Rating: Summary: Global Operations (more than another Counter-Strike clone) Review: As a very big fan of multiplayer FPS (first person shooter) games I had been anticipating Global Operations for quite a long time. I had heard that several people who had worked on CS were involved in the GO project. I downloaded the public beta as soon as I heard it was out, and boy was I impressed. The gameplay has two different teams, usually the country's special-forces team pitted against a local guerilla or terrorist group. There are five player classes to choose from: sniper (sniper rifle + a pistol), a recon expert (submachine gun + pistol), commando (assualt rifle + submachine gun+ pistol), Heavy Gunner (machine gun + shotgun + pistol), and demolitions expert (grenade launcher + submachine gun + pistol). Each of the weapon slots a class has does not have to be filled, in other words, you dont have to have a gun or have all three weapon slots filled, it's just a nice feature. Another great feature is that the weapons your selected class normally uses are not restriced to just those weapons . For example a sniper can pick up a machine gun, and although it will reload slower and fire more inaccuratly than if a machine gunner used it, the sniper can sell it off the next round for a sniper rifle. The weapon models and textures were beautiful and the detail to realism was astounding. The class selection works extremely well because you almost have to have different people be different classes in order to succeed, which I thought was a good way to make teams work more together. While the game is similar in many aspects to Counter-Strike (getting money for missions, buying your weapons. etc.) it added so many features missing in CS. The biggest of these was that in CS you bought your gun and that was what you got, but GO allows players to upgrade and personalize their weapons to what they want or what they think they need (I.E. you can put a scope on any rifle and silencers can be added to many of the weapons). The most detailed thing in the game were the weapons. The models use photographs which were textured on (they are pixture perfect), in addition to that all the weapon sounds, recoil, fire slecters(3 round burst fire,automatic, and semi-automatic) and reloads are based off the real gun. The one thing that i disliked about the beta was that after placing a silencer on a weapon, the damage it dealt was greatly reduced. I recommend this to anyone who already enjoys tactical first person shooters or if you are a first time gamer looking for a realistic team based action game. ...

Rating: Summary: Fun and Frustrating. Review: GO has the making of a great game. For the most part, it is. What can hold it back is the rough graphics and sometimes confusing gameplay. I liked the overall setup of classes and weapons. The weapons all have their strengths, limitations, handle differently and with enough cash you can add scopes, extra ammo, silencers, etc. This is a neat feature that can really add to what your gun of choice is capable of. On the other hand, what is the point of a silencer if they already know where you are? Or a laser sight that gives away your location? I do think that they all sound good. The machine guns make a nice throaty roar while SMGs make a nice hard tapping sound. They all sound like they should and sound good. Like the weapons, each class has strengths and limitations that help focus the team based combat. A recon trooper moves forward to light up enemies while a pair of heavy gunners provides cover fire for example. While this sounds good in theory, actually getting other people to do this is rare. More often than not it brakes down in to a free for all until the match expires or someone manages to meet an objective. Coordination is compounded by the vague voice commands and lack of a map to location posistions. The graphics should have been better. The player models are many and varied but it seems they shot for quantity over quality. The models are bland and crudely shaped with stiff animations. The lighting is generally good, but player shadows are simple and look tacked on. At least most of the texturing is good enough and the flash from weapons or smoke from grenades look good. Most of that I could overlook but for one thing. It is not always easy to tell if the player in the distance is on your team or not. This sounds so simple but it can be confusing. More so if you are switched teams by the game at the end of the round. In the "Mexico" map for example, the good guys wear flat drab green and the bad guys wear drab green and tan cammo. At a distance this it can be hard to distinguish one green pixel from another. And the models look close enough alike that in the shadows it gets worse. In some maps it is easy to tell, other not so much. This inconsistent style it irritating as you might fire at your teammates. Or wait to see whom it is and get killed. All that said it has it moments, and is usually enjoyable enough. But it could have been better.
Rating: Summary: This game grows on you... Review: Honestly, I was totally turned off by the beta demo that was originally released online. Choppy gameplay, unclear specialist roles, uninspired graphics. Then, in a momentary lapse of my faculties, I bought the retail version. Applied the latest patches, and was again underwhelmed. The bot AI in single player seemed to be based on a weird logic where you teammates rush into the meat grinder while the bad guys stand and fire like pop-up targets (and manage to take you out 1/4 way cross the map with a shotgun). The tutorials don't offer much insight into how the various specialist classes (medic, heavy gunner, commando, recon, sniper, demolitions) function. That said, I think it's this specialist system that ultimately won me over. Each specialist has a specific set of weapons that he can purchase (i.e., only the sniper can purchase the larger scoped weapons, demo guy is the only one who can buy the grenade launcher, etc.), as well as a particular skill that can be crucial in your team's success (or failure). The recon has a lifesign detector (think of the gadget at the end of 'Rainbow Six' - the book) that can identify bogies at great distances. However, the detector runs has a short battery life, and you have to be near your teammates for them to use this information. The medic can heal or revive teammates. The demo guy can set remotely detonated charges (and can turn parked cars into map-clearing bombs). The mechanics of the game really emphasize team cooperation. Yeah, you could have a squad of "elite" shooters steamroller their way to victory, but you could also have a recon sneak the VIP under the noses of the opposition to win the round. Of course, this assumes that the bunch of strangers that you find online are looking to play this game in a team-friendly way. For now, I think most of the players recognize this and play accordingly, and I think that's what makes GlobOps such an entertaining (and challenging) experience.
Rating: Summary: BUY THIS GAME!! Review: I bought this game and almost everyday I play around 1-2 hours. This game is best on multiplayer, but the single player mode isn't bad too. This game is my number 1 in all my games (and i have ALOT). ...It is worth buying, this game is well worth your money (I would have given this game a 7 out of 5)
Rating: Summary: very fun, but a few minor grudges Review: I downloaded the public beta for this game and enjoyed it very much. It was a great mix of CS and TFC. The only problem i have with it is that it is hard to tell who is on your team and who isnt. It is probly just because i was on a dark map, but it can get annoying. Other than that minor grudge, it is an awesome game and i would reccomend buying it if u liked CS or any other half life mod.
Rating: Summary: Global Ops Multiplayer Review: I downloaded the public multiplayer demo and played it through SpyArcade and I love it. This is the first time that I did multiplayer and it was fun! Very addictive. The demo scenario was essentially capture the flag in 'Quebec' with a 'VIP' being the flag. The sides are a special ops unit versus 'terrorists.' You choose several roles (sniper, commando, medic, demolitions expert, machine gunner)and there are specific weapons asssigned to each role. However, you can use other players weapons when they die and leave them. I would buy this game!
Rating: Summary: Alec Review: I love this game!! much more realistic than most other games. plus it has so many real guns. and you get to be different specialties, you get good at one, and it really grows on you. like Recon, or medic. great gameplay. buy it, its better than MOHAA, and SOF2, AND AvP2. oh, make sure you stand still, to get the best shots
Rating: Summary: The best team-based FPS out the256re Review: I recommend this game above any multiplayer squad-based shooter out there. But, you must have a fast internet connection and you must get the latest patches. It runs fine for me on a P3 550MHz with 256MB RAM and a 32MB NVIDIA TNT2 video card. You wouldn't want much less than that. I was a huge Counter-Strike fan, but I find this to be much better.
