Summary: Horrible. Simply Horrible.
Review: I thought the premise was interesting enough to warrant picking this one up out of the ol' bargain bin.

That was a mistake. Save your money for something better, like, say, elective exploratory prostate surgery. Without anaesthetics.

I wasn't expecting great graphics, or even gameplay, really. The engine is pretty dated, and doesn't look like it was that great to begin with. Enemy AI wasn't too bad- slightly reminiscent of Half-Life, the way they used grenades. What kept me going was the story behind the action- I was simply interested in seeing how it was executed, and how it would unfold.

Sadly, IronStorm crashed to the desktop after fifteen minutes of gameplay, on the average- sometimes much, much more often. Maddening! Patching didn't help. I also found that patching it eliminated cheat codes and trainer access (I was playing for the entertainment of the story, not the twitchy shooter thrills). IronStorm still crashed all over the place. I gave up on the "alternate history" and thought I'd give the multiplayer facet a try.

Interestingly, I didn't seem to encounter the crashes in multiplayer, but still found it incredible that the multiplayer spawns players with no weapon selected! You've got a crappy default pistol, but you have to always select it at spawn, or you're defenseless. Add that little gem to the usual mix of spawn campers on public servers, and it gets really irritating in a hurry.

Bottom line: It had a lot of promise, but it's junk. Sorry, Dreamcatcher, you've published a nightmare. This game stinks.

Summary: Ironstorm - 50 years of WWI Combat Shooter
Review: I was very compelled to write a review regarding this game. This 3d shooter stands above the rest of the games of its type by rewriting an alternate history for the story plot. The game asks the question: "What if WWI never ended and instead continued to be fought in the trenches for more than 50 years? Spanning from 1914 to 1964, Ironstorm combines all the weaponry and technology from the WWI, WWII, Vietnam era and other unseen inventions that would have been created if WWI did in fact continue on for so long. The graphics of this game are superb and the background lanscaping makes the feel of a worn torn alternate era. The sound is decent and the gameplay is good. The player can alternate from first person 3d shooter view to a 3rd person view. The game requires much more than just run and shoot up the baddies. In fact it requires quite a bit of crawling around and infiltration. There are no cheats for this game available except thru a downloadable trainer. I only gave this game 3 stars because it is very clear that 4X stuidos and Dreamcatcher co. rushed this game to the stores without testing out all the bugs just to make a quick buck. In fact the newest patch 1.02 does not fix most of the major bugs but it does fix some minor bugs for those people who experience game crashes if they own a usb keyboard or mouse. But even after installing the newest patch, the game will still crash back to desktop everytime (1 min of gameplay before it crashes). Another problem that I have experienced is a sound problem. Sometimes the gameplay will be choppy and the sound for the game will be nonexistent if you hit escape and try to save your game. It really is disappointing however to see such a great game with a good concept go to waste because of so many bugs that have yet to be corrected. My advice for those people who are thinking of buying this game are:
1) Wait for the next patch (current patch is 1.02) and hopefully the game crashes and sound issues will be corrected.
2) Wait until the game comes out with a newer version at retail stores.
3) Wait until this game drops in price. Current price I purchased it for was 34.99. Maybe the game will lower its price even more because of the gameplay issues.

Gameplay = 5/10
Graphics = 9/10
Sound = 5/10
Value = 6/10

Summary: A True Brain Tester
Review: I've completed several games from start to finish, even received 4 stars (general) in Janes USAF, but I have never finished a game with tears in my eyes. I felt like I had just won a hugh battle against several large grizzlies. Tip, be patient.

Summary: Game suffers from serious functionality flaws
Review: Ignoring the last reviewer, I will most certainly share the problems I've experienced thus far with this game. If I could give the game "0" stars, I would in a heartbeat.

My system exceeds the minimum listed requirements for this game (My NVidia TNT2 card is specifically mentioned as being supported). In fact, it exceeds most of the recommended requirements. I have not been able to get the game to work at all. After running the intial video introduction, the game crashes and returns me to my desktop.

Attempts to contact technical support have not been successful. A check of the user forums on their website reveals that many, many people have experienced similar problems with no support from Dreamcatcher.

I've loaded dozens of similar games on my pc without any major problems. Not one problem with Medal of Honor or Delta Force.

Never have I experienced such a lack of customer commitment than I have with Dreamcatcher. It is almost as if they know they've released a bad product and are too shadey to acknowledge it or make any serious attempts to do anything about it.

I strongly recommend against purchasing this game. If you want a fun military FPS game, go with Medal Of Honor, Delta Force or something else more reputable.

Save yourself money and lots of frustration.

"Computer ineptitude." Bah!

Summary: Few Flaws but, a lot of Fun
Review: Iron Storm is probably one of the most gross games I have ever played but also one of the most fun. The fact that when you toss a grenade at someone they blow up and thier limbs go flying splattering blood everywhere.I know war is terrible but this is just unreal. If your squimish this is not the game for you. I've also noticed in the first level if you shoot one of the soldiers they fire back and try and kill you but, if you kill the nurse or the cheifs no one cares, weird. The game has a lot of pluses too, for instance the guns abosisly have been made from a junk yard do to lack of resorces and all of the weapons are farely crude(Awsome). Another cool factor in the game is that you can sneek up on an enemy and kill them with your sabre with one hit. Bening in the treches most of the game is pretty scary when your first playing it, you could die just around the corner. The towns look fantastic graphic wise. AI is sort of a bust, for instance I was out of ammo and I just walked around the bad guy and killed him with my sabre. Other than that the game is lots of fun if your in to half-life and Quake kinds of games.

Summary: Alternate History In 3-D
Review: IronStorm is a fantastic alternate history based game where you take on the role of Lieutenant James Anderson as he tries to bring "THE WAR" to an end. What would happen if WWI never came to a close? Iron Storm helps you to find out!

Graphics: Absolutely fantastic I have not seen graphics done to this intense level in an FPS, on such a grand scale, since Half-Life was first released. The smoke in this game is just absolutely fantastic, you will fall in love with the graphics with the introduction movie which is done with the game engine.

Sound: While the voice acting is a bit rugged overall it is well done and rather appropriate for each particular situation. The sound effects in general are stunningly well done, however certain aspects (particularly weapon sounds) come off a bit weak. Surround sound helps alot with this particular game.

Game Play: The sneak missions are incredibaly difficult to play through while everything else is relatively difficult but not too difficult to keep you from playing through the game. There are a few areas where things need to be changed but hopefully they will be updated with a patch by Dreamcatcher.

AI: the AI is marvelously done and results in some nail biteing action and some very difficult situations that you will have to get yourself out of.

Replay Value: Relatively high. With a single player game that is worth playing through more than once and a multiplayer game that is fantastic (although rather laggy at the moment with a small amount of community support) Iron Storm is sure to give you hours of replay time.

Overall I would definately say this particular game is worth its price, especially if an SDK is released so that modifications can be made. I can see IronStorm building up a community to rival even that of Half-Life and its respective modifications (IE Counter-Strike).

Summary: Iron Storm is a Great game
Review: IronStorm is a great game I bought it this weekend and have not stopped playing it. The graphics are impressive, sounds is good although the voice over at the beginning of the game is a little bit choppy. The game play is what makes this game great, the enemy AI is very good, the environments are done very well, and the storyline is interesting.

I had no problems running this game, I have not once had a crash while playing it like other reviewers stated. I am running windows ME, AMD Athlon 1.2G, 384MB of RAM, with a GeForce2 Ultra 64MB video card.

The Multiplayer looks great but there are not many servers to play on and I am on a 56K dialup, so I have only played it online once.

Overall if you liked SOF, SOF2, and MOHAA you will like this game.

Summary: Plenty of flaws but still a good game.
Review: It is a good game. I've taken an interest in alternate history and that's why I bought this. First of all, I noticed the name Dream Catcher appearing when I started the game. I was a bit nervous because I played From Dusk Til Dawn which is also Dream Catcher and it was so horrible I stopped playing. In this game, you play as Lieutenant James Anderson. World War 1 never ended, lasted for 50 years. The character models are ok but they're nothing special. The graphics are excellent. There is also great atmosphere. You see bodies and wrecked tanks on the battlefield, even old fashioned cannons. Now onto the bad things. There are bugs. In some levels you can get shot through the wall by enemies. You can barely aim the rocket launcher at the enemy helicopters(not a bug but pretty annoying). Plus the game is very difficult, large waves of enemies can kill you in a second. I hope there will be other alternate history games but hopefully with less flaws. That's not to say this game is not worth getting but the problems need to be fixed.

Summary: serious design flaws
Review: My computer exceeds system requirements for the game and I could barely get passed the intro screen before I got kicked back to my desktop. I tried reinstalling without any positive success and have neither the time or energy to mess with patches or customer support (based on earlier reviews it sounds like it would'nt do much good anyway). No, I think I will just return this "game" and avoid future Dreamcatcher titles.
