait no more, Runaway is a perfect example of such a game. ... umm, not exactly, but it does come close.
The game is completely 2D and the graphics cartoony. But that dont matter, the art work and the music are very good. Though the dialog can be a bit dull and sometimes plain boring.
But the game has an excellent story. A boy leaves new york to go and study in berkeley, knocks down a girl on the road and has an adventure of a lifetime. To find out play the game.. it does roll like a movie.
As far as the puzzles are concerned, they range from easy to annoying. The biggest reason this game doesnt get 5 stars is due to the puzzles. Some of them are fairly quirky and some involve a fair amount of pixel hunting. You think you finished a puzzle to finish a task at hand and just ... i mean *just* to harrass you the game has an illogical twist which causes you to go and solve another puzzle or adds more to the current one.
But overall it is a good game if you miss the adventure games of yore... definately worth a buy from the bargain bin.
Rating: Summary: Finally an great adventure game ! Review: Runaway is defenetly a great adventure game ! look good old time, hand drawn Sierra and LucasArts games we used to love so much. It's fun, and has a great plot line, not to mention a whole amazing look and feel.
Rating: Summary: So enjoyable! Review: Runaway: A road adventure is a very original and enjoyable game. Where do i start, where do i start... I loved the puzzles. even though, as some mentioned, some of the puzzles are a little weird and not very logical, anyone can pick up after a while that that was part of the game. typical hollywood plot, mafia people, drag queens, aliens, beautiful girl who doesnt turn out to be who we thought... it all fits together. my point is that once you 'get' the mentality of the game, you should be fine. i personally loved the puzzles, and also the fact that you couldnt do certain things until something else happened made the game much more realistic in my opinion. I am a big fun of the Broken Sword and Monkey Island games, and one of the reasons why i like them so much is because of the cartoonish, handpainted graphics. This is also the reason why i got interested in Runaway in the first place. believe me the screenshots don't do this game justice, and the animations in the game during the cutscenes are amazing. The characters are many, interesting and original so that you remember each and every one of them. the music is nice, the voice acting is not perfect but still alright. There is some pixel hunting, but nothing you can't find if you are patient and look carefully. Finally, the plot was not groundbreaking, but it did keep my interest and it was fun. i especially loved the way i was introduced to each new chapter, and the long ending scene, which was both satisfaying but then kept me wanting more. that's when you know you've played a good game. My only complaint? It should have been longer! If you are an adventure games fan, this one is not to be missed. I can't wait for Runaway 2. P.S.: Unlike some reviewers who experienced bug problems, I experienced none. The game run smoothly from start to finish, even when I would switch from game view to Windows view.
Rating: Summary: yeah right Review: The game is great.it's like the "broken sword" and i spent a lot of time to end it.go and take.the graphics are very good and good made.yeah
Rating: Summary: Really enjoyable game with great graphics Review: The graphics on this game are really wonderful--very pleasing to the eye with lots of fun detail, too. The game is fantastic! Puzzles are fun, the characters are interesting, and the plot keeps you interested. I was looking for a new game that reminded me a bit of the games I've enjoyed, like Leisure Suit Larry. This game plays like LSL except it's rated PG instead of X! I've also enjoyed the Nancy Drew games, but "Runaway: A Road Adventure" is much more what I've been looking for in a game. This is a great game! I highly recommend giving it a try!
Rating: Summary: fun characters Review: This game is reminiscent of the Monkey Island series by Lucas Arts which is not a bad thing at all. The animation is great and the characters have tons of personality. Game play is pretty fun, I got a little drifty due to lack of challenge. The problem solving is not based on reality logic. You have to use logic according to what you have in your inventory. It's a very short game, I think I logged about 5-7 hours total and like I said, my attention was drifting frequently. Even though it wasn't a huge challenge, it's still a good game for the adventure players. I find games like Syberia way overrated and zero challenge except for the fact that I must finish it so Runaway IS worthwhile. Interesting factoid: the main female voice (a few characters played by her) is also a voice in quite a few games out there...Nancy Drew in particular. I recommend buy it, play it, resell it!
Rating: Summary: Totally absorbing and original game..... Review: This game is so different from many of the adventures that are out there right now. It is no wonder that it's been such a huge hit all over Europe, and if the word gets out here in the US, I think people will really enjoy it, too, since the characters are excellent, the screen art is absolutely amazing and different and the story is entertaining and fun. The game starts out in New York but turns into a sort of road trip across America, passing through ghost towns, deserts, chicago and a whole assortment of other places. Like I said before, the artwork in this game is so great (the portrayals of the Indian lands and ruins are awesome) and is much different from the other games I've seen lately. You can spend lots of time just looking at the amusing details in the background, but that is only a small part of it all... The game in general and puzzles are neither too difficult nor too easy, the secondary characters (especially Rutger the yawaskel-growing dude and Sushi the teenage computer brain girl who helps you out of the mess you're in) are all hilarious...and the situations are just so different from other games I've played (enlisting the help of a trio of drag queen commandos!, meeting with Hopi Indian spirits)... I definitely recommend playing this adventure if you feel like getting addicted to a game for a while and want something different but highly entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Buggy Game Review: This game is very nice but you will be lucky if you finish it. It is full of bugs and crashes continuously. I gave up at chapter 3.
Rating: Summary: Half Good.... and then Half Disappointing Review: This game started really cool with an intriguing mystery. The first two chapters were good at building that mystery. The third chapter was just for fun but a lot of its puzzles were getting more and more illogical. From chapter 3 and beyond, a lot of puzzles just seemed to be created to prolong the game in artificial way (you already figured out the answer but you still have to keep going back and forth to complete certain missions). It became frustrating. Chapter 4 went back to the mystery and it looked like the story was really proceeding to an interesting dicovery. Chapter 5 was short. And then the last chapter came along and the whole mystery crumbled...turned out to be pretty much about nothing! It was so very VERY disappointing. The story basically lost its draw from that point on and became meaningless and boring. Yet, I still have to complete the chapter to see the ending which was just plain silly hollywood. I like playing 3rd person adventure games, especially the cartoonish types (heard about Monkey Island series?) I liked this game at first and wanted to keep liking it but this game just let me down in a big way with complete betrayal of its own story. So what does this game got? It got beautiful graphics, smooth animation and two good chapters. I would like to give this game 2.5 stars but Amazon doesn't allow that. Sadly, this game lacks the "magic" - the thing that draws you into the world inside the game and care about what happens to the characters. Or rather, it loses the magic along the way. If you have been starved for a good 3rd person, cartoon-type game like me, this game will satisfy you about 1/3, but that is still better than nothing at all, I guess. I say this game is worth about 10 bucks or less. So be warned. This game has some good things going on at first but it will lose them along the way and then disappoint you in a big way at the end.
