Rating: Summary: Poor attempt at single player, good multiplayer expansion Review: Let's face it, when enemies pop in front of you out of thin air and your Captain charges into a courtyard like an idiot with multiple angles of enemy fire from all around you, you're discust for the single player mode will get the best of you.Gripe #1: There are certain "hotspots" in the game where if you cross a threshold, enemy soldiers just "pop" out of thin air. Granted this was in the original game, but at least they came from behind a building or something. In this game, if you go to the right spot, pop into view the soldiers do.... (sounds like a Dr. Seuss book doesn't it) Gripe #2: Your "leaders" are just darn stupid. The 2nd mission illustrates this first - your Captain says "Follow me" runs right across a courtyard where enemy completely surrounds him. You the player, have to kill all the enemy before yourself AND your idiot Captain are killed. If this was an attempt to make the game more difficult, it worked. If it is supposed to be a reflection of reality forget it. No trained soldier would do something so idiotic, and if they did, you'd be glad they died. Gripe #3: I just don't like "invisible walls" preventing me from getting places - in the 2nd level you can climb the railroad tracks to the very top, but you can't go on the railroad tracks. This would have been the most direct route to the train station, but the programmers decided to create an "invisible wall" that you can't go through. At least the original game these were designed as un-crossable barriers (mostly although there were some places in the towns that this happened). On a positive note: The multiplayer mode is improved with new weapons (based on soldier chosen), new personnel to choose from, more realistic handling of weapons (the rocket launcher bobs when you move and they try to reflect the encumberance of the item), the ability to bash with most weapons (and frustratingly you can't with those that already have a use for the second mouse button), and no more of this "lean while moving" multiplayer tactic that makes players harder to hit. If you haven't purchased an expansion pack, you may want to just skip this one and buy "Breakthrough". It appears to have all the multiplayer advantages (I've determined by playing the demo) that Spearhead offers over the original.
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING, SOLDIER!! Review: This game is great! One of the best games I have ever played, and I've played a lot of computer games. Will be purchasing MOH: BREAKTHROUGH tomorrow 09/23/03.. and PACIFIC ASSAULT in January. If you like this game, I would also recommend you picking up CALL OF DUTY (from the makers of Medal of Honor) in November 2003. Don't miss any of these games. Medal of Honor is a pure thoroughbred winner! Go download the demo of CALL OF DUTY at www.callofduty.com
Rating: Summary: Well worth it! Review: Great game! Very challanging and intense. As long as you have a system that can handle the graphics, you should have a blast. My only wish is that it would contain more missions. Overall, good job.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Game, Excellent series Review: This trifle of a game is but one of the 4 (as of now) excellent games in the Medal of Honor(tm) series (not including expansion packs). This, I believe, is the absolute best game in the series. You are a soldier by the name of Lt. Mike Powell. Your mission is to help stop the Nazi war machine dead in its tracks. Start in the hot desserts of north Africa, Travel to frigid tundra of Norway, to the bloody beaches of Normandy. Sneak through dangerous enemy-occupied territory and rescue a G3 officer, infiltrate a small French town and steal King Tiger Tank, and paradrop into the heart of Germany and infiltrate the impenetrable Fort Schmerzen in the Siegfried Forest. Now, a warning: this game gets extremely difficult and exciting in this game. Your enemy will not always be caught off guard. However, when you succeed, the reward is worth the trouble. In addition to single player missions, you may battle your friends in multiplayer in four different modes: free for all, team match, round-based match, and objective match. Every single mode is extremely fun. You may also join gaming clans and have al-out wars with rival clans. Download mods and skins to make your gameplay even more fun (which is almost unimaginable). You can even download custom maps for single-player missions or multiplayer missions! I hope this review helps you make your decision to buy this game a bit easier.
Rating: Summary: Did the Original, did this too............. Review: It was a very nice addition to the original and great for summer time off from work. There were some usual "how in the hell do you do this?" things that went on like the original but none that couldn't be figured out without a little time and effort. Excellent if you liked the first set. Now we can all wait til the next series from the Pacific comes out.
Rating: Summary: Spearhead is awesome Review: ... I pretty much only play online using Gamespy's server system and I think Spearhead is a huge improvement from the original Medal of Honor. Spearhead allows you to club your opponent with your weapon, while in MOHAA you could only club with the pistol. Also new weapons make the game exciting. Great new Bolt Action rifles( Lee Enfield and the Russian Mosin rifles are great weapons in multi-player modes) ... I experience no lag. I do have a DSL connection but big deal, who cares. Get a faster connection. 56K would not work well. I also have a good video card(radeon 9000 pro) and I have 512 RAM but I do not think that I have that advanced of hardware. This game is the best. I could not find a more fun online game to play. It only cost me $... bucks. Worth ever penny.
Rating: Summary: It's not awesome, but not that bad either Review: The original MOHAA didn't allow you to lean left or right in the single player game while it was allowed in multiplayer. Spearhead addresses this shortcoming. The pre-dawn parachuting cut scene was well done (despite a flaw where all the paratroopers hooked onto the rail and then UNhooked while checking each others' chute packs and REhooked!). I mostly liked the additional weapons. While I didn't expect it to be as big as the original MOHAA, I found Spearhead to be short on playtime. I was surprised to find that 1600x1200 video mode wasn't available. I can play RtCW in 2048X1536 without slowing down; I can play MOHAA in 1600x1200 without slowing down; why I can't I play Spearhead in 1600x1200? Although I understand the need to show off the other weapons, why is it that when I link up with the British paratroopers, all of the other weapons I have are gone? The G43 was an improvement over the Karbiner 98 sniper rifle, but you can only use it in one part of the game (short of using a cheat code). The SVT-40 is portrayed as a surprisingly weak weapon, even though historically it was something of a deciding factor in why the Germans lost WWII! "A Night in Hell" has two problems: 1. Real time aerial and satellite video recon didn't exist in WWII; how can artillery fire be so accurate while I'm running to find out the captain's wounded, then running get a medic to bring him to the captain, all during night time? Looks like simplistic programming by EA's programmers. 2. While trying to prevent the Germans from breaking through the line, why is it that when I move beyond the mini trench to further engage the Germans, I die quickly and mysteriously? Is it the same miraculously accurate artillery fire I encountered previously? Hopefully, the next expansion, Breakthrough, will be better done.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Good mindless fun. Online battles excellent. Game could have used some better controls to cut down on some of the obvious cheats (fiddling with gun accuracy, bunny hopping, slowed networks) but still a good time.
Rating: Summary: Spearhead Review Review: All too often is the Soviet Union left out of WWII games, even though almost 60% of the dead in the War were Soviet citizens. The last level of Medal of Honor: Spearhead, "Road to Berlin", fixes this. Though not especially historically accurate -Berlin was taken in May of 1945, not January, and the "new" T-34 model came out in 1943, and not '45, as the game implies- everything else is perfectly realistic. From D-Day to Berlin, I enjoyed the game immensely. The game includes two previously missed but major battles: Bastogne and Berlin. Bastogne was the most fun to play, especially defending the frontline against the Germans. D-Day was included in the original. Overall, the game fixed one major problem of Allied Assault by adding British and Russian troops to the mix. It also made gameplay smoother and multiplayer more fun. Thank you, EA Games!
Rating: Summary: Just a note to those who enjoy darkness Review: Basically, this is just a comment made after playing a bit of the opening Normandy sequence, and perhaps it is unfair for the game as a whole. But the opening sequences of this game are basically played in the dark, and if you really think this is an enjoyable game in spite of this, you are welcome to spend your money (but close the curtains and turn up your screen brightness or you won't see ANYTHING for quite some time). Be aware that "computer dark" is not "real dark," where your other senses play an important role). I have found this quite irritating and not much fun so far, though the game is so predictable after a try or two that it would be hard to fail. It's unrealism carried to the tenth degree in the name of realism. Boring.
