Summary: Excellence in Online Gaming
Review: I've logged many hours of online gaming and UT gets my reluctant nod for game of the year. I love John Carmack and the rest of the id guys, but Epic has created software worthy of their name. UT is the new standard bearer because of its diverse gameplay and fabulous Online gaming interface.

I love Capture The Flag (Q2CTF and LMCTF) and other team games, but don't have the time to DL mods and waste time configuring them to work w/ GameSpy, etc. UT wraps GameSpy functionality and online gaming into one easy-to-use package complete w/ all the great things I love about Q2CTF games: voice radio messages, team play, and lots of explosions. It also gets rid of Q's tedious config files, offering a slick GUI for setting gameplay environment variables, although the console is there for the hardcore tweaking.

You have heard that the UT bots are great, and they are. So are the weapons. Sure, the GFX may not be quite as curvacious as Q3A, but to me, the flawless experience of UT's online gaming makes it the clear winner. User experience and user interface matter, and UT have them. In 15 minutes you can get online, find a server and play several rounds of CTF. What more could you want?

Summary: Unreal Tourney versus Quake 3 Arena!
Review: Just recently I downloaded demos for both UT and Q3 and I must say, they both kiss #ss. However, both games differ from each other. Graphics wise, its a close call, both offer bright colors and good dsi ratios. Q3 may beat UT by a margin graphics wise, but UT offers much easier interface. Plus, UT's environments and much more creative and are all individually more unique than Q3. The weapons in both games are awsome! Some in Q3 like that rocket launcher is worthless and somewhat annoying. The bots in Q3 are much more intelligent and faster than UT. Whether that is better or just more annoying is up to the player. I prefer bots that are competitive but not so that you end up pulling more hair out of you head than hitting your targets. Multiplayer for both games are great, but UT wins this one simply because it offers more features like Capture the Flag. Overall, UT may be the more fun game to play, but Q3 is just a game that is eye-widening everytime you play it. I would suggest buying them both to avoid going through a long and hard process of choosing which one to purchase.

Summary: I want!
Review: OH! I never thought I'd get into the first person action games again. I quite a while back when Wolfenstein came out. A friend was playing this and I loved the graphix so much, that I asked where I could get a copy. I dled the Demo and on the weekends, you could hear me screaming at the bots from a block away. I'm hoping someone gets me the actual game for christmas, but if not, I'll buy it the day after! The only good thing about checks! Happy holidays!

Summary: Wow, I am amazed!
Review: I've always thought that Quake 3 Arena will dominate the FPS gameing industry this year, but boy was I wrong. From no where comes Unreal Tournament, a game that can challenge Q3A, (game play or graphics wise) perhaps surpass it. (gotta wait till the full Q3A comes out and see) But for now, UT has better weapons than Q3, better mods. Level wise, even tho UT doesn't have the smooth curvey surfaces in Q3, but the levels are just so damn fun and nice looking. Quake 3 full version is gona have to work hard to top this one, or this could be the game of the year imo

Summary: I am now a believer!
Review: When my friend told me to download the UT demo I laughed. I already loved Quake 3 Arena test and Epic's past performances have been less than epic. So why take the time to download it? Anyway, I finally did and it was incredible. The demo itself offers 3 types of play CTF, Domination, and straight deathmatch and the finished version adds last man standing and assault. The bots act as human players would going for health when needed, searching for the best weapon, etc. There is also a bot difficulty level for any type of gamer from novice t god-like. Two things really set UT apart from Q3TA. First, the single player mode that is offered is unparreled and secondly the level design on Q3TA is quite bland where as the levels in UT are ingenious. I purchased the game the day it came out(11/22/99) and have played the heck out of it over Thanksgiving Break and I can honetly say I have not grown tired of the game something that happens entirely too often with most games for me. I guess it comes down to this. Will I buy Ouake 3 Arena when it comes out in early December? Most likely. Will it be better? I am not sure, but if the UT demo and full game are any indicator it may be a long Christmas Holidays for Quake 3 Arena and the guys at id.

Summary: Not impressed...
Review: I'm not at all impressed by Unreal Tournament. It isn't a bad game by no means. Although, I didn't find the game half as Quake 3 is. It does have a lot of features, and both the graphics and interface are nice. But it just seems like the exact same game to me with updated visuals and some new modes. Only get this if you were a fan of Unreal, not a just a fan of multiplayer first-person shooter. It plays and looks too much like Unreal, it's not much of an improvement. It is cheap though.

Summary: Too bad UT comes out so close to final exams...
Review: I downloaded the latest Quake3test and unreal tournament at about the same time. So far, I've spent about 1 to 1.5 hours playing the Quake3test. I've spent 70+ hours playing UT. I'd say that quake3 gives UT a run for its money visually, but UT is so much more fun. UT is so many games in one, deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF - which Quake3 has, but also domination, Last Man Standing, and my personal favorite InstaGib! In the full version of UT there is also an Assault game, (i.e. Saving Private Ryan). Plus it keeps a detailed database of stats for your player names and the bots you compete against. There are plenty of adjustable features like gravity, how many powerups, respawing, etc. Playing against bots even is fun, and UT seems so much more alive when you have live chatter flying back and forth between bots, etc. To sum it up, you'll still be playing UT long after your other deathmatch games begin collecting dust on the shelf.

Summary: Move over Quake & Half Life, there¿s a new kid in town, UT!
Review: Unreal Tournament is simply the best FPS to date. With Unreal Tournaments great graphics and environments not to mentions the interfaces ease of use, will ensure it's standing to be one of the all time favorites to come! A must have for any FPS fan!

Summary: Unreal Tourney-By far, the largest surprise this year
Review: Ok, let's get a few things straight. First, I am a huge gamer (love Mob rule, AOE2, Freespace 2, Homeworld, all Quakes, etc., etc.). Secondly, I absolutely HATED the normal Unreal game. However, in UT, the graphics and sound surpass any game I have found (and the system requirements aren't that big either). Plus, if you are disappointed with your high pings due to your 56 K modem, DONT PLAY ONLINE! The bots (computer controlled players) are so realistic and so configurable, that a single player deathmatch actually sounds appealing. Plus, you don't immediately have access to all arenas in single player mode. You have to be the best and work your way up. 5 different modes of play mean that you will never be bored. I'm going to pre-order this sucker today, and you should too!

Summary: truly awesome
Review: There's nothing more to say. It seems that the authors took the current bland Quake 3 tests and gave life back to the multiplayer first person shooters.
