Summary: Would have gotten 5 stars but............
Review: I am going to love this game (i played the demo) The reason I gave this game 4 stars is how they die, if you shoot them with your double Uzis they do almost a backflip. I hope this is corrected in the full release. Otherwise this game is truly amazing, you can even slow down time like in the matrix so you can dodge bullets otherwise called Shoot-Dodging.

Summary: I Havnt Played it yet but......
Review: Even though i havnt played it yet i have been waiting for this game for two years now. In June of 99 i bought a Comp magazine w/ a video demo of this game when it was supposed to be released in 99. From what the demo says it is based around Max Payne (duh!) and a drug called "VALKIR" (im not sure if this has changed for the 2001 release). I give it a five because in the demo you get to shoot up a really fat guy with a machine gun ( who doesnt like that!!!) I hope everyone that likes shoot em' ups will buy this graphically stunning game!

Summary: A revolutionary game
Review: This game is set to become as revolutionary as Halflife or Doom. The leap in graphics is stunning. My jaw dropped when I first loaded up the beta. You start talking to your best friend on the subway. When I looked out the subway window I could see fully rendered walls with bill boards and paint. But the real fun came when I go a handgun. Bullet and gore effects are more stunning and are more realistically portrayed than SOF or Rn 6.My only complaint at first was the way enimys died. They seem to tumble when shotin the arm. After a while though I got used to the strange non SOF death sequences. The weapons feel real.... really real. I only got four, handgun, shotgun, bar, and some type of rifle. New York city is quite simply photo realistic. After I crused through the museam of art, I also beheld the empire state building and battery Park. I was amazad also at the way you interact with the environment. everything moved and operated. I cant wait to buy the full game when it comes out and I feel sorry for everyone else who hasnt had the opportunity to play the exclusive demo! so long suckas.

Summary: A game that breaks the barrier.
Review: Even though this game is not out yet, there are many things to say about it. This game, simply put, is going to cross boundaries never crossed when it comes to technology and gameplay. The graphics are absolutely stunning, and the attention to detail is just jaw-dropping. The storyline is strong and is carried out well through the use of ingame cutscenes and comics. This game will be a classic, everyone should experience it.

Summary: Its Realistic(Duh)
Review: Max Payne is, in a word, a great game. It is basicaly the creator of its genre, Story-Telling. As scary as "story telling" May sound to older gamers, it has a great meaning in Max Payne. Every event is scripted upon what you do in the game, fire a gun, choose a hallway to walk through. You start out in the beginning as a police officer named Max Payne, and pretty much all you do is run over to your wife and kid, when ALL OF A SUDDEN, they get shot. Poor, poor Max. Well, the game extends from here. As you open your eyes from the surprise of the graphics that this game has, you find yourself an employee of the Drug Enforcement Association to try to track down the murderers of your loved ones, the ones who were the creators of the new designer drug Valkyr. But just as things were looking up, things go down. Heads go zoom. THINGS BLOW UP. You here over the radio that you are wanted for the murder of one of your buddies at the DEA, when ALL OF A SUDDEN, that dude's head gets penetrated by a sniper's bullet. Well, I certainly don't know about you all, but I am preordering that thing like it was already out. Washington, the caisons have hit bedrock.

Summary: Truly a unique, balls-out action adventure!
Review: What can I say, the game of the year without question. It's a third-person, story-driven crime/conspiracy adventure like the gaming world has never seen. The game is full of firsts, like giving the player the ability to activate slow-motion ("bullet time") gun fights that are both hair-raising and beautiful -- imagine if John Woo had directed The Matrix, and you'll get the idea!

Max Payne himself is the next great game character. He's not beefy tough like a Duke Nukem, but a down-to-earth good guy put in an extraordinarily tough situation...framed for murder, hunted by the mob, wanted by police. As the PR for the game says, Max is a man with nothing to lose...the most dangerous kinda of man there is, like a cornered tiger.

On top of everything else, this has got to be the most realistic and amazing looking game, 3D or otherwise, I've ever seen (and I see them all).

Do yourself a big favor and get this game -- it's the next Half-Life, and I'm not half-kidding.

Summary: Two guns up!
Review: This game is amazing! It's different from any first person shooter game I ever played. And that's what I like about it. The sound and graphics are great. Big levels to wander. And the violence is strong perfet for all you die hard fans. But a nuff about what I think, let me tell you about the plot. The game begins when you enter your house and you notice that your furniture is toppled and torn and your pictures are knoked down. Not to mention your dead wife and kid. Vengeful Max goes to see his only friend at the subway. But as soon as you get there and meet him your friend gets a brain wheggie before you can say "hi pal". Now you have the mob and the Feds after you. Cool aint it! Well that pretty much it and the rest you'll have to find out for your self.

PS= If you liked this review I'm doing one on Clive Barker's Undying soon. It's a cool game for all you action-science fiction gamers. Be sure to check it out.

Summary: OVER-RATED
Review: Max Payne is DOOM with slo-mo and better textures.. everyone must be shot, the levels are even more linear than DOOM (if thats possible).

Its "serious sam" set in new york.. the only thing fun about the game is the slow-motion moves, but after the 200th killing even they get boring.

You can finish Max Payne in 10 hours or less, and then there is little replayability as the higher difficulty levels just provide less health and enemies that while being just as brain dead (have no ears, shoot through their colleagues) take more damage before dying.

Has the PC game world lost their minds? the graphics need a ghz machine and a top graphics card to run at higher than 640 pixels and with all detail, yet they are just half-life quality with better textures.

Mostly, though, my problem with Max is that the levels require no thinking and are totally linear.. along with the terrible enemy AI and achingly bad comic book lines (worse than any real comic book).

I've completed the game (at least I got 10 hours out of it) but have no desire to run it again.. games like hitman, kingpin, serious sam, half-life offer much more innovation than Max does.

Max has got people ga-ga for slo-mo.. a technically trivial thing to add to a game.. what did Remedy spend the other 3 years working on??
