Rating: Summary: Great game, but technically frustrating for PC Review: I got hooked on the PS2 version of this game during the semester and had to buy it so I could get my GTA3 fix over the summer. As a game, I can't say anything about GTA3 that hasn't been already said. It's incredibly immersive and just plain nice to look at. Anyone who enjoyed "Goodfellas" or "Pulp Fiction" would love this gaming experience. There are some additional perks to the PC version. The load up speed is rediculous . . . I haven't waited more than 2 seconds for a saved game to load. The mp3 player and replay are fun gimmicks.I am disappointed with the huge system requirements of the PC port. I have a Pent4 1.3gHz, 384MB, 32MB GeForce2 (all at or well above recommended specs). To make the game playable, I have to turn the res all the way down, turn off all programs running in the background, etc. I've updated my system, reformatted, and it hasn't fixed anything. In time-dependent missions, the shaky performance is a killer. I definitely recommend this game as long as you have the system to run it smoothly.
Rating: Summary: Worth the money... IF you've got the speed Review: With a 600 mhz AMD Athlon and ATI Rage 128 Pro, it's almost unbearably slow. With an improvement in the video card category, it runs MUCH better. However, the minimum and even the recommended requirements listed on the box are very hopeful and very doubtful. I've got above the minimum and just below the recommended and I cannot enjoy it to the fullest extent. Just be wary of YOUR speed and be ready to upgrade the computer if you want real performance. With the graphics turned all the way down in the game, it still lacks in continuity. Once upgraded, a great purchase.
Rating: Summary: one of the best games i've ever played. Review: This review is going to be short as I want to get back to playing this game! I just have to say that this game is amazing! The amount of effort put into this game by the developers is unbelievable and far exceeds the norm. The city is an interactive virtual world that feels real down to every single detail. Pedestrians act realistically when you start causing mayhem. Point your gun at one of them and each person's reaction is even mixed from running or standing still and holding their hands up. Fire hydrants explode when you run over them. Drive by a hooker in a nice car and they'll jump in--ready for some action in a secluded place. Cars stop at stoplights. Streetgangs attack each other. What really makes everything work is the beautiful graphics and the enormity of the game world. You can easily spend hours driving around town admiring all the details. The city looks as realistic as any major city. You have the slums, nice condos, airport, parks, docks, quickie marts, overpasses, laundry stores, overpasses, freeway tunnels. Everything is there. Best of all the loading times are virtually non-existant when driving through the city. The suspension of disbelief will not be interrupted by long pauses or loading times. I haven't even discussed gameplay which is a blast. You can play the traditional story-based missions or complete various other missions from stealing a cab and driving people around to jacking certain types of vehicles to be whisked away on a ship. Perhaps you'd want to play an innocent obstacle course challenge or maybe a much more violent rampage one. There is just so much to do here. I'm addicted to this game. All I have to say is to try it out and you'll see what an amazing game this is.
Rating: Summary: Grand Theft Auto 3: Must get if you have a good system. Review: i just got Grand theft auto 3 about 4 hours ago. So i am not very far, but far enough to tell you how great this game is. This game is a must buy for MATURE people. There is alot of swearing and and violence, so if you dont like violence, don't buy it. Oh and buy they way, this game runs great on my system at 800x600x16 (never tried any higher). System specs are: Intel Celeron 1.3 GHZ 384 Megs sdram Vortex sound card 32 meg Geforce 2 mx400 card (yes thats right Geforce 2 mx400) 40 gig hard drive 7200 rpm 16X dvd drive and who carez about the rest. A lot of people had alot of problems with the Geforce 2 mx400 but i have none. And i even have a [bad] celeron instead of a pentium. I would recommened at least 800 mhz 16 meg card and 128 megs of ram to run this game half descent
Rating: Summary: Highly immersive, high replay value Review: Absolutely one of the most immersive games I have seen, from the great audio (both ambient and "soundtrack" provided by an in-car radio) to the fantastic graphics and interesting tidbits like weather (from rain and fog to sunny) and variable traffic patterns during the day (Rush hour is a PITA). I am currently playing on a P3-850MHZ with 640MB of RAM and a GeForce3 Ti200 graphics card, and the gameplay and graphics are smooth as silk (including running between islands during the game). Note, if you don't have the recommended specs for this game, don't even think about buying it until your computer is up to snuff. Memory and a good graphics card are key. The premise of the game is that you are a small-time thug. You can (and probably will) engage in various and increasingly lethal acts of violence as the game progresses. WARNING: this is an incredibly violent game, and not for kids. I have spent several hours just walking around the city. This is actually a rewarding experience, in game, because there are hidden secrets to find which actually increase your ability to finish the missions. If you are a fan of games such as Max Payne, this is right up your alley, but keep it away from the kids.
Rating: Summary: FUN once I got it running... Review: Just in case others have similar problems: I had trouble getting the game to even start; likely having to do with my video drivers. Anyway, what ended up working was changing my desktop color settings from 32 bit to 16 before starting the game. This game is huge fun, and reminds me of the old Carmageddon series with better graphics. Yep, the graphics are stellar with huge areas rendered in great detail, but the price for all this 3D splendor is that you'd better have a hella system to run it on. I've got an Athlon 1.2 ghz. with a geForce 2 mx200 32 meg video card and 256 megs of system ram, and it's just playable at the minimum resolution of 640 x 480. Depending on how much of the area is currently being drawn to the screen (i.e. how many buildings, cars, pedestrians), it eithers runs super smooth under low graphical demand, or it starts to chug when the object count gets high, but even then it is still playable; just a bit annoying. I'm thinking you'll need a 1 ghz PC with a geForce 3 to truly get this thing running right and at higher resolutions. I'm tempted to go for that new video card right now... ...because this game looks stunning! While you're out walking, you either have third person or top down view. In the cars, you have a variety of views, including first person full-screen mode. Heck, I haven't even done any of the over 100 included missions yet. I spent my first two hours just walking through the world admiring the sights and sounds. The world feels more alive than any other game I can remember, with huge numbers of pedestrians and cars and trucks going about their business. I stood atop a building and walked away from the computer. After a while, I thought I heard a thunderstorm outside, but it turned out to be in the game world. The sounds were amazingly real. There are also day/night cycles, and coversations between pedestrians. The vehicles all handle different from one another, and all controls work just fine.
Really, you can buy this to play the game if you want to (and that's fun too), but to me it was worth it just to explore the vast virtual world.
Rating: Summary: WOAH, GOOD GAME TO THE EXTREME Review: This, has got to be one of the best games I have ever played IN MY LIFE! I would give it 5.5 stars if i could. The graphics, plot, game play, sound, heck even the voice acting in the cut scenes is EXTRAORDINARY! This is a must have for ANY PC gamer. You can just sit an play this game for hours on end. And then you will wonder where all the time went. If you do all of the missions, you are only 70% finished. THAT MEANS THAT 30% of the GAME IS EXTRA WAY COOL FAR OUT STUFF?! BUY THIS NOW! BEFORE IT GETS TAKEN FROM THE SHELVES FOR VIOLENCE!
Rating: Summary: totally inferior! Review: I own many PC games, and I must say this game is the most inferior. the quaility of gameplay and sound is Extremely poor. Playablity is for anyone that does not have an intelligent mind. It has NO plot, no Purpose, and no point, did I forget to mention the game goes NO WHERE! I would advise to get Max Payne instead. It is more fun, the graphics rock in Max Payne, even Hitman Codename 47 is better than this one. I would not advise to get it. The game is way to buggy. If you do get it good luck on getting it to run well on your system. I would give it -10 stars if I could! Better luck next time with Grand Theft Auto 4?
Rating: Summary: System Requirements Are Higher Than You Think... Review: While this game is a blast to play, I think the system requirements are understated. If you have a sub-700mhz computer with a 16mb graphics card or less, DON'T BUY THIS GAME YET! The graphics are very detailed and your computer will not be able to play at full- or even half-speed. If you're cooking with a pentium 3 or better, have a 32mb graphics card, and don't have children running around, you should definitely check it out! I was able to play this game on a celeron 500 system with a 16mb graphics card, but it was pretty choppy. Running on a Pentium 4 with a 32mb graphics card was much more fun. Overall, GTA3 seems to be pretty reliable. This game has NEVER CRASHED on any system I've played it on. There are great cheats available in case you get bored or frustrated trying to accomplish the missions. ... Also note... there are known issues with certain models of graphics cards that have not yet been patched... for more information on patches and bugs [search the internet].
Rating: Summary: Best Game Ever Made! Review: Well folks, this is it! This is what the gamers around the world had been waiting for since Privateer. This game is simply revolutionary in terms of gameplay and the amount of freedom that it offers.
For years the gaming industry have been churning out clones that looked pretty but lacked substance and gameplay, Quake clones and warcraft clones abound. GTA3 bucked that trend and resoundingly announced that in the gaming industry innovation pays (6 million copies and counting). Whether you are a casual "playa" or die hard guru this is the game that you must have. You can try to finish every single one of the nonlinear missions, jump every stunt ramps, find every hinden package, which would take months of combing. Or you can just blow off some steam by running around steal cars, rob old ladies, beat up hookers, or blow up SUVs and/or other items of conspicuous consumption. The possibility and replay value is endless. Trust me get this game. Thanks rockstar! p.s. multiplayer would've been nice. But as a programmer myself who sometimes dable in the arcane art of game making, I understand why adding additional features that is not well thought out to a game that is almost perfect may detract from the original title. Those who are in the know will often tell you that the difference between features and bugs are so very delicate.
