Rating: Summary: Crash 2 is a better name Review: I have a P3 933, 256 Ram, 32 meg DDR video card, full SCSI 160, W2K system and cannot get this game to run. No matter what I do it plays for about 5 seconds and then crashes back cleanly to the desktop w/o an error message. I have applied six patches to bring it up to date, and now it crashes faster. Very frustrating.
Rating: Summary: TRIBES 1 MUCH BETTER!!!!!! TRIBES 2 IS A PAIN IN THE A** Review: I was expecting something great, something amazing, something like I've never seen before. I was VERY disapointed!!! Tribes 1 was great!!!! it worked well, played well, and was lots of fun. Then I put in Tribes 2 for the first time and imediatly noticed the choppy pour graphics and lousy game play. I tried to turn my character(I have a 500 mhz cpu, 128 mb ram, and Voodoo3) and it was extremly choppy and slow. I pressed the fire button and the game froze for 5 seconds and then finally my weapon discharges. Why did they have to use such a complex engine in this game!?!?!? I went through the hassle of downloading patches and stuff but still!, lousy choppy gameplay!! If this game wasn't so anti-compatible, maybe it wouldn't be so hated by half the people who purchase it. JUST STICK WITH TRIBES 1!!!!!!!! Tribes 1 offers better graphics, easy to set up online play, and is very compatible. You don't need a 1 ghz cpu to play it either. A simple 200 mhz machine can handle this game! For some reason the graphics are much better but require less power than tribes 2. The only cool thing with Tribes 2 is the opening movie (very cool). If you already own tribes 1 and are looking for new online fun, try Unreal Tournament. It may not be appropriate for younger gamers but it remains one of the most fun games played online to date.
Rating: Summary: Gaming opinion Review: I consider myself a working professional who enjoys the latest FPS. I was really looking forward to Tribes 2 but just removed it from my harddrive. Granted- my specs are on low end- p2 350, 128 mg ram, creative gforce 2 32mb video card, but I just could not get this game to look or play very well. UT and No One Lives forever run fine. In T2, my graphics were choppy, each day brought a new online bug patch, weapons seemed outdated, and all in all, it just wasn't a pleasant playing experience. Counterstrike still rules and Serious Sam (brand new), is a refreshing, low priced, treat. Oh well- maybe this summer when I upgrade to a 1.1 athlon and get cable...
Rating: Summary: Good game but many gamers can't play Review: I've purchased the CD, and have played and love the game. Its fun, I'll admit it, even on a decent 56k connection. Let me qualify that, I use Earthlink for 56k dialup modem service, and in my area the actual dialup and internet connectivity are provided by UUNet, THE internet company (no I don't work for them). On my 56k connection I get descent game play. WHY I RATED THE GAME AT 1 STAR 1) I don't like playing with my original cd's. I make a copy and store the original so its not damaged, especially when I travel with it. There is copy protection built into the CD, and there is copy protection built into the game. The copy protection *IN* the game is a cause of MANY game play problems. The algorithm they use checks for the cd during a game, which it will randomly check during and also at the beginning of every match, and if that check fails, it will lock the game, boot you, or crash your machine all together. This is FACT! And the game has had to go thru several updates in part because the check has problems with lower speed cdroms, older, and some off brand cd rom drives as well! 2) more and more frequently, people with decent stats for their system can not play the game. I'm telling you.. I've played before and loved it.. but I haven't been able to play for nearly 6 months now. I upgraded to windows 2000, and since then I've not been able to play even on a system that EXCEEDS their recommendations. If you have windows 98, I think you should have little problem playing the game (as long as you have met the minimum or better recommendations for machine), and as I started with Tribes2 on 98 and had very little problems. If however, you are on any other OS (Win ME, XP, 2000) you may not be able to play or may have to resort to odd work arounds to play or play in a diminished Software Video mode rather than Hardware Supported 3d / Open GL Video mode. So in ernest, if you've played Tribes, Tribes 2 is just as fun if not more so, and has the same look & feel with better graphics, and for that the game rates 4 stars.... but because of my experience, and the literal HUNDREDS of other gamers that have had nothing but trouble trying to get the game to even RUN ... I have to rank this at ONE star.
Rating: Summary: What are they talking about? Review: This is a great game. I have a Voodoo 3 card and it runs fine. The graphics are out of this world. Buy this game. The weapons are nice and it is much better than the first one. My only complaint would b with the amount of lag on some of the servers, but what can you do?
Rating: Summary: cool...but not cool enough Review: The first time I played this game I thought everything about it was superb--the graphics were beautiful--sounds were cool--and just a really cool game in general....but after I played it for about 20 minutes I got extremely bored with it and never wanted to play it again.
Rating: Summary: Close but no cigar Review: Tribes 2 is a good, immersive and solid game with a steep learning curve. Those looking for a First person shooter will be somewhat disappointed. Yes, it is amazing to be able to wander around huge expanses of land and frag people, but the difficulty in controlling your man as well as the ... weapon selection will turn off fans of QIII and Unreal Tournament (the latter being, by the by, the best EVER in my opinion). Also, the first person mode stinks; I realize Tribes 2 was designed as an online game first, but so was UT and that 1st person mode is great.
Rating: Summary: Whats all the complaining? Review: I have a friend who has this game, as well as I, and neither of us have any problems to complain about. Sure its slow on his machine, which is a 450Mhz AMD K6-2, 128MB of RAM and a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP. But it is not unplayable, yes it doesn't look great like pictures, but its good enough to play. Myself, I have a P3-600, 512MB of RAM, GeForce2 32MB and its fine cranked to the max resolution, and all the sliders up. I even turned 4X FSAA on and it was playable (as well as incredible). The only thing that I may have going for me is WINDOWS 2000 and OPENGL. That combo is awesome for many games.
Rating: Summary: The Average Guy Review: Before buying Tribes 2 know the following: 1. You need a fast computer, my Duron 750 w/ 256MB ram and a 64MB Radeon is not fast enough to run it smoothly when the action heats up. Lag kills. . . 2. Most all of the weapons are slow firing weapons firing slow projectiles making it frustrating to deal with the vast distances you encounter in the game. Think slow Team Fortress grenade launcher on a very large outdoor map. "You hit the guy! was he standing still?". . . 3. Steep learning curve. I never played the original Tribes and it is taking a while to learn all the controls and options. . . Overall I find Tribes 2 to be a dissapointment. Counter Strike is still my favorite. First person action is all about immediate response. The game is more immersive if you can react as fast as you would in real life. Tribes 2 needs to pick up the pace.
Rating: Summary: well... Review: it would have been a good game some years ago, but as a fps, UT is better, as a team game with rts elements, allegiance is better... i rather play allegiance than lose time with tribes 2
