Summary: And you thought FPS games were dying...
Review: With games like Team Fortress, Starseige Tribes, Rogue Spear all involving and emphasizing teamplay over the solitary deathmatching offered by games like Quake, it was very wise for Unreal Tournament to include a blend of both. The game, visually is mighty impressive (I've seen nothing that comes close to it so far). Everything from the smoke and lighting effects to the detailed textures of the walls screams quality. Unfortunately, in order to fully appreciate the lush visuals, a pretty hefty 3d card would be recommended. UT gives gamers many modes of play such as the regular deathmatch, a Capture the Flag mode, and a 'territorial' game in which you try to protect a certain area, the longer you hold out, the more points your team accumulates. Furthermore, the game runs fine on the Internet, granted that you have a 56K modem or better. If you crave intense shoot'em up action, Unreal will be for you. On a final note, the requirements for this game are quite high. I have a TnT2 Ultra video card stuffed in with a Pentium 3 550mhz computer and still saw some slowdowns. So, if you have the computer and some spare time, check this game out...you shouldn't be dissappointed.

Summary: Is UT worth it???
Review: Here we go again, same old game, same old graphics, just another FPS, right? Well, you got the FPS part down, but it's so much more than that. You've got incredible bot AI, customizable down to the last detail, excellent graphics, nice sound and intriguing levels to play on. Throw the ability to play on the net into the mix and you've got Unreal Tournament. Quake 3's boring, gothic levels and gameplay can't even compare to what UT has to offer. Many modes of play ranging from good ol' Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, plus new game modes like Domination and Assault, you really can't lose. Not to worry, there are plenty of weapons to keep you glued to your seat while fragging the living daylights out of your opponent. Best of all, you don't need a top-of-the-line system to play UT and a 56k modem is sufficient (expect a little lag) to play this baby online. So, stop reading this and pick up your own copy. Trust me, you'll have a blast playing this one! LONG LIVE UNREAL TOURNAMENT!!!

Summary: One of the best games ever!
Review: Still play this game after 2 and a half years after I purchased it. It flies on my new machine, and in my opinion is better than UT2003 because of the variety. If you do not have this game, get it now, you won't regret it!!

Summary: State of the art coding. BRILLIANT GAME.
Review: I have never spend much time playing games, until I started playing UT. This game is now my personal record, I have been playing it for months, I bought hardware just for it, I installed ISDN just to get better pings. And I didn't even play much. Yes, it is that good. :) Unreal Tournament has smooth character models, stunning environments and wonderfully detailed levels that just lay waste to the competition. (That includes Quake 3). The audio in UT is spectacular. The sound of guns firing all over the place will have you on the edge of your seat.Your teammates also have excellent voice quality. After you give your orders to them they talk to one another about the orders. They also do a good job bragging about how they killed an opponent. Not at all repetitive like Q3's. The AI is my personal favorite area. Artificial Intelligence is an important factor to any game. No one wants to play a game with ridiculously idiotic opponents or even too hard. Just when you think the bots could not be any smarter, they are! The enemy bots have some wonderfully smart patterns.Your team can occasionally win the game without you having to do anything. Now that's a good AI. Some things they can do is group together and attack in formations, give warning when they see enemies and when they neutralize the enemy; they do a nicely choreographed victory dance. UT brutally kills the competition in IA, it completely humilliates games like Daikatana and Quake 3 whose braindead bots are sometimes quite pathetic. Multiplayer code is extremely solid and lag-free if you find a decent server and have a reasonable connection (Very good with 56k, perfect with ISDN or cable). You can even enjoy it with a 28.8 modem. The unique double-action weapons are also excellent. You have lots of flexibility, again, I have to compare it to Q3's boring and much more limited weapons.

A good game needs to merge its elements into one seamless experience. A game with excellent graphics, sound, AI, and multiplayer will surely be fun to play; and Unreal Tournament offers it all! Epic has done a great job merging all the game elements into one fantastic gaming session;

You need reasonably fast hardware, (I personaly have a Celeron@450, 128 MB and a Voodoo 3 3k and it runs very smoothly).

This is simply a brilliant piece of coding. If you even remotely enjoy these games, you will love it. Especially when you start playing with people in your area and your friends.

When it comes to which game you should use your hard earned money to buy, make it Unreal Tournament!

Summary: I love this game!
Review: Unreal Tournament has become my favorite. Ever since the days of Duke Nukem 3D and Quake II, I have been looking for a game to become my new fave, and UT is the one for me!

I love the variation in game play, that it came ready to play those out of the box, and that the bots are so life-like. I really thought Q3 would be the game I would want between the two, but after trying both UT came out the winner.

The play is so smooth and perfect, but I must confess I have great hardware: A p3/500 with 128 MB or RAM, Voodoo 2-based card, and a DSL connection.

The ability to hop on line so easily makes the game easy to enjoy, and the maps coming out all the time just add to the fun. Almost every night after a hard day coding, I hop on line for a little UT. The stress just melts away.

It is hard to see how this game could be improved. Maybe fancier scenery, but the play is what it is all about in the end, and UT has that down cold. I went back to see some games that probably inspired UT, like Tribes I, but it really comes up lacking compared to the perfection of UT. Get this game, you will love it.

Summary: Best First-Person Shooter Made
Review: Unreal Tournament had a very disappointing single-player mode, in that you rise up through a tournament which is identical to multiplayer mode, except the computer decides who you fight and where (and you can't cheat). Then, at the very end, you face Xan on a ship, and he is nearly impossible to beat.

That aside, UT stands as the greatest FPS game ever made for its multiplayer. You cannot cheat per se; rather you use "mutators," which are small programs which affect gameplay. The Unlimited Ammo mutator gives everyone, including the computer-controlled bots, unlimited ammo, so while your ammo never runs out, once one of them gets their hands on a rocket launcher, it's all over. Another favorite is Matrix-Moves, in which you can run up walls, double jump, do front, back, and side flips, and even freeze in mid-air.

The game features your basic Deathmatch as well as team deathmatch, in which you shoot on sight. There is also Capture the Flag, where you have to take the enemy's flag to your own base. We also have Domination, where you must hold certain areas for a set amount of time. In Last Man Standing, you have "lives" rather than a time or kill limit. Finally, there's Assault, where you must complete variable objectives in so much time, and, upon completing those objectives, switch sides and prevent the computer from doing the same.

If that's not enough, you can download Mods which add new play modes, or totally change the game into something new. Of course, there are also skins and voice packs, so you can customize not only your character, but the bots as well.

In short, you can literally tweak your character (and the computer's) and the entire game play to your liking. Not only that, in my opinion, the gameplay is tighter than Quake 3 Arena.

Summary: The best FPS ever & perphaps the best game ever!
Review: When I first bought this game because of its fabulous reviews it was very sluggish on my machine. I thought it wasn't going to work until I downloaded the latest video drivers. Now this takes up nearly all my time on the computer. You've heard all the good stuff about UT, so I'll just give you the bad stuff. First, there is a lack of skins to use that ship with the game. However, many skins can be downloaded from Epic and users alike to broaden the selection quickly. Second, I experience some slowdown when you first get into a single-player game, but this happens in every other shooter I've seen and this stops if you use lower detail settings. I will bring up one good thing that many do not mention. This is the amount of mods out there that add limitless replyability, literally. I especially like the Unreal4Ever Tournament mod which adds 34 new weapons (no, that's not a typo) to the already excellent arsenal included with the game. This is THE shooter for a while, probably until Halo comes out. Until then, enjoy the mindless (sometimes, anyway) entertainment that UT offers.

Summary: Head Shot!
Review: ...there I was, approaching the enemy base to grab their flag. I leap over the wall, grab their flag, and furiously try to escape by leaping back over the wall, hopping like mad...and then my sys admin puts a bullet in my head. My body falls over and my head bounces away...

This scenario is not all that uncommon in "Unreal Tournament". This is easily the most addictive, and fun, FPS game of all time. There are five modes of play: Capture the Flag (described above), deathmatch, assault, domination, and team deathmatch. The weapons are incredibly well-balanced and varied. For example, there is a sniple rifle for you campers out there. There's the flak cannon for those who like close-up combat. Then there is the Redeemer, a guided nuclear missile which destroys anyone within its considerable blast radius.

The maps are gorgeous, as well. The Capture the Flag map "Facing Worlds" is well-rendered with the earth in the background, while the deathmatch map "Phobos Moon" has weapons and hazzards galore. The AI of the bots is adjustable to your skill level. Experienced bots will give you a challenge, and Godlike bots will have you for lunch.

The strength of UT lies in its multiplayer mode. There is nothing quite like stalking a friend, taking him out with a rocket launcher, then seeing his body parts bounce away while you merrily taunt him. Of course, be prepared for him to return the favor! When you and several friends are playing at the same time, you will never want to stop playing. Capture the Flag mode involves not just skill, but strategy as well. But for an old fashion frag-fest, deathmatch will do quite nicely.

The system requirements may be a bit steep (my PC has a 500 MHz chip and I still have occasional framerate issues), but the problems are minor. There is occasional bad language and gratuitous, over-the-top violence and gore. In other words, don't let your pre-teen child play this game. But for adults, this is one computer game that will have you and your friends talking about and dying to play for a very, very long time.

Summary: Breakthrough in multiplayer FPS
Review: Unreal Tournament blows the competition out of the water in terms of ease of use and multiplay. It has dozens upon dozens of configurable options that can suit anyone from a real newbie who has never touched a computer in his/her life to a hardcore gamer with years of experience like me. The graphics are as good or better than Quake 3, even though there are no curved surfaces. The requirements for running this game aren't too steep. It runs fine on my old Pentium Pro 200/128 MB ram/voodoo2, and is absolutely incredible on my 1GHz athlon thunderbird/256 MB ram/voodoo 3. There are no hints of slowdown on any of the included maps. Which brings me to the point of how varied and unique the levels are. There are dozens of levels in the game and thousands of quality works available in the extensive UT community. There are several completely different styles of play, for those who are a little bored with the ole deathmatch thing. The single player campaign isn't too cohesive, but it offers the newbie good training for multiplay. The game connects to a server that lists thousands of servers on which you can play. There is virtually no lag on most of them, and if you have broadband then you're set. In a word, FUN. I've had this game for almost a year and I still play it for hours on end sometimes.
