Summary: Endless Wartime Possibilities...
Review: This is a truely entertaining game. It is a very open ended game. Wanna land on an enemy aircraft carrier? Well, you can. Think landing is to risky? Try the parachute. Or perhaps it might be better to just torpedo the ship. All of that assumes you want to fly a plane of course. Perhaps tanks are more your thing. Or how about sniping? Grab a tank or hitch a ride as a gunner.

This game probably implements the best multi-player experience that is currently available. It's only up to 64 players per game, but that makes things even better. In fact, I personally enjoy the game with less than 20 players the most (otherwise waiting for vehicles - if you are interested in them - can be quite taunting...).

Great maps. Greap game mechanics. Great performance. Great fun. I give it 5 stars.

Summary: Well done. Best for multi player.
Review: This game is fun in one player mode. The graphics are very good, and game patches have fixed some problems with sound quality compared to other games. Where this game really shines though, is in online multi player mode. WWII has never been portrayed in such an open manner. There is access to more items, and to more communication than in any of my other favorites. Drive the tank, fly the plane, command a ship. It's here. Pay close attention to learning the key combinations that allow you to coordinate with others on your side though. If you don't master teamwork in this game, you will spend a lot of time getting killed (kind of like the real war game). I think it is a must have, even if you never give up on Medal of Honor.

Summary: A lot of trouble
Review: I had a LOT of trouble with this game and I have a pretty hefty gaming PC. It locks up my computer all the time and I cant even play it. I have downloaded the patch and I am still having trouble with it locking up and occasionally the sound will not even play. I have almost [$$$] in the game, the expansion pack, and the prima guide and it is just setting on my desk. I am an avid PC gamer and I have never had so much trouble with a game. I would advise anybody who is thinking about this game to go to the official Battlefield 1942 web site and check out the message board. You will see that i am not the only one with this problem.

Summary: A great expansion to a great game
Review: Battlefield 1942 Expansion: The Road to Rome is an expansion to the hugely popular game Battlefield 1942 - bringing new maps, new units and new vehicles.

This is definitely a great expansion, providing real improvements over the already engrossing Battlefield 1942 gameplay. The new maps include Operation Husky in Sicily and Monte Cassino, where you're assaulting a hilltop monastery.

There are new vehicles too, many which help emphasize teamwork. There's the British Mosquito and the German BF-110 plus the M3 Grant tank and APCs. There are two new unit sets too - the French Legionnaires and the Italian Army.

There's an upgrade included in the set which you can get for free on the web, which for dial-up users might be a big benefit. Definitely an expansion to buy for any Battlefield 1942 fan!

Summary: Great game If you have Great System
Review: This Game Is addicting and Fun .. Graphically it is a marvel to look at. With that said, those who have less than a Pentium 4 1.0 gigahertz computer need not apply. This game pushes your CPU to the limits...played this with a Pentium III 500 AND in AREAS where alot of action Pauses did accur.
Now I am running it with a Pentium 4 2.4 gigahetrz Smoothly.
Now onto the Multiplayer aspects
Multiplayer Gamers MUST Have High speed Modems.
Dial-Up WILL NOT work without slow downs and pauses
The latest 1.31 patch fixes some but not all problems with Multiplayer...
So if you have a great system and a high speed Connection, Stop reading and go Buy this game now. FIVE STARS

Summary: Buyer Bewar
Review: First of all. READ THE REQUIREMENTS! This game takes more than a store bought "I just paid 2k computer and it should run anything" type of computer. This game stretches the limits of what games can do now. You NEED a very good video card, and at least 512 ram just to play this game decently. Most store bought computers barely come with a 32ram chip and it takes about a 128 to play the game well. Also, you need a DSL, cable, satellite type internet connection to play online, dial up will not do.

Aside from that, this game is incredible. The team strategies involved makes this so worth it. This isn't your typical 1st person shooter where you can run through a mob gunning everyone in their path. I love getting drilled by a sniper from 100 yards away while crawling on the ground, makes it more realstic than any shooter game I've ever played.
I highly recommend this game to those people with soupped up computers or a store bought Alienware. The rest of you...too bad.

Summary: A disappointing expansion
Review: I am a huge war buff and found the original Battle field 1942 a blast. After playing the new missions on the expansion, Road to Rome, I found they were alot of fun also. Being only 6 more missions on the whole expansion, I was a bit disappointed. Besides new vehicles, weapons, and the addition of France and Italy to the battles it is basically the same as its predacessor.Your dfinately getting a bang for your buck if your looking for great online play, otherwise it tends to get old quicklyon the single player missions.

Summary: Pass this one on, its not all that good
Review: This game would be good if it was possible to have over 100 people on a server. The maps are so huge that it takes 2-3 minutes to get into some action. Since at most 32 people can get on a server through the internet, otherwise the lag is ridiculous, the game would [be bad]. Games like Half-Life, Medal of Honor, and Unreal Tournament are great for that reason. If you die, you get right back into the battle within 10 to 15 seconds.

On the otherside of the table this game is not that realistic. I mean, you control one guy who can take over a battleship and switch positions on the battleship with the push of the number pad? Personally, I like the feeling of being one person, who can control one thing at a time, or go into the battlefield with just my gun alone to fight. That's where this game lacks, most of the fighting in this game is between one guy controlling a whole battleship vs. one man who controls a tank. There is rarely man on man fighting. Vehicles are overused in this game. And like I said, this would be OK if more people could compete on one server, because then you could get more people to control one vehicle, which is realistic.

On a positive note, this game has amazing graphics, and realistic weapons and vehicles. If you want mindless gaming, go with this game. But if you want unrelenting action, go with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault.

Summary: Quake again!?
Review: So my friend bought me BF1942 for Christmas which I thought was pretty cool because hey, free game! But anyways I was reading the manual before I played the game and it was sounding really good. The levels are colorfully described and it sounds like a really fun game. However, I was dismally wrong. The single player game for Battlefield 1942 is exactly like the multiplayer, except bad. Even with the patches it's really bad. The gameplay is really jittery and the framerate sucks. Even at the highest level the bots you play against are pretty dull AI-wise. But at least you can adjust how dull they actually are. Whether slightly dull or extremely dull.

Now you may be wondering why I gave this game a 3 star rating if I thought that it was so bad. Well I discovered that if you download and install all the patches then the multiplayer is good and runs as smooth as you would expect from any game. I was able to get myslef hyped up about Battlfield 1942 again through the multiplayer. The game mostly consists of taking victory locations which can then be used as spawn points by your teammates and yourself. There are a variety of vehicles to use in the game. Whether as gunner, driver, or both. These consist of different varieties of tanks for both sides, jeeps, halftracks, planes, and other types of armored explosive shooting vehicles. In island battles you can also put yourself behind the driving and gun controls of a battleship floating off the coast, drive in a Higgins boat full of soldiers, take control of a submarine, oh and taking off in a plane from an aircraft carrier is fun too. Among other things, there are shore battery defilade guns, mounted machine guns, and anti-aircraft guns able to be manned and used.

Some of the tanks have top mounted machine guns which you can control and shoot while someone else drives and fires the tanks. There are also these same mg's on most of the halftracks. The planes come in three different types, regular fighters, heavy fighters with a tail gunner seat, and bombers in a level or two which come with the regular pilot seat as well as side machine guns, tail gunner, and bubble gunner seats. Battlefield 1942 falls short in terms of what types of soldiers you can be. You can be a regular soldier with an assault rifle, a medic with a regular rifle, an engineer with a regular rifle and the ability to plant mines and demo charges and repair things, a bazooka soldier, or a sniper called a "scout" for some reason. it would've been nice to have some different selections in that area.

Planes do take awhile to learn how to fly well and then take longer to learn how to actually be effective with them. You'll see many people just flying the planes around trying to bomb right just because it's fun. Also demo charges and mines are usually completely useless. Especially since mines dissapear after time if nothing drives over them which I find ridiculous. I did manage to find a loophole for single player though. Just create an MP game from the SP menu and play it on coop mode with bots. Voila single player, but with better quality because it's an MP game. Personally, BF1942 felt more like Quake with a World War 2 theme to me. And why EA Games can make multiplayer games so smooth, but single player games so choppy is beyond me.

Summary: Awesome WW2 Shooter
Review: This game is an awesome WW2 shooter. It's weapons are modeled just like they looked and so are the vehicles. That's another sweet aspect of the game. They have all the tanks, planes, jeeps, mounted weapons, etc. I have never played the multiplayer on the game [which I wish to try sometime!] but i'm sure the single player campaings are just as good. The envioronments you play in are very close to what those battlefields really looked like. I think this is one of the best games on the pc, and I can't wait to try out the expansion pack [Road to Rome]. If you like awesome first person WW2 shooters, get this game!!!!!
