Rating: Summary: This Is One Of The Best Computer Games To Ever Hit A PC! Review: The wait is finally over with. I've waited years to buy "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" because I've heard and read so much about it. I bought the "Return To Castle Wolfenstein Collecters Tin Edition" the day after Thanksgiving. Was it worth it to wait so long and to dish out so much money for the game? You bet it was. It was well worth it. If you go out and buy just one computer game this year, go out and buy "Return To Castle Wolfenstein". I've played a lot of different computer games over the years and this one is the very best computer games I've ever played. The graphics alone are the best I have ever seen in a computer game. And the sounds and music throughout the game are unbelieveable. I have never heard such realistic weapons sounds before like I have in this game. When I fired a rifle, it sounds just like a real rifle should. And you should see the characters and creatures throughout the game. This game has got one of the best AI's I've seen in a game. It is so cool is to see the German guards act like real people. They even question their orders by the German High Command. There is one scene in the game where one of the German soldiers is guarding a wine cellar in a village and this German soldier is completely drunk and he is staggering around trying to sing to the German National Anthem while it is playing over the radio. It was simply hilarious to see something like that in a war like setting. In another scene you can hear a German guard coughing like crazy because it is so cold outside where he is stationed at. The area where that German guard is stationed is covered with snow and the sky is filled with dark clouds rolling across the sky. You start to feel sorry for that poor German guard and you want to tell him to go somewhere warm to get rid of that nasty cough. You start to believe your in a real World War II setting that how real everything looks and feels. And it so cool to see German soldiers and zombies fighting each other while you you just sit back and watch the battle. A lot of people don't realize that the German High Command was really into the occult during World War II and the Germans did try different experiments with the occult during the war. The team who put this game together has done a great job of studying the war. Bravo on making such a fine game.
Rating: Summary: Fun but nothing ground-breaking Review: OK, I'm about halfway through the single player campaign and I've played quite a bit of the multiplayer. It is a lot of fun. The graphics are stellar as is the sound. BUT, it keeps seeming like a bit of "been there, done that." If you've played No One Lives Forever, you will immediately find numerous similarities: from the chatter between guards to the stealth-style required in many missions. It's not that it's bad, since NOLF was a helluva game, but it's deja vu all over again. That being said, it still a fun game, visually and viscerally. The multiplayer is quite a bit of fun but netcode could still use a little tweaking methinks. The life of this game will be defined by the mod-ability of it. I don't think the multiplayer modes as they exist today will play out for that long on their own -- again a bit of "been there" with some of the Half Life WWII mods. BUT this engine has huge potential if they help the mod community along. It's just so gorgeous.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but not the original Wolfenstein 3D Review: When I bought this game, I was hoping for an unchanged redo of the original Wolfenstein. I was wrong, but the new Wolfenstein is a fun game. To run this game, you need an up-to-date computer, with various "cards" to run the new Wolfenstein. The fun I have so far had playing this, is no where near the fun of the original Wolfenstein. Plus, the new Wolfenstein cost a lot of money. Save you money! Get the original Wolfenstein off of Amazon.com. You will have saved your money, AND be playing a much better game.
Rating: Summary: Wait For The Patch Review: From what I have played I love the game but it crashes constantly, even on the "stable" Windows XP. For what I paid for it it should work right out of the box and not need a patch. Wait a month, a patch will probably be out and it'll probably be cheaper too.
Rating: Summary: An action packed, varied fps, but nothing new Review: Ever since Return to Castle Wolfenstein was announced, I've been anticipating it more than any other game. Wolfenstein 3D literally created the first person shooter genre, and I was hoping the sequel to it would break boundries and revolutionize the fps realm again. Well, it didn't. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a great, fast, diverse fps. There are sniping and stealth missions, along with the typical enter-the-facility-and-kill-everyone missions. The variety of play definitely is nice, keeping it from being a Soldier of Fortune where every level is mowing down mindless drones over and over. Even though there are different kinds of playing other than the standard kill-everything missions, we have seen this all before. I think RTCW most wants to be like Monolith's No One Lives Forever; stealth, sniper, and action missions. I basically played this same game last year except it was in the 60's instead of in World War 2. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a really fun game. The multiplayer, although there are only 6 maps, definitely adds to the longevity as well. The only problem with this is one can't help but be dissapointed. There's nothing new here. The 'new' Wolfenstein is just another fun, pretty-looking first person shooter, without any real innovations.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful, Scary, and plays well too Review: This is an amazing game. The graphics are very nice. The textures on the buildings are nothing short from stunning. The actual gameplay is fast and furious (Kind of like quake 3, because it's by I.D. too). The use of scary sounds definitily makes the Wolfenstein atmosphere feel creepy. The levels inside the crypts are terrifying, I even jumped a few times. It may not be as scary as Undying, but it defintely gives you some chills. The story is great and developes throughout the game, sucking you in. Really this game is not that short compared to other FPS's and the fact it has a very good multiplayer means it has tons of replay value. Overall its a great game, that no action fan should miss.
Rating: Summary: GOING TO BE BEST GAME OF 2001/2002 Review: What can I say. I've been paying the demo now for a couple of months. Today (11-21) that game finally hit the store near me. I rushed and paid the otrageous price but it was all worth it. The game doesnt seam to have any flaws yet which I can see. Installing it went fine, and the game runs great on my 1ghz, 512 ram, 64 Nvidia2...AWESOME GAME!! go and pick it up today
Rating: Summary: only thing i liked about this game was the box art Review: iv played the full version's single player all the way throo (wich by the way only took about 7 hours) and this game is pure [...] from start to finish the only thing i liked about this game was the box art :<) everything els in this game compaired to released and upcomming games is pathetic this in my view is pretty much TFC with q3 graphics and none of the fun and the multiplayer is almost as sad as the single player game it gets tired after about 2 hours the best map wich also isnt that great is the beachmap from the demo i resold this game back to EB and reserved ALLIED ASSAULT wich just from looking at it seems to be the best ww2 game out for a while so anyone hungering for a WW2 game wait til FEB when ALLIED ASSAULT comes out it will actually be a WW2 game and not some fake attemp to revive an excelent classic
Rating: Summary: Disagree Review: I disagree with the other comment about this game. I mean unreal 2 does not come out for a while. This game has better guns and graphics than quake 3 arena. This game is awsome. Just get it.
Rating: Summary: Don't listen to the negative reviewers...buy this game! Review: Listen, this game has been in development for two-and-a-half years. Of course, the Quake 3 Arena engine was incorporated because its the prettiest engine around. Licensing of engines is not a new thing. It helps us play the games we want sooner than when developers try and reinvent the wheel. I played the multiplayer test and I have to tell you, if the single player game is good (which I'm sure it will be) it'll be the Half-Life killer we've all been waiting for. The negative reviews are cynical and written by people who think they know everything there is to know about game development. So, until we're able to play the masterpieces these naysayers are obviously working so diligently on, we have a classic NOW with Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
