Rating: Summary: GTA 3 review. Review: The PS2 and PC comparison: This game is better on the PC than it was on the Playstation 2. The reason this game is better on the PC than PS2 is because the PC version has better graphics, better draw distance, you can add MP3s, smoother frames per second, you can edit the game with GTA 3 mods and you can aim with the mouse (aiming with the mouse is like aiming in Max Payne or Mafia). On the PS2 version you had to press a button to aim at people and gamers who played the PS2 version saw this as a major problem. If you don't like aiming with the mouse than you can use the old aiming system that was on the PS2.The Review: In GTA 3 you have freedom. You can pick up woman, you can run over pedestrians, you can beat people and take their money, you can steal cars, you can go on cop missions, Taxi missions, Fire Fighter missions, ambulance missions, you can fly a plane, you can drive a boat, you can get the cops after you, you can get your money back by beating up the paid woman you paid, you can shoot at anybody, you can get the military after you and the FBI, you can do almost anything in GTA 3. This game is really fun! If you are a driving fan, or a action fan or a shooting fan this game is for you!...
Rating: Summary: Way too demanding on the system Review: The makers of this game obviously didnt even attempt to optimize it for the average computer. I own a Pentium III 700 Mhz, ATI Rage video card etc. In other words, a computer that was top of the line a year or so ago. I CANNOT RUN THIS GAME ON MY SYSTEM. Way too slow to be playable, and it is hard to believe that you'll be able to play on a 1ghz system either. So either buy a 2ghz computer or play something else instead.
Rating: Summary: How not to port a game Review: What a crying shame. GTA3 is an amazing game, but I wouldn't know. Rockstar did such a ...poor job of porting this game to the PC, it almost seems like they're mocking us non-sony gamers. Anyone who can install this game and play it immediately without needing hours of technical support and screaming at your monitor must have some gift from God. The technical support, by the way, is not available to call on weekends, and it takes a minimum of 72 hours for an e-mail response. I'm not waiting nearly a week to be told that it's not compatible. My Pentium 4 computer works like a dream, but it's still not enough. It works poorly (if at all) with an optical mouse, it doesn't show text at all, the graphics are absolutely abysmal and choppy, and the blood stains are pretty much red boxes on the ground. Pity. A word of advice, listen to these other reviews and skip this unacceptable piece of garbage. Get the PS2 version, or a PC game that's actually playable.
Rating: Summary: The GTA 3 Review. Review: My advice: Don't even think of buying this game unless you have at least 256MB SDRAM RAM (which is less than 33 dollars), 900MHZ computer (less than 57 dollars if it is AMD), a 60 dollar or more Videocard, a good sound card (Sound Blaster Live X Gamer or better). With these specs the game should run well. Anyway if you don't have the specs I posted, than update your PC. If GTA 3 is running great on your PC I recommend that you don't download any drivers for your videocard even if they are official drivers because some drivers mess up the frames per second and you'll be forced to format your PC. But if you are having problems with the frames per second, maybe you should download a driver for your Videocard. If you are having problems with GTA 3 on your PC e-mail Rockstar or go to these sites. [X] or [X] The PS2 and PC comparison: This game is better on the PC than it was on the Playstation 2. Rating: Summary: Vast improvement over the first two GTA games. Review: Having played GTA and GTA2 for PlayStation, I was pretty skeptical about the whole Grand Theft Auto series. The first two games had attitude to spare and nice details, but the gameplay was sloppy thanks to an ill-conceived control scheme, slowdown was constant (the result of trying to do too many things onscreen), the savegame system was abysmal, and the missions were often too hard (not helped by the controls). GTA3, happy to say, improves on many crucial points. First of all, the versatility of a keyboard (on the PC version I bought, at least) means that there is now much more control over the camera angles. The overhead angle of GTA and GTA2 is now only one of many available options, and the availability of this option makes gameplay a whole lot easier. I still don't totally dig the way the camera would sometimes end up in awkward positions for controlling your car, but the camera problems of GTA3 are minor compared to, say, Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, either because of too much design detail or the capacity of my computer, slowdown on my copy of the game is really prominent. My computer was able to play Medal of Honor: Allied Assault without any problems, and that game had atmosphere and details enough, so I can't help thinking perhaps GTA3 put in a little too much candy for the ears and eyes at the expense of control and smoothness. I wish they could have built in some more display and audio options to help smooth out game operation; I personally wouldn't have minded not having so much weather and lighting detail, or being able to turn off the car radio, so I can play the game more smoothly. If the slowdowns could have been alleviated, the control scheme and response of GTA3 positively demolishes that of GTA and GTA2. One big plus is that the story elements have been greatly improved. You now have a much more comprehensible storyline to flesh out your adventures (though you can still play the game non-linearly if you want to); the character design and voice work now have oodles more personality, making it much easier to recognize one character from another. The missions have been improved as well; though the technical problems above prevented me from playing some of the missions (El Burro's city race, for example), the learning curve and difficulty are now much more reasonable, making for a more enjoyable gaming experience. I have one major complaint: The save-game system. Why make it such a hassle to save your progress? I don't mind replaying missions, but to have to return to your safehouse, go visit the boss again, get the same mission, then attempt to finish the mission time after time is a major drag. I don't understand why the designers are so jittery about letting players save within the game. At the very least, how about a checkpoint system so long missions don't have to be played all the way through over and over? I like this game, but I have enough gripes to make my experience a mixed one. I can only hope GTA4, whenever it may arrive, would make as many improvements on GTA3 as GTA3 did on its predecessors, especially in the crucial gameplay and control fronts.
Rating: Summary: Extreme violence with frustrating game play, but enjoyable Review: I have never seen a computer game this graphic. i am a child of the Mortal Kombat era and this violence is too real at times. It's one thing to play a video game with fantasy gore but there is realistic gore in this game. This game encourages violence, so it must be played by somebody with a sense of what reality is really like. Don't even play this game when younger people are around. Getting this game playing can be extremely frustrating. Check out the box to see the "recommended" requirements and make sure you have them. The minimums are not enough for adequate gameplay. I have above and beyond what the minumums are and game play is still slow. This can be extremely frustrating when you are at a level that requires you to do things quickly. A weaponry in this game is enough to make a junkie drool. If you know the codes then you'll have fun with what you can do. The point of this game is to break the law, be aware of this. Some of the missions are nothing more than assasinations and mass murders. The best part about this game is that you can steal a fire truck and go put out a fire or take an ambulance and drive patients to the hospital or steal a police car or truck and go vigilante. If you are strapped for cash you can steal a cab and make runs to earn a little money. Some things will make you laugh and others will shock you. This game has very realistic and graphic details, complete with prostitues soliciting you. This game is a very violent game that can easily offend you. If you can rent it before buying you should do so before making the commitment. Keep your kids away from this because they don't need to be introduced to the adult themes of this game. This game really has no place in the hands of people who are unable to distinguish reality from a fantasy. This game is for mature adults who enjoy fantasy video games, not for younger people or people who are looking to do in a video game what they can't do in real life.
Rating: Summary: OK game...not a worthy successor to the GTA title Review: I was a huge fan of the original GTA. In the same way that Pac Man and Tetris are the sorts of games wherein the fun never ends, GTA excelled. GTA2 went downhill a bit, and with GTA3 the fun is lost. This isn't to say that GTA3 is not a great game--it is. The graphics, sound, gameplay, everything is nearly perfect. There is hardly a thing in the game that is not exceedingly realistic. That, however, is what I don't particularly like about the game. GTA1 was great because of its cartoonish wit and simplicity. In multiplayer mode especially, the winner was the person who was the most skilled. As the series has moved along, however, it has become more about who finds the biggest weapon. Cars break down too easily and don't handle well enough. The police are too smart. Pedestrians are few and far between. Simply put, the details are so good that it makes the gameplay much more difficult and, for me, removes a lot of the pure joy of playing the game--not to mention the un-PC tongue-in-cheekiness of the original, and even GTA2. This is a great game for people who love first person shooter games, people who get off on beating people with baseball bats, and anyone who likes slick-looking and -playing computer games. Fans of the GTA series from way back might be disappointed, however. I'm sticking to the original.
Rating: Summary: It took awhile but now I'm really into it Review: I didn't like the way this game played the first couple of days that I had it, my wife started to really get into it before I did. Once I started to figure out the control set up and the general watch out for yourself attitude it became the game to play on my computer! I suggest you have some fun, and learn the street lay-out by stealing different kinds of vehicles and doing some of the side missions. Paramedic (ambulance), vigilante (police car), fire (fire truck) and taxi (cab). Also, make sure the kids are in bed or well out of the room. You don't want to explain to them why you have to yank a little old lady out of her station wagon so you can use her car to "whack" a bunch of triad gang-members.
