Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed - This One's A Sleeper (MP) Review: I think a clearer distinction should have been made between Single Player (SP) and Multiplayer (MP) in some of the magazine reviews. I was pleased with the SP component but MP was horrible! I say "was" because I "binned" it after trying to force myself to like it. Most Annoying Aspects about MP: 1) There are only three Capture the Flag (CTF) maps! 2) There is no 1 vs 1 mod! 3) The scoring system in CTF is such that wins are based on score (not flag captures) so essentially it's just Death Match with flags (frag your opponents more than they frag you and you win) 4) The jumping is slow (almost like a perpetual low gravity) 5) You have to reload the weapons even though they are energy based weapons, which slows down gameplay (reload ENERGY weapons?! c'mon!) 6) BORING global taunts (no individual taunts/gestures). 7) The chat/HUD font is microscopic if your resolution is set to 1024 x 768 or higher (it's not adjustable...trust me). 8) The netcode is awful (if you try to run a server). it eats bandwidth like King Kong Bundy at a pie eating contest. Normally I could support 16 players on my network (lag free). However, there's tremendous lag if even eight players connect. 9) No support for Linux?! wtf? Are they serious? I'm not running Linux, but I intend to have a Linux comp. online shortly. c'mon! In the past that was acceptable but in this day and age you would think they would KNOW to provide Linux support right out of the box. The game play mechanics are similar to UT2K3 (without the double jump). It's not at all what you would expect from a game based on the Quake 3 engine...and that's a bad thing. If I wanted to play UT2K3, I would play UT2K3 because it has FAR better graphics. No wonder they didn't include a MP component in the demo. If you're looking for an average single player PC-based First Person Shooter game with a Star Trek theme, this game is for you. I wanted a good (not even great) multiplayer First Person Shooter. A total waste of money. If I could have borrowed it from a friend or rented it, I would have done that because it is definitely not a keeper. Let the buyer beware!
Rating: Summary: Could have been much better Review: When the first Armada came out, I was hooked. I played all summer, over and over again. The AI challenged me, and the game never seemed dull. When Armada II came out, I jumped up and got it, and the second I started playing it, I turned it off. The storyline is old and reused - yet another Borg threat. The graphics are sub-par to the original (in my opinion), and the game itself suffers from unrealistic timing. While any RTS needs to produce units fast, the speed which Sovereign class vessels are built is utterly ridiculous. The balance is way off, allowing you to build two or three 16 ship fleets of your top class, and utterly wipe everything out easily. Instead, the game should focus on making small, tough armies using multiple tactics to force your way through, like Warcraft III. The idea would be maybe 4 Akiras with 2 Galaxys, 2 Sovereigns, 6 Sabers, and 2 Intrepids - each with their own strategies and special weapons. Then you can use each class to it's fullest. Worst is the resources - the cost of ships is so low, you never truly have to worry - honestly! I never worried. All I concentrated on was building up enough Sovereigns to wipe everyone out. The AI is the worst - the AI never does anything other than try to take all the resources, and then just launch constant strikes - thats it. Even worse, Instant Action games fail to work most of the time. The AI builds a resource base, then simply never work anything again - no ships, no defenses, nothing. It's pitiful. I recommend buying the game, even with it's flaws. It can still be fun sometimes, and there are a wealth of mod sites that improve balance and playability (such as armada2files.com)
Rating: Summary: Sweet Review: Great Game. Superb graphics. I would also like to say that the woman who cancelled the order because their is no Alexendra Munro is passing up the best sequel ever. Her raiting of 1 star was based on her thinking the company was marketig to men only. If it bothers you that much go get Laura Croft Tomb Raider.
Rating: Summary: Finally Boldly Going... Review: When first Starfleet Command came to store shelves, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Then I did, only to find the game was a piece...The case was similar with the slightly improved Starfleet Command II. Starfleet Command III, however, showed me that not all the SFC games have to [be so bad]. First, the graphics are far better than the visuals in the previous two. The textures are extremely detailed and the ships look absolutely fantastic. Also, even though the graphics look great, the minimum requirements are surprisingly low (unless of course you have a CPU that is below a Pentium III and a graphics card that [is bad]. Plus, while SFC purists may not like it (which I can't understand), the interface in this game is simplified to the point where you can actually access everything easily. The interfaces of the previous two games were way too convoluted and seemed to only serve to slow down the pace of the combat; you pretty much had to go through about 50 submenus to simply reinforce a shield! Its surprising how much more enjoyable an SFC game is when you simply take out the 1 million or so menus and submenus from the interface. There is also a very eclectic collection of ships to choose from; each ship varies in speed, maneuverability, and weaponry and can by customized. While the game is very enjoyable overall, it seems to be missing the strategic challenge present in the previous two titles and the combat can actually become tedious at times. Also, while the previous games enabled players to choose from six or more races to play as, SFC III's number of races is restricted to four (the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and the Borg). Overall, if you like Star Trek and have the urge to pilot one of your favorite ships from the Star Trek: TNG universe, this game is for you.
Rating: Summary: Trekkies Review Review: I found this game quite auxilerating as I played it. I hope that activision decides to make an expansion pack for this game and then it will most certainly be better than the first. I played the demo and instantly ordered the game. I found it 10x better than the first and I hope people are urged to try it.
Rating: Summary: WHOO-HOOO! STAR TREK! Review: Great Star Trek game... wait... what am I saying? Awesome Star Trek Game! Its even supposed to have a level where you fight on the hull of the Enterprise E! This is gonna be one of the best games ever. The demo is awesome!
Rating: Summary: If this is the Demo, can't wait for the retail version Review: Finally a shooter that requires some thinking as well. Graphices are highly improved since the original. I can not wait for the retail version.
Rating: Summary: Looks extremely promising Review: If the full version is anything like the demo, Activision will almost certainly score big with EF2. This game has the potential to be the best selling Trek game of all time. I think the fan base will eat it up, and all FPS lovers alike will enjoy it even if they are not into Trek. I am very impressed with the demo, and anxiously await the release of the full version this week.
Rating: Summary: The Levelord LOVES this game! Review: ...best game he's evar played. He told me he's ordered three copies already. You should too! ... ;)
Rating: Summary: Based on the Demo...... WOW Review: This purchase for me is a no brainer. I haven't been really "moved" by a game in ages, since half life 1. This game..... INTENSE action and the enemy's are incredible... The graphics are intense and VERY detailed. You won't believe your eyes. Creepy and excellent gameplay give this game a BIG thumbs up from me. I thought Elite Force 1 was toooo easy... This follow up is RIGHT ON THE MONEY... Thank god, a decent game for the summer.
