Rating: Summary: DONT BELIEVE THE LOW-SCORE REVIEWS Review: GTA 3 is a blast, hands down. Any reviewer that gave it any lower than 4 stars is either: (1) does not own either a decent PC or a PS2 and wants to express his agony by making up lies about this game that would persuade some clueless people not to buy it, because he is a fool that thinks that if he cant enjoy it, no one should. (2) is lost in this massive game because he is used to playing linear platformers. (3) does not know how to download a patch or call tech support. (4) does not know how to adjust the resolution and other settings in the game menu...If you dont have a PS2, but have a PC, it does not mean that you have to rush to the store or order it online. Your PC should be beefed up for this baby, because this is no Half-Life. Even though it isnt a very attractive game, and the sys reqs technically should not be that high. You need, at least the recommended requirements, but to really enjoy it and play at 60+ fps at 1024 X 768 X 32, you need (A) P4 CPU (B) Top-of-the-line Geforce 3 [ this is a somewhat unsuccessful PS2 to PC port, so you dont really need to get a Geforce 4 Ti 4600 for it if you dont have one) (C) 256 Megabytes of RandomAccessMemory. With this harware you should get far better picture quality and frame rates than the PS2.
Rating: Summary: Great game, but not for PC Review: This is probably the best game there is on the market, FOR PS2. Because I don't have PS2, I bought the game for PC figuring it would be just as much fun. Unfortunately, I never got to find out. The system requirements are unbelievable. Sure I was able to install it, but the game wuldn't run because it requires 12MB of audio memory. I created as much space as possible on my comp. ant it still wouldn't run. Unless you have the world's greatest PC supermachine, don't waste your money on this ...
Rating: Summary: Driven Away! Review: Great graphics, storyline, audio and features. I couldn't give it five stars due to the initial problems I had loading it...freeze and crash. However, I was running an ATI Radeon 8500 with only 64 MB of memory. It runs VERY WELL on the GeForce4 Ti 4600 with 128 MBs. So if you have the right equipment, I recommend this game.
Rating: Summary: I finally make it ! 27FPS @1024 x 768 x 32bit with my GF2 MX Review: Yes, I just make it so fast and never feel so good with my GF2 MX400 to play GTA3. Just few days ago, like some gamers I met here that we all complain why GTA3 runs so slow with GF2 MX. I believe a number of gamers like me just have GF2 MX but can run GTA3 at poor FPS and only at 640 x 480 x 16 bit. My comp is D700Mhz(oc 850Mhz),256Ram,MSI K7TPro,MSI Starforce Geforce2 Mx 32M SDRM. I was almost out when I could not play GTA3 but my comp can run very fast for almost all other recent FPS games and never drops to a hell resolution at 640x480 ( Duke Nukem ?). But things does change dramatically after I did these, 1. Download and install the newest detonator driver v.29.42 (...). It was released in last month and most optimized for DX8.1. After I install this, my MSI Starforce Geforece 2 Mx becomes to Nvidia GF2 MX400 !!! ( If you haven't installed DX8.1 in your comp, then install it !!!) 2. Right click desktop, and click "property" of the popup menu to bring up "Display Property" dialog box, click "Setting" label, click "Advance settings", you can see there is a new label named " GF2 MX /MX400". Click the "property" on this label, and click "D3D setting". In the "MIP texture" options, choose "high performance" and click OK. 3. Download and install patch v1.1 (June 28) for GTA3. ( ...) 4. Download and install an inofficial patch for GTA3 known as "HFPS v5.1". It can improve FPS by removing rain, seagull, leaf and newpapers on the ground and many other un-noticeable things and it works very good on my comp to gear up the speed. ( ... Thank you so much Sheepy, for creating such a wonderful patch !!! ) 5. Run GTA3 (close all applications as far as you can find before run the game, and the better run defrag before you play), and go to "display setup" and now you can find the default resolution is up to 720 x 576 x 16bit !! Change it to 1024 x 768 x 32 bit (use your mousewheel to adjust) and turn off "Trails" effect !! 6. Play and enjoy !!! I love GTA3 and love my GF2 (too) !! I am sure your FPS can be up to 25 frames/s now !! The four PC games I ever love the most : Duke Nukem, Half-Life, Mark Payne, and now GTA3 ! The game I most expect : Duke Nukem for ever, but never comes.
Rating: Summary: steal shoot steal shoot Review: the game is a blast from the start.but some of the missions are hard to complete and if u fail you have to start that mission all over again so it isnt that fun in that aspect.anyway the game is overall fun you can steal ANY car and shoot or kill ANYONE you want to. + there are mini missions to do like picking up people in taxis and taking them to thier desired location and taking injured people to the hospital. The gameplay is very repetitive because you do the same thing over and over and over. that gets very old after a while. I recommend this game to everyone.but keep this game away from little kids or they may become violent
Rating: Summary: Has some bugs Review: I own a AMD athlon 850 and it gets a little jerky on some areas I don't know what it is but my computer makes the recomended requirments. NOT MINIMUM and it still isn't doing that well. Some system it does well and others it doesn't I recomend it if you have a 1.0 ghz or higher. otherwise you probably may think about it.
Rating: Summary: Hmmmm, I don't know. Review: To start, I give 4 stars. It's probably the best experience you can get out of a video game. It's totally fun, completely irreverent, outrageously complex, and hilarious to play. Why not 5 stars? It's not overwhelmingly entertaining. I'm just not captivated by the missions. They're short and not threaded together well. I started playing about a week ago. I've killed pimps, run over Chinese food vendors, driven hookers to a policeman's ball, planted a bomb in a rival lord's car, and painted a rival gang leader's car pink. Each of these missions takes all of 3 minutes to complete if they're easy, and a painfully repetetive series of 3 minute attempts if they're difficult. I'm guessing that the play keeps going, I doubt if it keeps getting more interesting, and I really doubt that the plots weave a deeper storyline. So this is probably the best game of 2001 and 2002, but it's not the end of video games. I think there could be a lot of ground to make up in the plot to keep someone like me engaged.
Rating: Summary: back to the drawing board for this one! Review: I thought this was going to be a cool game, I mean the idea behind it all sounds good, but the minute I poped it into my brand new 1.2 gig computer with GeForce 128bit graphics card, I then realized I have been had! This game ran so bad I cant understand why it is even being sold. I mean if you are going to sell a game, make sure it works. I have a pretty superior system to run it on, and it did not work. I can imagine how it runs on older computers. I recommend getting Half-life its a little dated now, but it will run like a gem. HitMan Codename 47 is pretty cool, great shooter. For racing get Need For Speed, I would pass this one up. I think Rockstar games better get back to the drawing board and fix this one. I know never to buy any games made by Rockstar ever again.

Rating: Summary: The game that lets you do what you've always secretly wanted Review: Grand Theft Auto III (GTA3) is the PC Version of one of the most successful games ever released for the Sony Playstation 2. GTA3 begins with a small introduction about your character's botched robbery and his subsequent escape from prison. After crawling out of a burning prison transport, your character and another inmate steal a car and hook up with your partner's crime friends. From there, your character is free to pursue a prison-free life of crime. I never played the previous GTAs for the PC nor GTA3 on the Sony Playstation 2 so I can only tell you about this game from the viewpoint of someone who is completely new to the GTA series and my opinion is very high. This is one of the most addictive games I've played in years. Who knew jacking cars, selling narcotics and carrying out hits could be so fun? Your character is allowed to steal any car or take out any pedestrian in GTA3 and it almost makes me feel guilty that I find this game so entertaining. If you already own GTA3 on the Playstation 2, I wouldn't recommend purchasing the PC version as it is a duplicate with enhanced graphics for the PC. Probably the only options for GTA3 on the PC not available for the Playstation are the abilities to put in your own skins for your main character thus making him look like whomever you want and copying your own MP3 files into the game to make your own custom radio station when driving a car. One of the only complaints I have about GTA3 is sometimes it feels like a console game. It almost feels like it would run smoother with a console controller and although I have a Microsoft Sidewinder controller hooked up to my PC, it doesn't run that well because the camera angle can only be controlled by keyboards when walking around town. (It works fine when driving though.). I haven't played console games in a while so it was obvious to me how the game was designed to run on a console with repetitive quests that were timed or other common elements I remember from consoles games I have played. The repetitive game play makes the game boring quicker than usual but you'll have a great time for the first few days. ACTION FANS - 4 STARS - This is one of few games that is not a first person shooter that I would recommend for PC action gaming fans. The stunt driving that the game allows you to perform in corvettes, hummers, 18-wheelers, luxury cars, etc. are loads of fast-paced fun. STRATEGY FANS - 1 STAR - Not much strategy is involved in GTA3. Some of the tasks require a little planning to complete them but most of it is trial by error. ADVENTURE/RPG FANS - 3 STARS - There are some great stories in GTA3. Your character joins every crime faction from the Mafia to the Yakuza and fun short clips are involved in each mission you are sent on. As the game goes on, you are allowed more access to powerful weapons. Not a true RPG in any sense but a fun turn from the usual. X FACTOR - PS2 to PC TRANSFER - 2 STARS - I've already mentioned the additional options included in the PC version. It's a smooth transfer but there was so much more they could have included for a fun game like this. If an editor had come with the game, there would be a huge online fan community. BUGS - 5 STARS - I didn't experience one crash or freeze. I've heard a lot of gripes about the system performances with this game, more than most games, but I have an average system at best and didn't experience any problems. Some of the complaints may arise from the fact that this game brings in a lot of fans of the Playstation version who are maybe not familiar with the maintenance needed on a PC to make games run smoothly. REPLAY VALUE - 2 STARS - It's fun to replay some of the missions but because of the repetitive nature of the game, once it's done there really isn't much left. If the developers had released some kind of editing software, this game would have a huge replay advantage because you can guarantee that a game this thrilling would bring forth plenty of MODs.
