Rating: Summary: Multiplayer fun Review: I bought Spearhead purely for the new Multiplayer maps and weapons, and I was not disappointed. The single player is short, but mildly entertaining. This game is a CPU hog (please read the system requirements carefully), it runs fairly smoothly and is a lot of fun. I would not buy this if your computer is near the minimum requirements, however. There are some issues that need patching, but I can't remember a computer game that did not need tweaking of some sort. Recommended!
Rating: Summary: Too Short...Too Annoying Review: I loved the original game. I've had it for several months, and still play it. Unfortunately, this expansion doesn't live up to the original. I bought and finished this expansion on the same day. It took about 2.5-3 hours total. Most of that time was spent on one really annoying level. It's a level where your unit is being shelled by enemy artillery. You have to move back and forth between fox holes between bombardments. You're supposed to hide in the fox holes and move between them during lulls in the shelling. Unfortunately, some shells fall in the fox holes and kill you automatically while you're taking cover. No hit for damage, no nothing. One minute you're crouching in the hole, the next it cuts to an animation of your squad members praying over your body. "Please start again" Basically, you'll know which fox holes not to go to after dying about 40 times. It was much more annoying than the beach landing in the original game. As for additions to the game, it adds new weapons and the ability to lean around corners. Most of the new weapons are so similiar to the originals that they might as well have been left out. Others are useless. For instance, in one mission your trusty M-1 gets replaced by a British Enfield rifle. the Enfield is a bolt action rifle. Think sniper rifle with no scope. Slow firing time makes it far inferior to the M-1...
Rating: Summary: Way too short...too much focus on cosmetics Review: I enjoyed MOHAA, however, the Spearhead expansion pack is a major disappointment. First off, the game is very short...about 5 hours of game play at the most...even for a casual gamer. Secondly, there are some real frustrating moments. The enemy snipers can now actually be seen, however, there are some other areas that rely on "save and reload" methods once you've mapped out the level...this really detracts from the "fun factor". If the game were longer I could live with this, but considering the game contains only 9 missions, I can't. Thirdly, the graphics and sound are top notch, however, you'll need a decent system to enjoy this game. I'm running an Athlon 1800+, 512M RAM, and a GF4ti and still had hiccups and slowdows. Nothing unacceptable, but I wouldn't expect this (I didn't have as many of these with MOHAA). There are some fun moments in this game, but it ends too soon. If you put a high value on fancy graphics and production values this is probably the game for you. If you expect more than that, I'd pass on this title.
Rating: Summary: The Best in FPS History... Review: Allied Assault Spearhead as well as its predecessor are by far the best shooters I've ever played. Unreal Tournament 2003, for examle, falls short of it, simply because I dislike its style. More specifically, it's too fast paced and you feel like you're a Ferrari and everyone you're trying to shoot are also Ferrari's. It gets VERY frustrating. MOHAA's game speed is perfect for a war FPS. I can't seem to find any flaws in the game. The multiplayer aspect of the game is worth the retail price alone. Sound is the best I've ever heard. VERY addictive gameplay. It's a game that's going to result in forgetting what food is. I also sometimes find myself craving for the gun action in the middle of something I'm doing. Could be kind of scary but what can I do...Buy this game.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but should have been better Review: Is this expansion worth it? Short answer, no. It's way too short! When the credits started rolling I was almost in shock! I couldn't believe how quick the thing went. No, I didn't play non stop until I beat it. Although there were some parts in a few levels that I had to do a number of times, it was almost too easy. I'd say no more than a couple of hours to play it from start to finish. I didn't even use most of the new weapons since I never had to change them in game. Yes, driving the tank was cool. But that in itself isn't worth the purchase price. If you're hardcore about these kinds of games, by all means get it. But if you're on the fence: wait for it to go down in price. $30 is a bit much to be paying for this mini expansion.
Rating: Summary: Shredding in the second war to end all wars! Review: It doesn't matter if you are a hardcore online gamer; if for nothing else, buy this game for the new single player missions, they are K I L L E R !! The graphics will suck you in and keep you, from 3000 feet above Normandy and on! Of course the game is as scripted as Allied Assault, but talk about feeling like you are starring in your own HBO mini-series! Crank up your pc sound system, and listen to the enemy wail as you waste them with guns that would make Ted Nugent blush! If you liked Allied Assault, you will LOVE this one! Now go play in the snow!
Rating: Summary: You cannot go wrong Review: You simply cannot go wrong with this game. It had a lot to live up to with the original, and I'm glad to say the folks making it did it again. It's better then the original game in several areas like, variety of weapons, audio, and lighting. I felt as if I was the star of a wwii movie. I'm going to play again.
Rating: Summary: Can you say laggy? Review: I was very excited to see Medal of Honor: Allied Assault get an expansion added to it. Now, after playing it, I am greatly disappointed. I enjoyed playing MoHAA, and even though it had its problems, it still was fun to play. The only thing that lagged would be the server. Multiplayer was very fun. So now I have Spearhead and when you pick any online server, it always lags. I have an AMD 1600+ (1.4 ghz) Athlon, 512 mb DDR RAM, a Geforce4 MX 440 video card, and Windows 2000 Professional. I'm on DSL. When I play Battlefield 1942, it hardly lags because EA got smart and got some OC-X servers (very fast). Until you get an update of them doing this, my advice is to not play multiplayer. On to single player. Now this I will admit, great design and gameplay, but could we leave out the lag? NO, its one big problem. If you keep your video settings low, this game won't lag. I enjoyed playing single player, this is why you should buy this game. Until multiplayer is fixed some way, it will bite the dust. Questions, comments? You can chat w/ me on AIM, my handle is Reallystupid1. I'm also on ICQ, my number is 149916704. Hope this helps.
Rating: Summary: You've got to be kidding me! Review: Don't get me wrong, this game is immensely fun to play (I think it was better than the original)...all four hours that it took to complete. Come one, you've got to be kidding me! I want my 30 dollars back. I really feel ripped off. 4 hours? It's like a CD single, one good song and that's it. Ridiculous. Don't buy it or you're going to be p...sed off too.
Rating: Summary: Great improvements nearly negated by big flaws. Review: I've always loved the Medal of Honor series, and Allied Assault is one of my favourite games of the past year. Spearhead has made some good improvements on Allied Assault, but those improvements are offset by some highly substantial flaws. First of all, the price. Whether three new missions and a handful of new weapons are worth the price is up to you. I can say that it's amusing being able to commandeer a Nebelwerfer (the kind you only got to blow up in Allied Assault), and the new revolvers are fun to use, but only three new missions for a purchase price comparable to the original game? Secondly, the system mechanics. Depending on what version of Allied Assault you have, the installation of Spearhead may cause all your old saved games to become unreadable. Finally, gameplay. There are plusses and minuses. The graphics took a big leap forward, but with that comes a price -- controls are harder because of all the eye candy. When enemies get close, they often become flurries because of the graphical details. A great improvement is the ability to use physical attacks (the "pistol whip") with weapons other than pistols. Finally, after three games, they give you this very simple, very useful option. My biggest complaint is in some of the level designs. Not only did Electronic Arts not learn from the negative feedback given to Allied Assault's "sniper" level (also known as the "fighting 100 enemies you can't see" level), but they make it even worse with two of the levels in this game. If you fancy fighting enemies who hit you from all over but whom you can't even see, this is the game for you. Not all levels are like that, but for me, it's a major slip-up in game testing that I have to actually fire blindly into the distance without being able to see my enemies. My biggest complaint is still the price. Frankly, if I'd known there were so few new levels, I wouldn't have bought this game at all. Perhaps the new multiplayer features make it worthwhile? I don't play multiplayer so I don't know. But the package is definitely overpriced. Whereas expansion packs like those for The Sims (Livin' Large being especially impressive) and Armored Core make their original games twice as broad, Spearhead falls far below my expectations.
