Summary: Too Difficult
Review: There should be a very easy setting. The game is much too difficult for me which makes it unplayable.

Summary: A little rating psychology
Review: I am 14 and i think this game is right in the heart of any 13 to 24 year old gamer. some of the bad reviews are only there because adults put them there, and since the game is supposedly "for adults" the adults will play it and say "oh it's just a stupid tasteless killing fest with no plot." but a teenager will appreciate and continue to play this game for a long time. i think that max payne will be bought and played by people under age 17 more than by people who are "adults" just because, well, honestly, if you are 14 you have almost for sure seen a rated R action flick, and this game isn't even as bad as that! (the mobsters say "friggin"- come on). If you can handle seeing the the matrix, you can handle playing this game. it is a good game suitable for any sane responsible teenager who just wants to have fun playing a cool game.

Summary: Max Payne
Review: Easily the best FPS I have played to date, excluding team based online games such as Half Life: Counter Strike. Sound and graphics are superb. Play control is also excellent - though I agree with the point of view problem mentioned in other reviews. This can usually be solved by rotating the view up a bit so you are looking at a slight down angle. And the crosshairs are difficult to see at times, but the hit detection is pretty generous and you'll probably hit anything in the reasonable vicinity. Finally, it does require a powerful computer, but this is no reason to downgrade your rating. Any regular computer gamer has to accept that having a top rate procesor and plenty of memory is a prerequisite to playing.

Summary: Way Cool until the novelty wears off.
Review: The "bullet time" effects were cool at first, but after the novelty wore off it was just another FPS with a mediocre story line.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: MY DAD BOUGHT THIS GAME FOR HIMSELF. I LOVE WATCHING HIM PLAY. THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT. THE CRIMINALS ARE LIFE-LIKE AND SO IS MAX. I LOVE HOW THE GAME WORKS. I LOVE MYSTERIES AND WHENEVER MY DAD PLAYS THIS GAME(WHICH HE IS REALLY GOOD AT)I ALWAYS WATCH HIM PLAY.

Summary: Great game, just can not run on some computers
Review: I liked this game--until it started skipping on me after 15 mins or so. I have a fairly decent computer (800 Mhz, Nvidia GeForce 2 card) and for some reason, I can not play this game for too long before it starts skipping. I also don't like how the game has to load the MAIN MENU!! and when I want to exit, it has to load to get out of the program.
If you are planning on buying the game, make sure you have a fast processor and a lot of RAM.

Summary: O.K.
Review: Max Payne is O.K., but it has its flaws. Prime among these, is the obstructed viewpoint, common to all 3rd person shooters. Targeting the enemy can get frustrating when all you can see is the back of Max Payne. It should be noted that this does not happen all the time, however it does occur often, especially when in narrow passages, or on stairwells. The crosshairs are non-existent, merely a white pixal. This is problem because it tends to blend into the backround easily. In addition, Max Payne cannot lean left or right, forcing you to expose him when attacking the enemy. When you install the game, your forced to play the easiest level. This is a flaw because the game has little replay value.

The hype about Max Payne is the graphics, which take a back seat to no PC game. The audio/video options menu is the best I've seen. Detailed explanations are given for each option. The storyline is solid, and the artwork is a nice touch. The game has no bugs or glitches to worry about either.

Max Payne is a worthy time-killer, but its not a classic.

Summary: Good game
Review: This is a good game, but gets a little boring at times. I'm glad I played it, but don't expect to go back for a visit ever.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Impressive at first but considering price, gets old quick
Review: If you are a PC gamer that does not enjoy linear games I would not recommend this title. In other words, this is a game that involves little decision making and depends on a storyline to keep you hooked from chapter to chapter. The storyline is a comic book tale about a cop become a vigilante to combat the evil drug dealers. The in-between segments are even displayed as comic book panels and the main character, Max Payne, has a load of corny metaphors to go with every chapter.

Some of the creative features put into this game stand out at first. Perhaps the most impressive feature is the bullet time option that allows you to slow down time and gun down your enemies in a dramatic fashion. If you've seen "The Matrix," bullet time is the exact same thing in that movie. It's new and interesting at first but not entertaining enough to keep you captivated throughout the game.

No problem solving is required in this game. The chapters are shoot 'em up segments from one to the next. Even extra ammunition and health capsules are easy to find as you only need to open up a cabinet, shelf, etc. to find them. The game allows you to interact with your environment by turning on faucets, blowing up television screens and other aspects that are entertaining at first but really have no point other than to "oooh and awe" you.

If you shy away from violence or have kids to watch out for this game is not recommended. The beginning sequence of the game shows Max Payne examining his murdered infant which I have to say was one of the few moments I thought a PC game overdid the violence in a game. Some of the sub-bosses are slowed down and zoomed into as they are killed and falling to the ground. I think critics of media violence often miss the point and are hypocritical but I have to say that this is one game that I could see justifiable reaction to the violence portrayed.

An added bonus to this game is an online community that has created mods, skins and other programs to enhance your gaming experience with Max Payne. (Mods are alterations to the game that add extra levels, villains, etc.) I've seen stand-alone games with much more to offer in the mod department but the game does support it. There is an online demo available that allows you to play the first part of the game. Keep in mind that most of the game follows the same format as the demo which will allow you to decide if you'd like to purchase the game. In my opinion, it's a game that is fun for younger players but is boring for the older PC gaming audience. There are some unique gameplay aspects in Max Payne but not enough to make it worthwhile until the price drops.
