Summary: One of the best games this year
Review: Given that this game was under development for so long, by the time it shipped, I really wasn't interested in it. Then I watched one of my coworkers playing it, and I immediately went out and bought it. For the following couple of weeks, I did little else.

This is one of the most interesting games I've ever played. The storyline wasn't terribly original, but it was presented in a very effective manner. I especially enjoyed the graphic novel scenes that separated each chapter. Also innovative were the levels where you took part in Payne's nightmares.

Of course, the big thing that everyone is talking about is the slow motion sequences. Some of these are activated by the player, and besides looking cool, they allow you to overcome some situations that would be almost impossible otherwise. The other time slo-mo comes into play is when you kill the last enemy in a particular area, when you see them flying through the air with a grimace on their face - a very nice touch.

The game is very violent, which won't be a problem for many gamers, but it's something you should be aware of. Also, as has been mentioned, the game is fairly short, which may disappoint some people, although finishing the game the first time unlocks new play modes. Overall, though, if you want something different from the standard shooter fare, you won't be disappointed with Max Payne.

Summary: Max Payne
Review: Max Payne is a third person game with a fantastic single player gameplay but no multiplayer gameplay. It has an average plot, ground breaking graphics and lots of comic book type animated cutsences. It supports two video modes "Direct3D Hardware T&L" and "Direct3D Software T&L". Set in New York City, Max Payne is a cop who goes undercover to seek revenge against the gangsters who killed his wife and daughter, His cover is blown and is framed for murder with cops and gangsters after him. The game ends with a great climax action which will do any hollywood movie proud. What's unrealistic is Max is a cop fighting against drugs but he uses pain killers to cure his injuries. I played on the Direct3D hardware T&L and the game runs very smooth. The graphics are fantastic, The charecters and world look real, Though not many different colours. The world detail is superb, You could turn on the tv, shoot it and watch it explode. The sound recording is very good and loud. The music which plays during the action sences is superb. Load times are very good, The quick saving and quick loading are very quick.

Max Payne's level design is superb, They are very well done, In one level you need to chase a gangster jumping from the cities roof top to roof top and finally jumping on a moving train. Mp is a short game but the length is just right. The selection of weapons are very good but some of them are very dissapointing, Grenades and molktov cocktail for example, It is quite hard to through grendes. Colt commando is my favorite. Max Paynes gameplay is pre half-life, But still the action gameplay is superb and very thrilling. The problems in the game are it is shipped without a multiplayer and initially it has only one difficulty, other three difficulties can be unlocked only if you finish the first, They are both very bad decisions. It has got loads of annoying cutsences, cutsence of the sniper bullet charging to the target is cool, but others are very annoying and take the controls from the player. It is also quite hard as max cant take much damage. Third person perspective is always a bad choice for action games like this, But its third person view is quite good but it does not support the turn left and turn right key for the keyboard, You could turn only with the mouse. Max Payne is not a ground breaking title in gameplay but it is a very good pre half-life kind of game with better graphics and bullet time. If you like pre half-life games (not many puzzles, shoot everything that moves, Bad AI) then you will really love Max Payne.

Summary: The best action game I have ever played!....
Review: I only have one word for this game: Wow. This game just blows me out of the water with amazing graphics, great storyline, easy controls, balanced gameplay, sweet sound and best of all awsome gameplay that will turn your head. This game is easily up there with Half-life if not better. "Bullet time" is easily the best feature in the game. When you are in a tight spot, all you have to do is right click and time it self slows down, but your mouse doesn't slow down, giving you incredible aim. This feature makes the game have a more cinematic feel and helps you out alot. Speaking of cinematics, the game itself is very much like a movie, this game IS a John Woo movie because it takes all those gun dives and the still motion cameras and puts it into a game. The cinematic feel makes this game. Of Course you are buying the game to play, not to watch and to play is not a problem either. The gameplay is just sheer brillance, you'll love the way you move around dodging bullets and placing bullets into the head of the enemies who get in your way. Many of the features of this game are brand new. Alot of people on the net are saying that you need a P4 with 1.5GHz to play this game. Thats bull, it works alright on a P3 with 500Mhz. Of course the better the system the better the gameplay. The only downfall to this game is that there is no multiplayer which makes its replay value low. Also the game is rather short. For the price of I paid for this I consider this game is a bargin. I suggest you buy this game. Sure you don't know who I am or how much I play PC games, but you are gonna wanna trust me......This game is just incredible. Note: If you decide to pass this game up and get another game for your hard earned bucks you will regret it when you see every single gaming publication out there give it "Game of the Year" or "Action game of the year" awards.

Summary: Worth my 30 bucks.....incredibly fun and addictive.
Review: [....]Well let's get on to the game. (I won't explain bullet time/shootdodge, i think you all have an idea of what that is already). This is basically an intense Third person shooter, no real strategy needed, but if you want to, you can add strategy to everything..for example: I kept replaying some of the more intense scenes over and over again, trying to kill the bad guys with stylish moves etc.Ok so maybe that's not strategy, but what I mean is, if you're a perfectionist like me, then you'll want to do what I did over and over again. I'm not so crazy about the story, it's humurous at times, but in an obscure way, but it just seems too cheesy for my taste...kinda like your typical big-budget action movie (Mission Impossible 2, etc)which means INTENSE action, but little substance. I mean, come on, the story is intriguing, but it just seems too lighthearted, it never reaches the depth of say, Metal Gear Solid. This is still one of the best games I've played in a while, and I think the length is just fine, I mean, it's basically as long as the Resident Evils out there. Even though you'll probably beat it in one weekend,(it took 15 hours for me, replaying every key scene until I had the perfect kill)you'll still have a blast. NOTE: I have a moderately fast system, [...] but my graphics card is really lousy: Nvidia Riva TNT2...but the game still looked AMAZING in 800x600 High/True color resolution, so if you have a fast system but a bad graphics card...fret not my friend.

Summary: MAX Looks GREAT!
Review: I'm writing this because I sincerely want others to benefit from my mistake. The little bit of Max Payne that I did see looked terrrrific, however, it crashed on me shortly after starting. Then it crashed again and then again. I didn't read the small print on the bottom of the box. The MINIMUM requirements for the PC version are.... a better than agerage 3D card and 700mhz PIII or equivalent and they're not kidding. Don't take it home and slide it in there unless your machine has got the goods or else you'll wind up slapping your machine up side the head listening to the air being let out of your baloon. Those requirements are pretty high for any game but this one looks like it's worth it. My PC has a 400mhz with a 2D integrated card and although Deus Ex ran great on it, Max Payne couldn't even get out of the driveway

Summary: Parents should read this before getting there kids this game
Review: Since a lot of the other reviewers have aleady told you about the plot, I won't. All I'm gonna say is this: GET THIS GAME! Incredible action and atmosphere! Slow-motion slugfests! Interesting plot! Movie quality cinematics! (there is a mix between cinematics and comic-book style cinematics but more of comic-book)

But not for kids. There is only mild profanity, but heavy violence. In this first minutes of the game, Max's wife and baby are gunned down. There is a lot of blood and you hear screams of people being tortured. Also, you find a few dead bodies of people who were tortured to death. One part comes to mind where Max finds someone who was beaten to death with a baseball bat. There is also some heavy drug content. Throughout the game you find needles lying around, druggies taking drugs and getting high in bathrooms, and max's family gets killed by people who inject themselves with drugs. The sexual content is somwhere between PG-13 and R. There are many refrences to prostitution and pimps (including numerous vibrating beds), sexual innunendo (which is very strong at times) and posters of half naked women on the walls. Also, there is a moment that comes to mind wherea woman is with a bartender in a bar all alone. The comic book style cinematic shows pictures that obviously hint that they are going to do it. (there is one quite crude picture that hints something I can't mention in this review, so be warned.) this game is not for anyone under 15 or so.

Anyway, if you are over 15 or so, buy this game! It will sure to please FPS lovers!

Summary: Max Enjoyment from Max Payne
Review: Although this game was just recently released, I anticipate it to be a bestseller! Max Payne combines a well thought out storyline with fast paced "gangster style" third person action.

The weapons "feel nice under your mouse", and the game includes a nice variety of "destruction tools", ranging from Desert Eagles, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns and Ingrams to Hand Grenades and Molotov Cocktails (to name a few). The environment and textures both look and play very well, and the artificial intelligence of your opponents should constantly keep you on your toes!

But, the best and most unique aspect of this game is BulletTime. When engaged, it considerably slows down Max Payne's external environment, while at the same, allows him to roll, strafe, aim and fire in 'real time'. You can also see the actual projectory trails from your weapon as your bullets travel through the air!

The game is a little short, but that's probably because most people cannot put it down! Looking forwards to Max Payne 2, and the movie!!

Summary: Max Payne - game of the Year
Review: Max Payne's story line and game play is excellent. It is also a very stable game, it never locked up on me. The graphics are great, the game play is great. I have never played a game through till the end, I get bored. No boredom with Max. I played it through in 5 days. That is the only draw back, its too short. Can't wait for the sequel!
