Summary: Sierra is still supporting Tribes 2!
Review: Tribes 2 is making a comeback.

This is the best game, it has everything!

This is what makes Tribes 2 better than the rest: deployable turrets and sensors, system management, lots of armors, large (infinite size - I'm not kidding) maps with fully functional terrain, full interactive water environments, jet packs, unique voices, realistic vehicles - ground and flying, a true voting system for administration, kicking, map change, team damage, game mode, etc, actual weather that effects you as you play (i.e. lightening will strike and hit people and vehicles), unique character voices and animations, indoor environents that rival anything Quake 3 has to offer, and more.

There is a new patch coming...Tribes 2 has lots of gameplay modes, not just CTF, and you can get mods that change these modes.

It has the most advanced voting system, graphics, use of vehicles, and animations and sounds to date - and look at the date I'm writing this review - I'm comparing it to recent 2002 games.

Get it, you won't regret it!

Summary: What to expect from this game
Review: First off, I have a high end system (w/ GeForce3) and a cable modem. Since I greatly exceed the minimum requirements, I feel I can accurately describe how the game should optimally run.

Graphics: The actual models aren't too impressive, other fps games have better models for both players and weapons. It's landscapes however, are staggering. The amount of space you play in is akin to a zone in everquest, it's HUGE. The terrain is also similar to what you'd see in everquest, probably a bit more detailed. So, I'd say Tribes2 ranks about average when it comes to detail, but does very well when you consider the terrain.

Sound: There is nothing terribly unique about the sound effects, however sound plays an essential role in this game. Not only is there voice support, there are dozens of preset commands that are prerecorded. For example: V-N-B - V activates the vocal commands, Selects 'I need,' B selects 'a bombadier' These greatly facilitate the team play that makes Tribes 2 special. Because of how sound is used to make the game more playable, I have to give it high marks for that.

Control: Ok, it's good and bad. Good in that there are many different things you can do, bad that you have to learn them all. The default settings will also drive a classic FPS player nuts, but fortunately controls are completely customizable.

Gameplay: This is the finest team FPS game I've played. I was a HUGE Team Fortress Classic addict, but it can't touch this when it comes to the necessity of teamwork. There are so many different roles for a person to play, and it's possible to rapidly change those roles as needed. ON defense you don't just defend your flag, you need to defend your generator that powers your base, your turrets so they can help defend against enemies, your vehicle base so your team can maintain a vehicle presence, etc. THe same goes for offense. Going directly for the flag will tend to get you killed over and over. ONe person takes out the turrets, another provides cover, and another grabs the flag, during the confusion, ANOTHER sneaks inside the base to cause more havoc. Almost every other FPS game you succeed by straight killing the other players, in Tribes 2, if you do that you'll end up missing the guy that just blew up your base turret.

If you're looking for more human interaction in a FPS game, THIS is *the* game. If you enjoy the straight deathmatching, then you should look elsewhere.

Summary: Fanatically Fun!!!!
Review: Tribes 2 is one of the best games I've played to date!

There are so many things you can do,there is not enough space
in this column to even scratch the surface.

For starters, you must have a good on-line connection, cable or DSl;too have the most fun with the game.
Though you can play off-line,to practice and hone your skills.
Video graphics are not demanding at all,so just about any video card should work.

There are about 10 different games to choose from, although my farvorite is "Siege". In Siege, you choose a player role, which you can switch at any time,by popping in a inventory station.
The object of the game is to completely destory your opponents ability to protect is flag, which is protected by force fields;by destroying the power sources (generators),then touch your opponents flag,to capture his base. All must be preformed in a limited time slot. Then roles are reversed.Beat the best time,to win that round.

How you choose to carry out this mission,is where the fun begins.
For example, you can select a "Asassin kit" from you inventory station, and choose the "Cloak pack",to have the abililty to be cloaked, and sneak into your oppponents base, and cause all types of mischief. Destory your opponents inventory stations,so he cannot repair his generators, once they are down.

Another example, with the same Asassin kit,is to choose a "depolyable camera kit". Then sneak into the opponents base, plant little cameras in key areas, sneak out, then select your "Command circuit HUD",and spy on the enemy,by watching the implanted cams. then plan your attack.

To protect you own base outside, from enemy assault, you can plant "Land Spike Turrent",but wait, not only will the turrents shoot plasma pulses, but you can also control the turrents with turrent view, and shoot plasma pulses yourself.Plant "Spider Turrent" inside you base for protection.

Not the violent type? No problem. You can get a "Repair Kit",and simply go around your base, and repair damaged turrents, cameras, inventory stations,etc...

You can plant "Motion Sensors",that detect cloaked enemies.
You can select "Sensor Jammers kit",to jam enemy sensing hardware, for more sleath missions.
You can select a powerful "Satchel Charge pack",for hit and run explosion, one satchel charge can wipe out one generator,or fragment 6 enemies and damage there equiptment.

This just a description of one game. The others, included on the CD-Rom offer there own unique playing strageties.

EnJOY!!!

Summary: Even better then the original...
Review: The two main criticisms of the game are this:

1. You need a killer machine to play it. True. But if you do got a fairly good machine(Maybe around 800 mhz or higher, Geforce 2, etc) then it rocks.

2. Its too much like the original. While this game adds a ton of stuff and innovates, at its base it is somewhat similar to the original. But thats fine with me-I love the original, and there is still plenty of new stuff here to make it worth buying.

That aside, this game rocks. It takes a few days to get used to if you didn't play the original, but you can practice some offline, and for people who played Tribes 1 its easy to pick up. This game has a lot of variety- You can play it 1000 times and never have the same game. There are about 64 maps in box, and many more are playable(Most are server side, you don't even need to download). I can snipe from a ridge, cloak and sneak into their base, or put on heavy armor and a shielf pack and mortar them. I can man turrets, pilot vehicles, or set in at base and give orders. And there are already many modifications to make sure the game doesn't get old. And there are many kinds of play, from the standard Deathmatch and Capture the Flag to the original Rabbit, Bounty, Siege, and Capture and Hold modes, plus Hunters, Team Hunters, and more. Its beautiful, too, with rolling landscapes and eyepopping special effects. The maps also don't have a limit-they go on forever. The built in community features work great-I can chat, post in forums, browse Tribes sites, read news, and send and recieve e-mail all without having to leave the game. All in all, this is definitly worth a buy.

Summary: Tribes 2: One-of-a kind FPS game
Review: Having read the reviews of this game I was a little skeptical about its quality. I've been playing FPS games since Doom 1 so I've been around the block so to speak. I tried the demo before I bought it and it's a blast! Halo (on the xbox) was wise to borrow the vehicle concept, which I must admit is much more impressive on T2. Where this game really shines is the strategy you can use, a true rarity in most FPS aim and kill-type games! The choices you have before you are almost endles such as choosing armor, packs, and weapons. I would say this works both ways for you and the computer, seldom when you replay a map will the same things happen as before.

I am not sure about the complaints people have had with the requirements for this game. I use a P3-700 with 512Mb of RAM and a Geforce256 with 32Mb of DDR RAM. The game runs flawlessly for me at 800x600x32. If you are knowledgeable with PC's you should know this was pretty cheap system to put together. If T2 is giving you performance issues I would try more RAM before any other upgrades. I think it's the best option because it is the least expensive and improves your system's overall speed.

The only real complaint I have against this game is that it is lacking in the single-player mode. For me this is a big deal as I dont't like playing online continuously. Also, some people might not like it because of the steep learning curve but for me it makes T2 a much more enjoyable experience.

Summary: This game is outstanding!!
Review: After reading the T2 forums and looking over the reviews here, I have to add in my 2 cents worth. This game is excellent.

On a Thunderbird 1.1Ghz, 256MB PC133, GeForce2Ultra 64MB DDR, SB Live running Win 98SE, connected via a cable hookup, I have flawless framerates, with 1024x768 res, 32bit, everything maxed.

If you have a gripe about game play or lack of teamwork, join another server, there are only, what, 700+ of them. Or join a clan/tribe and develop teamwork skills. Compared to the first-erson shooters I've played before (Unreal, Q3), this is head and shoulders above them. Yeah the weapons aren't BFGs and they don't have unlimited ammo caches all over the freaking place, but hey, take the good with the bad. IF you're a good gamer, that's not gonna be a problem.

The learning curve is VERY steep however, so do a lot of training sims until you get the hang of piloting vehicles (anti-grav vehicles that is, make sure you understand how inertia and vectoring works) and learn your keyboard layout. Above all, remember it's just a game, if you find yourself getting stressed, turn it off and try again later when you've cooled off.

IMHO, this is one of the better games I've gotten in a long time, it's refreshingly different and challenging enough that I won't get tired of it too quickly.

Plus it just kicks ... to pick someone off at several hundred meters with a laser and not get in trouble for it :).

Summary: Tribes 2 Review
Review: Tribes 2 is a sequel-based game to the classic Starsiege and the later-released Starsiege Tribes 1. Overall this game is great for your typical hardcore gamer, as this game is fast-paced and action-packed. Many users will find this game challenging, as the level of competition increases every year as the popularity increases. The game has many features that are suitable for most users:

Great graphics and Highly Detailed

Excellent Online Gameplay, with everything at your fingertips.

Excessively Large and Friendly Online Community

Well-Organized and Built-In Community with Chat, Customization Options, Forums, Automatic Updates, News, and Training.

Customization Options, such as 'Your Own Tribe' (Clan), and and skin options from Different types of armor to your Player Name.

Over 4 Different Types of Vehicles you can drive from 1-6 player support (meaning 1 through 6 players may ride in the same vehicle, depending on the vehicle.)

And so much more, I could go on and on!
The Technical System Requirements are fitted to work on most systems:

Operating Systems

Win95B, Win98, Win2K, WinME, WinNT (Service Pack 4.0), and Win XP

System RAM
64MB Minimum (128MB Suggested)

Hard Drive Space
531MB Hard Drive (with 300MB Swap Space)

Peripherals
DirectSound-compatible Sound Card required
DirectInput-compatible Controllers are supported

CPU Speed
Video Cards (12MB VRAM or better REQUIRED)

Min CPU (300Mhz) : GeForce, GeForce 2, Diamond Viper II, ATI Rage 128.

Min CPU (400Mhz) : TNT, TNT2, Radeon, Matrox G400, Matrox G450, Voodoo 3

Min CPU (500Mhz) : Voodoo 2, Voodoo 4, Voodoo 5, Kyro, Permedia 3.

NOTE: Any card listed at a lower CPU can be used (of course) with higher CPUs. The listed CPUs are MINIMUMS for those cards.

ALSO NOTE: The Voodoo 3 has a lower threshhold CPU than the V4 & V5 because its drivers handle texture swapping better.

ONE LAST NOTE: Some of these cards actually perform adequately on lower systems than I list here, but graphics have to be turned down to a point that we find unacceptable. Users can make up their own minds on that, if they wish.

And as I said this is a great game, probably one of the best games for computer, with the Unreal Tournament Series as an alternative...
