Rating: Summary: I'm Shocked Review: I'm surprised to find good reviews for Operation Flashpoint. I played the demo and just from the game play this game stinked. Maybe I'm just spoiled with Half-Life's Counter Strike and SWAT 3, but the game play was very poor. Graphics weren't anything special. Kind of reminded me of Delta Force, which is a fun, but outdated first person shooter. Maybe you'll like this game. I recommend getting the demo first to test the game play. After all what good is a game if it has good graphics and bad game play? But this game in my opinion had neither. ;D
Rating: Summary: Awesome game, but takes some patience Review: Very good game. Takes some patience, don't play it like it is Quake or Unreal Tournament. It is pretty hard you get killed a lot. I was about to throw this game away because on like the 5th or 6th mission, you are on your own in the forest, and I kept getting killed, then I finally got past that stage, and it made me better, and the game is flowing now. Graphics are really good, not great, but the game is sooo good at making you feel there. I was sweating, and my heart was pounding. Very engrossing. The only problem is the ability to save only once per mission, you can get around that by deleting the save file. (gamespot has this on the hints) Overall, I would recommend this for anyone. Especially with the current events, I like to pretend that the Russians are .... I hear that there is a vietnam mod being worked on, as well as an add on for playing as the russians. BUY THIS GAME
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS GAME, but be careful of requirements! Review: Hi all, I have had this game since July, 2001, when it was first released in Europe, and was so excited about it that while I was on vacation there I got it before anyone else in the USA, and I am still NOT sick with it.It looks SO real, every little detail, and it is a whole new kind of game. Other shooters are all cramped inside a limited area, buildings, arenas. This game, you can be walking for miles and miles and take you half an hour maybe more to reach the other side of the map on foot. You get many many vehicles to drive and have fun with. Tanks, Hummer, all kinds of Helicopters, Jets, Jeep, Civilian Cars, etc... Then when you are in the Jeep say, then you can look around if you arent the driver and see the other passengers sitting there, see your own feet if you look down, and you can look out of the windows and see the landscape pass by. You have around 25 different kinds of weapons (also very close to detail, both Russian and American guns) - m16, ak74, ak47, grenade launcher, Anti Air, LAW launcher for tanks, Sniper gun, list keeps going... In the mission editor, you can even change the weather and time of day. You can have it dark and stormy night with lighting stricking. You actually can see the flashes of lighting. Or the opposite, you can have a blue sky day with the sun high, birds churping (and yes, you can hear them) Very nice music too! I actually have the songs sometimes stuck in my head. Also, in the missions that the game comes with and also missions you make (with some trouble) you can have the soldiers talk and their mouths move with their talking in either English or Russian. Though...... One bad thing about this game that I would like to say is that the mission editor is a bit of a pain. Not the easiest of things. Also, internet is very slow unless you have Cable, unlike me with 56K. I still want to give it a five because all the pros to the game greatly beat the cons. NOTE; Be careful of the requirements!! You need a good videocard, not an Intel which I had, need NVidia, Matrox, 3DFx, ATi, S3, PowerVR, or 3D labs. Trust me! I had a Intel card and had to replace it for a NVidia one because it wasnt supported by the game. Pentium II, 400, 64 MB Ram also as the lowest settings, Highly recommend that you check out the requirements before buying.
Rating: Summary: Ambitious. It does exactly what it sets out to do. Review: This isn't doom. You're not Rambo. You're a simple soldier, and getting shot HURTS. The year is 1997. The place, Bohemia interactive headquarters. Country, Czech republic. A small team of developers decide to create a war simulation. Four years later the game is released. And it rocks. This game portrays what war is all about. Killing. Killing and destroying, going back to the most primitive of human instincts. And this game does exactly that. It makes you laugh, it makes you shout with anger, it makes you freeze with fear. It's a simulation alright. You have to save sparingly, for if it was not for the one-save-per-mission, the flow of the game would be seriously hindered and Death would stop being such a huge deal (killing the atmosphere) I also have to give my compliments to the developers who are still creating new units and free downloadable add-ons (such as a Su-24, or even a grenade launcher) and new missions. They're also listening to the suggestions in their official message boards I'm waiting it's add-on "Red Hammer" with the Soviet campaign.
Rating: Summary: The Best War Simulation Ever Review: Operation Flashpoint is by far the best war game simulation I've ever played. The demo version contains enough flexibility to ensure total control of character performance, and the game play is so realistic that I had to order the playable version as I anticipate the on-line challenge and the option of using the mission editor.
Rating: Summary: Not Rainbow 6 Review: I pre-ordered this game because of the European recommendations comparing this game to Rainbow Six. As Lyod Benson said to Dan Quayle "I know Rainbow Six, and you are no Rainbow Six". If I had to rate this game I'd call it Rainbow 2! The Graphics were very square and herky jerky. Even though there is a mouse sensitivity adjustment, it's still very clunky, and it doesn't have the fluidity it should.
Rating: Summary: Buy It Or Face an Empty Life Review: This game is perfect in every respect. Anyone who says it stumbles in vehicle gameplay is completely wrong. I have enjoyed this game and its playability is enhanced by the editor and the other customizability features.
Rating: Summary: It's more than a shoot 'em up game Review: OFP is best described by showing the audience what are some of the missions like: 1. There's the standard you-and-a-bunch-of-army storming into a village and capping the Russians 2. In one mission, you are suppose place mines on the road, hide and destroy the incoming Russians tanks. 3. In another mission, you have to ensure the civilian is safe by driving a truck to safety. 4. You disguised as a farmer and pass through roadblocks 5. Scaling the hills to reach a guerillas' hideout way up on the peak of the mountain, while avoiding bullets at the same time 6. Piloting a helicopter to take out ground tanks/trucks 7. Be a machine gunner and take out Russians coming onshore from the beach ala the popular Omaha beach scenarios 8. LOTS and LOTS more. Get the game!
Rating: Summary: Way too Buggy Review: I was quite excited about Operation Flashpoint after playing the demo. It seemed the most realistic portrayl of warfare yet on the PC HOWEVER, after a failed installation I went to various websites attempting to find a soloution. I read through 30 pages of people expressing problems with the patches, installation, textures and various other features of the game. I am sure that for those of you who can install it, it will be nice however, check out the...to see what the people who have problems are saying. I would not recommend a purchase of this game until you can be certain the bugs are fixed.
Rating: Summary: Much Better Than I thought Review: I have to admit, I bought this game because I wanted to play a warsim and really thought that Silent Hunter II would never come out. However, after I bought flashpoint, and a few nights of play, I have become fascinated by it. I expected another Rainbow Six, or Delta Force, but no, this game is much better if you are a player in search of a serious game. None of this sit with your sniper rile like DF, and kill everybody. Or R6 when you run in and have a quick massive firefight. In OFP you have to keep your head about you at all times in a full world experience, Hinds, T-80s, Spetnaz, are all out to get you. If you live long enough as a PFC, you end up commanding your own squad- and keeping them alive, on top of yourself, is quite a challange, espically win the Soviets roll in some tanks! There are some drawbacks- the pixels on the bushes in the terrain is poor. Also, the control and command in the sections where you drive a tank is not so hot, and the game probably could have done without the senarios when you fly the Apache. The big pluses- This game has no BS like in DF, where you can sit with your M16 and grenade launcher and take out a town. Here the Russians will come out and find you, and quick. The AI is great. Also, sitting in the bush with your M-16 trying to snipe guys who are shooting back- and you know they can see your muzzle flashes like you can see yours, can be really unnerving! (and isn't that what combat sims are for?) Get this game- I can't speak highly enough of it. It really was a lot cooler than I thought it would be. Also, check the sites about it. All kinds of neat mods are already being created, as well as new versions that will take place in WWI, WWII, and Vietnam with the game's great software engine. Thanks
