Rating: Summary: A fun game, but with a few flaws Review: At the first sight and play, Grand Theft Auto 3 seem to be what many had said, the game of the year. Well, at first, I agree with that, but after a few hours of play, I thought otherwise. Well you see, this game allow you to have the freedom to do what you want, and at any cost. You don't even die in the game, you are just "wasted"... The missions are more or less the same... killing or escorting... but the number of vehicles you can drive is large. It's very fun to be able to given the freedom to chose what you want to drive (Just pull the driver out). There are ambulance or police missions, but after a while it became quite monotonous and hard. And some of the missions are ridiculously hard and time isn't on your side. The AI is also not perfect... Drivers will aimlessly switch lanes, and the police are only out to get you. Other gangster that commit crimes on the street, the police will just ignore them! And saving game is another problem... you just can't save as and when you like and it's very fustrating to have to drive all the way back to listen to your mission again. But don't get me wrong, GTA3 is still a very fun game, and will be even better without those flaws. The mp3 player in the cars is very innovative and good.
Rating: Summary: Grand Theft Auto III Review: Grand Theft Auto III is a third person shooter with lots of drivable vehicles. Set in Liberty city you play a crimnal who works as thug for the local mafia. The single player gameplay is orginal and outstanding, you are allowed to drive almost every vehicle in the game, go anywhere and do anything. It has no multiplayer. I played the game in the Direct3D video mode and it runs great. The graphics are great and the design of the city is excellent, you feel like you are driving through a real city. The only bad thing in the game is that some of the missions are very hard. Gta3 is one of the best games ever made and it is a not to be missed game.
Rating: Summary: A new Classic Review: What can I say that you haven't heard from everyone before. Look at my rating of 5 stars - I love this game. I'm playing through it a second time right now, and I'm having at least as much fun as I did the first time. The game is complete and immersive. It's wonderful to behold this little seemingly-functional city that exists only as your playground. It will change the way you look at the world around you, that much is for certain. As a die-hard PC enthusiast, though, I want to warn those PC players who are not used to console ports. Remember that GTA III originally came out on the PS/2. Unfortunately, the evidence of that port lingers on. I only mention these things because this is such a good game. Keep in mind these are small complaints, at least for me, but if you expect your games to be a technical masterpiece, some things that may bug you include: 1) The 'generators' are too close to your character at high resolution. Although at TV resolution, you can't see very far down the road, at 1024x768 or higher, you CAN, and you can with clarity. Cars 'appear' too close to the character, even with drawing distance set to maximum, and they also disappear too soon. 2) Level loading delay. The actual level load is not long, but there is a noticible pause every time the game loads a new texture. Luckily, this is only done once per texture if you have a decent graphics card, but it still means that the first time you enter any new area on a level, you'll have some jerkiness until everything is loaded. Other than that, the game is wonderful to play and watch. It's been fun for months!
Rating: Summary: The Good and the Bad Review: Had I written this review a few months ago, I would have given Grand Theft Auto 3 a 5-star, glowing review. But that was then, and this is now. When I first purchased this game, it was all I played. I couldn't speak more highly of it. I knew a couple of people who had played it, and it sounded great. And, for a couple of months, it really was. But somewhere along the way, it just got tiring. I will probably get yelled at for saying this, but: it's a really hard game. I know, I know, video games aren't supposed to be easy, and I don't expect them to be, but this one is just insane. Some things I overlooked when I first started playing, because I was "blinded by love", but now I see them clear-as-day. Just the fact that you can't save a game at any old time is very annoying. You have to get to your hideout to save a game, and sometimes your hideout seems to be a million miles away. You can't save during a mission, so if you die or get arrested, you lose all of your weapons, and lose money. You never realize how wonderful quicksave/quickload is until it is taken away from you. There isn't even any difficulty levels to choose from. The timed missions are sometimes excruciating, and they can take multiple tries to accomplish. And ever since I started playing again recently, I've noticed that the audio is all messed up, which makes it annoying to listen to cut-scenes and the radio stations. But here are the good points: it's fairly open-ended. I can take any car I want and drive it to wherever I want, and choose the radio station I want to listen to. The radio stations are probably one of the highlights of the game - every single one is wonderful. Plus, with the PC version of the game, you can make your own MP3 station and put whatever songs on it that you'd like. The graphics are great, and each island is huge - so huge it's easy to get lost. And just standing on the sidewalk, watching passers-by is entertainment enough (today I saw a cop run over an old man!). So I can't give this game a really bad review because it did hold my interest for quite a while. It's a clever, highly-addictive game, and worth the money. For anyone who is looking for a real challenge with close to a hundred hours of gameplay, this game is for you. For anyone who isn't...don't say I didn't warn you.
Rating: Summary: DROOL! Review: GTA III is strangely compelling. Although it works neither as an FPS (unimpressive arsenal of weapons, lacks "Max Payne" gritty realism, inability to enter most buildings and bad camera angles) or a driving sim (no real cars, elementary physics model), its non-linear approach is insanely compelling. Prepare to spend hours just driving around Liberty City and exploring the environment...
Rating: Summary: great game but not until... Review: This game is pretty awesome but heres a word of advice for everyone who's game is lagging go to options then display setup and then turn off the trails and fool around with the options. To make the game have better graphics change the screen resoulution to the highest possible.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but for mature gamers only Review: Grand Theft Auto III (PC) is a first-person nonlinear driving game. Game play revolves around crime, driving and more crime. The game itself is nicely rendered with solid graphics and sound. The PC version allows the dedicated gamer to import MP3 files for custom tunes from a virtual radio. I had some trouble with system locks from my motherboard-based sound card. Installation of a Sound Blaster card and disabling the motherboard sound feature resolved this problem. GTA3 requires a heavy-duty system. My Pentium 4 1.7 with 512 megabyte of RAM and a GeForce3 video card works well enough, but I would not recommend running the game with less. A controller like the Gravis Gamepad Pro is highly recommended. The game is clearly a PlayStation2 "port," a video game adapted for the PC without many changes. This is an advantage and a disadvantage. The game looks and plays well, but it doesn't really take advantage of the PC's unique strengths. The controls are not terribly intuitive and may be awkward, particularly because the user occasionally has to move between the gamepad, the keyboard and the mouse. GTA3 is mostly about mayhem in a vehicular form. The game is nonlinear and allows the player to just drive the streets of Liberty City. You can steal a cab and work for fares, steal a ambulance and work as a paramedic, steal a fire engine... do you see a pattern here? The game also has a number of crime "missions" dispensed by Liberty City bosses, all pretty much criminal stereotypes. The game flows well and the visual effects create a range of "moods." The violence, however, can be unnerving for some. Pulling drivers out of cars and running over pedestrians is an inherent part of the game. After being trapped in real world traffic, it is fun to simply blow through Liberty City at high speed ignoring every traffic law. The police don't really care about moving violations, so there's little incentive to brake for red lights or yield the right-of-way. The City legal system is very forgiving, perhaps modeled on a major U.S. city. All crimes are absolved with a fine... even those where you'd expect the death penalty. What's the verdict? GTA3 can be a very fun video-style game for the mature PC gamer, however, parents should be aware the game is a "poster child" for the kind of media violence criticized in Senate hearings. If you are buying the game as a gift for a younger game, do the right thing. Rent a copy of the PS2 version and play or watch a few minutes.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: This game is incredible. You run around stealing cars, and completing missions for cash. If you are seen by the cops, the chase is on, which is full of narrow escapes, that often cause your car to flip over, then explode. You can also become a police officer, a taxi driver, a paramedic, and more by stealing those cars. Violent, yet highly entertaining. I recommend it to those who are not disturbed by blood pouring out of bodies, or taking the property of others.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but heavily flawed game Review: GTA3 was easily the most hyped game around. Is it good? Yes. Is it worthy of the hype? I don't think so. GTA3's only real problems are mostly small, but there are so many it is impossible to ignore. Gameplay 3/5 Missions are varied and fun, but the terrible saving system makes redoing missions involving a lot of traveling and work very repetitive and frusterating. Exploring the city in the beginning isn't anywhere near as fun as it could have been, since you aren't allowed full access to the entire city, which sort of kills the fun out of having "open ended gameplay". I know this is probably asking too much, but the ability to walk around buildings would be nice. The AI is definetly the worst I have ever seen. Cars would stop in front of a rolled over car, and instead of driving around it, they would sit there and honk at it for a while. The police have the aiming abilities of a monkey on crack, and while attempting to hit me, would crouch under their car to hide. Which is fine, except for the fact that they usually do this on the side of the car I'm at. Graphics 2/5 Poor and lacking detail, but kudos for having so many things on the screen without slowdown. Careless graphical glitches are everywhere, everything from water appearing from nowhere on a dock to not being able to see your car. Sound 3/5 The talk radio station and commercials are great, but the actual soundtrack is uninteresting and highly repetitive. After a week of playing, I had heard everything there was over and over again. Replay value 2/5 Starting over again isn't really that appealing, and mini-missions are absolutely terrible. Entertainment 3/5 Worth a try, but certainly not for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Why? Review: I saw this game at a friend's home, played it briefly, and then left in disgust. The DC sniper killed at least 11 people, thousands died on 9/11/01 when terrorists hijacked airliners and used them as a missiles against us, and there was in Iraq. I can certainly see why we need video games replete with theft and violence. Technically, this game is impressive. But, an artist who makes a technically perfect painting of a pile of garbage should not expect me to admire his work.
