Rating: Summary: Buy this game now! Review: I love this game no matter what any one else says about it. This game lives up to expectations and then crushes them in the vacuum of space because it goes that much above them. This game is not keyboard only. You can use the mouse like the normal gamer today. Who uses joysticks any way? This game is a great first person shooter and is recommended to any one that loves FPSes.
Rating: Summary: R.T.C.W. RULZ Review: RTCW is, without a doubt the best 1st person shooter i've ever played. I love the storyline, as it unfolds a bit live a movie as the game goes on. I love all the weapons especially the 'Snooper Rifle' because of it's heat sensing ability. I think the sniping bits are the most fun as the guns are wicked and it is so realistic, apart from the occasional zombie or 'X creature' I would definitely reccommend this game to anyone who loves 1st person shooters with great guns, great storyline and that are great fun!
Rating: Summary: Two Words: Lasting. Appeal. Review: This game will suck you in. Although the really interesting single player campaign ends after some time, the multiplayer will have you playing for months. Read the reviews. People(including myself) have played one tiny little multiplayer level and have been hooked for months! One level! It's that good! Everything that a multiplayer mode needs such as voting, spectator modes(which are POV by the way) and an intricate deployment and class system for the co-op teamplay levels. This game is totally stable too. Just be sure to find a dedicated server who gives it's system stats. Some people try and serve games on the worst computers these days... Anyway, the Single Player is quite fun. It expands on the stories of the third reichs efforts to genetically engineer it's soldiers during World War 2. In the universe of this game, the experiments are starting to work. And you have to stop them. Watch out for zombie nazis... Both modes are tons of fun and you will be bored with this game only if you go insane or die or something. The only gripe I have about this game is that all the Germans speak English. While I understand this is fast and action-packed gameplay, they couldve worked around it in some way. Maybe they'd talk in German and youd see subtitles? I'm not sure if the main character is supposed to understand German or not...oh nevermind. I must say though that this game is more on the arcade side of things and if you're looking for a extremely realistic WWII first person shooter, watch for the upcoming Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. But if you want both sides of the spectrum get this too.
Rating: Summary: Follow me! Schnell! Review: This game is a collaboration of quite a few studios, and it does not dissapoint. The gameplay is superb in all areas. Its an interesting fusion of tradional, stomach-turning Quake-style action with engaging story elements reminiscent of games like Dues Ex. The many cutscenes found throughout the game are blended seamlessly with actual gameplay, making for a great interactive experience. But make no mistake - the core of the game is still action and before the adventure comes to an end, you'll have plowed through countless Nazi soldiers and many other horrific monstrosities. Even the most seasoned FPS gamers should find themselves challenged, especially on the highest difficulty level. The graphics are, of course, fantastic. Whether its the breath-taking landscapes or lush textures, the attetion to detail certainly shows, and leaves the gamer feeling right at home in the world of Wolfenstein. As it goes with all id products, you are given a great deal of customization, allowing gamers on low-end systems to maintain playable framerates. The music is also impressive, starting up at key moments to add intesity, though never too distracting. Multiplayer is VERY fun! Teams are composed of four different classes - soldiers, lieutenants, engineers, and medics. All serve an important function in completing the objectives of a given map. The maps themselves have a variety of different objectives, ranging from capturing artifacts/intellegence, to blowing up a communications radar. Holds up well to the current competition - the Day of Defeat Halflife mod. However, RTCW seems to promote more of a cohesive team element with the class dependency. Even those of you with, erm...."sub-par"...FPS skills can still contribute greatly as a support player. Bottom line: this combines all the aspects of old school gaming with the great production values of current games, making for a thorougly enjoyable experience. id demonstrates here that they're still very much in top form! kudos to everyone involved with the production.
Rating: Summary: WARNING!!! KEYBOARD ONLY!!! Review: Just got it, read "Not for joystick", but maybe soon a newer version. What's that? Needs keyboard, lots of commands. I'll probably try it, but for $50, I expect it Joystick compatible!!!
Rating: Summary: Buyer BEWARE! Review: I would have given this game 5 stars except for the hassle of getting it to run. I bought this game, installed it on my 1GHz Athlon system with a 16MB nVidia Vanta card in it. When I started the game, it would complain about OpenGL drivers not being found. So, I went to nVidia's website and got the latest drivers. The game would run until it started to load the first mission, then freeze. I figured a 16meg video card was kind of wimpy, so I went and got an ATI Radeon VE card (it was on sale and has 32megs of DDR ram on it). Well, the drivers that came with the card did not have OpenGL. I figured I was totally screwed now. However, the ATI website had a 10.6meg file that contained the OpenGL support. I downloaded that and everything finally worked. (aside from an occasional crash when I get killed). The moral of the story: Make sure your system is WAY over the specified "minimum" requirements before you buy this game. Now, is it a good game? Hell yes! It's like you're walking around in a movie. The enemies in singleplayer mode are pretty smart, too. I've been having a lot of fun wandering around shooting up everything in sight. Plus, it's kind of cool to see if you can sneak up on enemy guards. The undead are pretty scary. I haven't yet reached Helga's guards but the other reviewers have got me eager to hurry along now. :-)
Rating: Summary: I am glad I do not have a job. Review: ..........because I would have lost it anyway. I have been playing Wolfenstein more and more each day. This is without a doubt the greatest video game I have ever seen. Everyday I learn a new skill and it helps in the combat scenes. My confidence as a fighter has been growing on each level. There are some very difficult challenges along the way and your enemy becomes more and more adept at pumping lead into you and you begin to love it. Last night I dreamed I had just fragged about ten of Himmler's men and had only 5 health points left and I walked into a room filled with hot meals! If you own a computer that can handle this game get up after you read this and go buy it now! P.S. If you know of anyone hiring a marksmen mention my name. I have a great reputation at the Castle.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic- be prepared to play this until you beat it!! Review: My copy of Return to Castle Wolfenstein arrived and I voraciously attacked the packaging, as is my custom with anything that arrives from Amazon. I installed RTCW, which was a snap, and proceeded to play night and day for 3 full days until I beat this fantastic game. It was an experience, which is something that you will understand if you're a true gamer. If you're a new gamer, this game has the potential to give you your first true experience. I'm talking about games like Halflife, No One Lives Forever, or Deus Ex that you don't want to end. I didn't want RTCW to end. The graphics are phenomenal- that is, the landscapes and charcter design are of the highest order. The Quake 3 engine that everyone is talking about is truly worthy of its acclaim. Everything has texture, the enemy AI is realistic, and the in-game dialogue is believable. However, the graphics and gameplay aren't what make this game truly amazing. The story is what RTCW will be forever remembered for. You get to fight Nazis,(always a plus in gaming), but also uncover the secrets of the Third Reich's Paranormal Division. Needless to say, you're in for some creepy confrontations. This element of science fiction mixed with true WWII action is what I loved most about the game. If you have a decent computer, this game is quite worth it. (...) take it from me: I have a good computer which I've customized for gaming and it played like a dream. Even on a less-customized computer this game will run great. I'm giving you a gurantee on this one (...).
Rating: Summary: Worth the wait! Review: I pre-ordered rtcw when I first saw it advertised on Amazon.com (where else?), and it finally arrived. Wow! The graphics and sound are amazing, and it's more fun to play than I can describe here. I have been a Wolfenstein fan since the DOS version of years ago, and this new version delivers all it promised, and more. Even the "easy" skill levels are very challenging. One possible drawback for some users, as mentioned in some other reviews is that it has fairly demanding system requirements, especially in the video area. It also requires 800MB of uncompressed hard disk space. Review the system requirements carefully before breaking the seal on the package. I am running a Pentium II, 400 mhz with Windows Me, 384MB RAM and 64MB nVidia 3d video in 1024x768, and the game performs perfectly. I strongly recommend this game to anyone who likes challenging and violent games.
