Summary: My thoughts on the single Player RTCW
Review: Hello,

First of all, I'm one of the Wolf 3D players who still has
the game installed on my computer. I remember when wolf3d came out and I bought my copy and played it more then any other game .. I was hooked.

Since I got my copy of RTCW, I've only played the single player game and haven't tried multi-player at all. I only have a 56K connection and nothing else is available in my area. (Lag - Sigh.)

The install of the game is easy and I had no problems with it.

I felt the game was more like .. shoot a zombie, rather then shoot a soldier. Some things you have to figure out how to do and in the correct order and so on, but that is ok. The game is fun and the graphics are very nice. When meeting up the with first boss, I found the area (Single room,) was kinda small and the boss only chased me around in that area, Unlike wolf3D. I found the catacombs a bit to dark even with gamma set to full.
I turned the brightness on my monitor to full and it helped somewhat.

I hope they update and add new features to the game which will keep it alive / on going. I also hope the users / players, make cool maps and add-ons that work well with the game.

To sum up, The game is fun to play. Some events are staged events. The gamer should be chased around more by Bosses. All over the level if need be.

It is hard to compare the 2 games though. Wolf3d was excellent for the time it came out (in 1991 I think,) and RTCW being a modern game with excellent graphic design, makes one feel things are different and more - real to life. They are and it works well. Wolf3d has more of a more cartoon look and feel nowadays.
Keep the old feel / old look vrs new feel / new look in mind when checking out this game. Times have changed and the game is modern / different. You can still look behind pictures / find secrets and pick up helth ammo and do all that. Jump around a lot and you'll be hard to hit. Watch out for the bullets bounching back of the shields of the zombies. Move around and take good shots and don't forget your Knife.

The game looks very nice and the game play is smooth. It is easy to move around and play.

Final Thoughts:

This game is a lot of fun. Even if you feel you are not playing a true Wolf3d follow up (not that you won't,) You'll like this game. Scary also. I hear the multi-Player is super.

Just get the game you'll like it!

Summary: Questionable game plot.
Review: Whos idea was it to through zombies, nazis and cyborgs into one installment of Wolfenstein. At times it feels like playing 3 seperate games, like a coctail of concepts encapsuled in a familiar game logo.

For the fellow who thought the game was difficult, try aiming for the head (they die quicker that way).

Yah and the Uber Soldats are panzies with A.I. of a grasshoper (hint: it can't shoot you if it is chasing you around a corner of a wall or a pillar, exposing it's "unarmed" left arm to your fire). One can kill them by the dozens with out getting harmed.

One last rant, even though it proved to offer a diverse pallet of enemies through out the game. Most battles revolved around 1 to 3 enemy units. I want larger numbers of units outnumbering me. Rather then 1 or 2 guys with 1000 hit points. Get an entire platoon after me ( I am a peoples person realy ).

Summary: Wolfenstein is back with a vengence!
Review: I must say, and an avid player of the old Wolfenstein 3D, this game was worth waiting for. I remember endless hours of fun, wondering through hallways, searching for Nazi's to decimate, and this takes that experience to a whole new level. The graphics are just excellent. That's the only word to describe it. It just seems so real, you actually can eavesdrop on your next unsuspecting victim's conversations! I love the new arsenal of weapons, even though I was a little disappointed when I found out there was no Gatlin' Gun as in W3D, but that can be overlooked. My only gripe is about the zombies you have to deal with. Did those really exist in real life? Then why do we have to deal with them on a WW2 simulation? I'll leave it at that! GET THIS GAME!

Summary: Loven' it!!
Review: This game rocks, no if, ands, or buts about it. The graphics are the best I have seen on a first person shooter (Only Half-Life and it's add-ons compare graphically). The cut scenes and the story are excellent. Everything is basically dark in color, but it gives you that WWII feel. The AI is very good as the soldiers duck behind barrels or walls when being fired at. And if you shoot someone in another room they come in with their guns ready. The game is fast paced and runs very smoothly. The on-line play is different from any other. You attack from a beach and try to make it to the objective. Sometimes yu only capture flags. Other times you have to blow up a building and steal gold which you must then take to truck while many opponents try to stop you. This is the best team oriented on-line play I have ever seen. You have 4 choices of characters and each has it's own specialty i.e. an engineer is the only one who can set dynamite. It's the best first person shooter since Half-Life. If you love first person shooters, this is the one for you.

Summary: Probably the best multiplayer game - ever!
Review: When you enter RTCW multiplayer for the first time, most people seem to play it like it was a first person shooter. Well it is - but it isn't...RTCW is the ultimate "only team efforts will prevail" game to date. You must play your role as either medic, lieutenant, engineer or soldier. It is utterly important that the team members communicate and support each other. Keep an eye on the roster to change your role if the team is ill-balanced, even a relatively new player can contribute in this game if they remember to stick to their teammates. And I guarantee you, the team with the best teamwork always win. No exception.

There are 3 different mods: Objectivebased MP, Objective base Stopwatch and CTF mod Check Point. The latter being the least interesting as people tend to run along on their own and forget about the team.

So how about graphics and performance? Simply brilliant, but you will have to have a fairly beefed up machine to have RTCW running really smoothly. I recommend at least 256 mb of RAM, a P3 800 mhz processor and a 32 mb videocard.

And the SP portion of the game? A little short perhaps, but the environments and graphics are fantastic.

Finally, I can only conclude that if there is one game you should buy the coming year; Let it be RTCW! It will not disappoint you...

Summary: This game is so much fun!
Review: Not since the first time I loaded Half Life have I been so impressed by a FPS. This game really lives up to its hype, it's levels are designed very well. The graphics detail are stunning and max out the QIII engine, the voice acting and plot is great, most importantly, the game is just fun. Multiplay is also a blast. I'm not a huge fan of FPS genre of games and I probably wouldn't have even tried this had it not been for my new video card, but this is one is truely exceptional.

Summary: Nothing new but still fun
Review: There's nothing new in this game but it is still a great deal of fun. Its story is pretty much just filler material with nicely done cutscenes, ignore it and go kill more Nazis. The game play is also extraordinarily average, run here and kill some Nazis, run there and kill more Nazis, but it is still quite fun. The weapons are also average fair, there is the usual assortment of pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles, and what not, though the weapons are rather well done, particularly the flame thrower which has the most realistic looking fire effect I've yet seen in a game.

Though the gameplay and weapons are average, the graphics are stellar and the AI fairly competent. The best thing about the graphics is the assortment of different looking characters you will encounter, there are nearly one hundred and fifty different faces and expressions for the characters and nearly as wide a variety of uniforms and accoutrements as well, this is a nice perk that keeps the game from getting that 'clone army' feel (i.e., all the characters look exactly the same so it feels like you're fighting an army of clones). Also, the AI is quite good, they know how to use their weapons with lethal accuracy (standing far away is no defense if you encounter a guard armed with a rifle) and they don't mindlessly stand around in the open. They will run and duck behind cover or move to sound an alarm and summon reinforcements.

The zombies and other undead that you encounter aren't too tough to defeat (with the exception of the three 'bosses'), just make sure you aim for the head as many of them are armed with a sword and shield and will use the shield to deflect your bullets. Also, these creatures do not randomly pop up in the game, they are only encountered where it seems appropriate. For a portion of the game you are in some crypts that the Nazis are excavating, these crypts are crawling with undead. A short time later you will find yourself in a city, no undead inhabit those areas, just Nazis.

To sum it all up, this game is basically Wolfenstein 3D with much better graphics. The gameplay and story are old rehashes of what has been done countless times before but if you're looking for some good Nazi killing fun this is a great game. If you want something with a good story and innovative gameplay I would recommend No One Lives Forever or Aliens vs. Predator 2.

Summary: Great Game! 'Bout time for a sequel.
Review: This game is awesome! I can't beleive how great it is! I waited since I beat the first on in '91 for another to come. Now... a decade later... it's finally here! Awesome game. Totally love it! Try not to use cheats. The undead like to sneak up on you, and they are kinda scary (eeeeeeeeee!). (... )But, it is an awesome game. Wonderful, exciting, marvelous. Buy it. And keep AWAY from those chick guards.

Summary: The Jury's Out
Review: Beautiful graphics and atmosphere. I started playing the game on the easiest setting because I wanted to get a feel for the gameplay. It seemed too easy so I switched to the next hardest level and did OK until I got into the catacombs. I got down to two health points and at that level all you're gonna do is die (which I did frequently). So I went back to the beginning and started over at the easiest setting. Let me say that the only difference between the two settings is the amount of ammo and health available. There are just as many enemies and they are just as hard to defeat. The game can be very tough at times.

The game also has some bugs I noticed (at least on my system). On the save game feature I must return to the main menu in order to go to a previously saved game, or strange things happen. For instance, I was in the church battling Helga's elite guards, and those babes are tough. I got to saving the game after killing two so as not to have to repeat it, and after one save the game allowed me to proceed as if invisible to the guards. So I just walked up to each and knifed them one at a time and finished the level that way. There were so many of them I might not have been able to beat them anyhow. They never noticed or hurt me.

Next I went to the level of the demolished church, and the game seemed to take a left turn into the bizarre. There was a giant monster that looked like an ape, along with some kind of flying ghouls which killed me every time (on the easiest setting, remember). Now I am thinking this game is getting a little too weird for my tastes, and I might just give it to the kid across the street, because it seems to be right on target for a fifteen year-old mind.

But I am very impressed with the graphics and the immersive atmosphere. They've done a really good job on that.

Summary: Frighteningly realistic graphics, very frightening
Review: Return to Castle Wolfestein is a fast paced, exciting, and furiously fun 1st person shooter. Most people understand what to expect, but I wasn't ready for how frightening and scary these undead people are in this castle. They jump out when your least expecting it, terrifying you and causing you to attempt to dash away, something not terribly easy in piss soaked pants.

I began like any young stud packing heat, I wasn't the least bit afraid of some ghoulies and creatures. After all, I have a large gun right? Well that had all changed within the time frame of 5 minutes. After puking on myself out of fear a few times, I found the nearest empty room and hid under whatever object I could find. I don't think the phrase 'crying like a little girl' quite conveys how frightened I was after getting lost in this hell hole. Some people say that the living dead can smell your fear, thats nonsense... they smell the poop in your pants and listen for your hysterical sobbing.

The graphics and sound in the game are great, no doubt. I'm just thankful you can't smell it as well.
